Hi Folks

I have question about runes/sigils that extracted from drops – is there any way to use them in crafting?
I know that I can craft runes/sigils (those that has patch looking icon) and use them in crafting, but there is runes/sigils that comes from drops (those has icon that looks like coin) and I cant find any use for them (except obvious – put into armor/weapon that has free slot, but that that does not seems to be very productive usage).
So is there any way to use runes/sigils that came from drops in crafting? Or there is any other productive way to use them?

puts on Captain Obvious hat

Any rune or sigil that is a crafting ingredient can be used for crafting. It doesn’t matter where they are from. You can tell if it is a crafting ingredient by looking at the tooltip. The tooltip will indicate which crafting discipline it can be used with if it is a crafting ingredient.

usually those runes are not crafting ingridients. what you can do with them is:

1 put 4 in the mystic forge for a chance to get 1 of 1 tier higher level (4 green for a chance of 1 yellow or 4 yellow for a chance of 1 orange).
most people do that because if you are lucky you can get some very expensive rune that you need or may want to sell in the trading post.
2 sell them (either to vendor if they are cheap on tp or in tp if they have some value)
3 use them if you need in armors or weapons.
4 search the wiki for specific mystic forge recipe where you can use them and turn them in something else entirely (ie rune of the nights are often used in combination with other ingridients to craft weapons with thematic skins)

Thank You Amadan! Those two options was exactly what I was looking for

Careful! Nomenclature malfunction here.

The “patch” things you mention are “Inscriptions” and “Insignias” for Weapons and Armors. They define the Prefix of the Item. They define the Item and Stats that cannot be changed once crafted

The “coins” you are mentioning are “Runes” and “Sigils” for Weapons. They define the flavour bonus effect of the weapon a.k.a. the Suffix. They can be overwritten with new runes/sigils (or in very rare cases extracted)

So “Political correct” Tin Foil Hat “of the obvious” would drop either an “Political Correct” Insignia or a “of the obvious” Rune, while salvaging the “Fluffy” Banhammer “of Stupidity” would drop either a “Fluffy Inscription” or a “of Stupidity” Sigil.
