for player who craft dual same legendary
No compensation has been announced. You have two full Legendary weapons, rather than one weapon and a skin, that others may have.
We can’t know what might happen months or years down the road in-game. It would be restrictive to never do anything, just in case it might change in the future.
IMHO they should just give you a token to trade one of your legendaries in for any other one. They’re all roughly the same amount of work to build.
I don’t have dual legendaries, or dual of any skin but the problem seems to be going over my head. Legendaries are more than just a skin, and that’s all they can transmute over.
Being able to apply a skin doesn’t change the fact that you still have two account bound weapons that can change stats on the fly.
Wanting to exchange 1 legendary for another is a different problem.
Currently, you have X legendary weapons and after the feature patch you will have X legendary weapons.

As has already been mentioned. Legendary’s are more than just the skin, they’re also the only weapon you can change the stats of on the fly without the need to transmute them.
When you grab a legendary skin from your wardrobe, the legendary stats will not come with it.
People don’t build legendaries for the stats though. If that were the case they’d just build ascended gear with the stats they want instead. They spent all that time because they wanted the skin. This change cheapens their effort.
I agree with the idea, that they should give tokens to whoever has two legendary of the same kinda. It would certainly resolve a lot of issues.
You have 2 legendary weapons (that can switch stats on the fly).
Why would anyone compensate you when you can now apply the Legendary skin to any other of your character’s weapons (of the same type)?
They are ADDING a feature. Nothing will be taken away.

I don’t have dual legendaries, or dual of any skin but the problem seems to be going over my head. Legendaries are more than just a skin, and that’s all they can transmute over.
If you can compare legendaries to a real life product, it’s like an LV bag. Yeah sure, it’s probably sligggggghtttly better than a normal leather bag, but once you remove the fancy skin, it’s little more than an average Ascended.
Yeah, you can change stats but there’s really only a few sets of stats which you would use with any particular weapon anyways, and you can’t change the sigil at will, meaning that it doesn’t quite work out because the sigil’s rather important in most builds, so you need a new weapon anyways.
Plus, when I crafted my Ascended stuff, you can craft up to 40 Ascended weapons at the price of a legendary.
In short, the skin isnt everything, but it’s almost everything.
You realize that the people that can “devalue” your Legendary by skinning another weapon as a Legendary actually obtained a Legendary….right?
Your exclusive “club” is crashing their own party. Don’t expect a lot of sympathy from us “have nots”.

Hind sight is 20/20. Whether you made your duplicate for its skin or for its features, it was a choice that you made. No one forced you to do it.
Beyond that, an actual legendary is still better than a skin, and always will be. I’m sure people prefer to have the actual Ferrari, rather than just a measly picture of one.

As someone who does not have two legendaries, I completely sympathise with those who do. I don’t understand why so many people are throwing out the “you now have two stat switching items” and the lack of sympathy. It really sucks that people spent thousands of gold and countless hours to get legendaries that had most of their value taken away by a change in the rules of the game.
I love the account locker and I love that legendary skins can be duplicated. But I really think the players with two of the same type deserve a token to get another legendary (or, at least, to have one of them become tradeable).

1. Achieving things, looking back and being proud about achieving those things, and seeing value in what you’ve achieved are a huge part of MMOs. This makes a lot of people feel lose that value and feel like they wasted their time.
2. I’ve never said there’s going to be a mass influx of SR/TL. I actually said in our precious debate that most people won’t be able to pull it off.
But that doesn’t mean the loophole/exploit shouldn’t be closed.
While I do understand why the “2 legendary” people are complaining, I don’t see why they deserve a refund of any kind.
They aren’t losing anything besides a bit of prestige for players that only crafted 1 legendary.

Lots of people have spent lots of gems on multiple copies of the same gemstore skin or armour. Many people bought multiple copies of Kasmeer’s Staff. Lots of people have also spent lots of gems on transmutation tokens which would not have been needed if the wardrobe system existed in the first place – not to mention the countless hours of farming dungeons, gold, karma, etc for multiple pieces of cosmetics, also the lost cosmetics from transmutations. We’re not going to get our gems back – that either cost real money or a significant amount of gold given the gold/gem ratio. Multiple gem store weapon or armour skins would cost gold equivalent to the cost of making a legendary (if I have all 8 characters and I bought 4 Kasmeer’s staff skins I have 3 extra which is 2,400 gems). The number of such people greatly outnumber the people with 2 legendaries, so those people with 2 legendaries, think about that and stop complaining.
I spent over a thousand hours in PvP and my previous tournaments awarded 5 times less than they do now. I have lost several hundred gold alone as opposed to a new player who came in and played the same amount of hours.
I had to deal with it like everyone else, at least your legendary weapons have more than one function where as PvP players were simply shafted.
In other words, move on an never expect a compensation.

People should expect things to change in MMO’s.
Deciding to go for X build or X item, etc, should be fully aware that at anytime the game may change in such a way that X build or X item is no longer viable or that something else becomes better or more desirable.
So to those who crafted 2 incinerators for the skin of it should neither expect nor demand any compensation for the now redundant time spent. This goes for all items and builds etc.

Many people were clamoring for legendaries to be made account bound as opposed to soulbound. This was likely ANet’s compromise. You can’t have the stats be account bound, but you can have the skin. And you have to equip the item or an item further up the progression from it to get the skin.
At least I haven’t heard anything about legendaries going account bound with this update.

Anet already said players will be able to request refunds for duplicate gem store skins on the 15th. Comparing legendaries to gem store items actually supports refunding of legendaries since “you can open up your wallet and buy one.”

I’m not working towards Meterologicus for the skin so don’t speak for everyone.
They have the best stats in the game and I can change the stats of the weapon at will. Meaning one less thing I have to buy should I choose to change my build.
And since skin does NOT equal the same item, ANet does not have to offer compensation as a PR move. Which all compensation due to game changes are. Voluntary compensation on their part to make a change not as harsh.

Skin does not equal the same item? Honestly it isn’t that hard to look at the average legendary prices over the past month and let people pick a skin of equal or lesser value. They don’t even have to give people a replacement legendary, just a skin for their wardrobe.

Imagine I want to switch between power and condi with my swords. Lets see I like fire and force on my swords for power and agony and torment for my condi.
That’s about 5-6 gold in sigils per weapon swap. If I swap 4 times a day which isn’t uncommon going between wvw and pve. Then I pay 20-24 gold a day on sigils a day just to use those amazing stat swapping legendaries to the same function as some ascended weapons. In a month that would be 600-720 gold. Wow, I could get another precursor!
All you people saying making that extra legendary means nothing now…. Let me show you something that happens all the time in this game…. Starts story time…. Omg my two bolt legendaries suck on my warrior now because my spec got nerfed… oh wait my mes dual sword spec got majorly buffed let me switch the legendary over to them and change the stats, thank god its not ascended or I would have to spend days to make the new stats on the swords I need…. Story over…. Therefor your they would just be ascended with different skins argument holds no bar seeing as they can change stats on the fly as to waiting anywhere from 5-6 days to make another one/ 2 just be happy you have that

And you just leave sigils that are not ideal in that legendary when you swap too I bet. You could make more than enough stat combos for many different characters and builds for less than a legendary and have an ideal sigil for each one. Plus ascended are account bound too…
After you hit 500 crafting you can make a weapon for about 50g lets pretend 100g for the sake of ensuring we don’t underestimate the cost and we’ll assume 500g to get to 500 crafting, which is obviously too much. Bolt is valued around 3,000g. That means we could make 25 ascended weapons for the cost of bolt and they could each have a sigil specific for their stats.
How many stat combos are there again?

That’s exactly what I do because I can’t afford it. If I had made ascended weapons for the two different stats I use I would have saved thousands of gold and never had to worry about my weapons being less functional and now I could have a second legendary skin on my more functional ascended weapons.
Whether or not having ideal sigils for pve makes or breaks anything is irrelevent. The point is that ascended weapons are better functionally and cheaper than legendaries. This is a counter argument to people using the stat swapping and ascended level of the weapon as a basis for no compensation. The skin is worth far more than opponents of compensation are making it out to be and the stat swapping ascended quality is worth far less.

Yes you could but the fact remains you will never have to its QoL and yes ascended are going to be account bound but you can’t change stats on the fly and you would have to 1) buy all the mats which by your estimation is 50g each then by the recipe… oh and then have the obsidian shards.. ectos, skill points dust, ore, fragments, 500 per weapon mind you….. anyway it comes down to… Anet did not make you make two items you did it to yourself, they should not give you a penny back because you did it not them, know that mmos change all the time… that being said im the happy owner of two said bolts and I’m quite happy with the change THANKYOU ANET

not all of ascended has to do with money… hell they could be more rare then legendary considering I could just buy them with rl money… you can’t do that with ascended I still have to play some part of the game… that being said I have two bolts it took me 1 1/2 years to make and still save up a lot of gold I rarly buy anything I need off the ah I go farm for it which is not hard… Anyway im not here to argue but I’m happy with the changes, But if they do something make them unbound and give the option for the person to sell their legendary on the ah but if they equip them at all after the patch account bound them… It was their choice and my choice to make the legendary Anet played no role in it and no I would change sigil if you can’t make the money to change a sigil/ rune set on the fly how did you get your legendary lol also what about the Mystic Forge weapon… infinite light that’s just a skin far better then most legendary weapons I might add and you are not making a fuss about them are you.

I could understand maybe for duals of the claim ticket weapons or gem store skins… but legendary weapons not a chance due to their inherent non-aestetic properties.
All you people saying making that extra legendary means nothing now…. Let me show you something that happens all the time in this game…. Starts story time…. Omg my two bolt legendaries suck on my warrior now because my spec got nerfed… oh wait my mes dual sword spec got majorly buffed let me switch the legendary over to them and change the stats, thank god its not ascended or I would have to spend days to make the new stats on the swords I need…. Story over…. Therefor your they would just be ascended with different skins argument holds no bar seeing as they can change stats on the fly as to waiting anywhere from 5-6 days to make another one/ 2 just be happy you have that
Yes you could but the fact remains you will never have to its QoL and yes ascended are going to be account bound but you can’t change stats on the fly and you would have to 1) buy all the mats which by your estimation is 50g each then by the recipe… oh and then have the obsidian shards.. ectos, skill points dust, ore, fragments, 500 per weapon mind you….. anyway it comes down to… Anet did not make you make two items you did it to yourself, they should not give you a penny back because you did it not them, know that mmos change all the time… that being said im the happy owner of two said bolts and I’m quite happy with the change THANKYOU ANET
And you just leave sigils that are not ideal in that legendary when you swap too I bet. You could make more than enough stat combos for many different characters and builds for less than a legendary and have an ideal sigil for each one. Plus ascended are account bound too…After you hit 500 crafting you can make a weapon for about 50g lets pretend 100g for the sake of ensuring we don’t underestimate the cost and we’ll assume 500g to get to 500 crafting, which is obviously too much. Bolt is valued around 3,000g. That means we could make 25 ascended weapons for the cost of bolt and they could each have a sigil specific for their stats.

anet didn’t owe me ? Are you kidding me ? If Anet said that it will update this system in before . No one will craft two same legendary . The playwe who craft legendary is for the skin , not for the stats . If i craft legendary weapon for stars , why i don’t craft ascended weapon ?
I’m not working towards Meterologicus for the skin so don’t speak for everyone.
They have the best stats in the game and I can change the stats of the weapon at will. Meaning one less thing I have to buy should I choose to change my build.
And since skin does NOT equal the same item, ANet does not have to offer compensation as a PR move. Which all compensation due to game changes are. Voluntary compensation on their part to make a change not as harsh.
Skin does not equal the same item? Honestly it isn’t that hard to look at the average legendary prices over the past month and let people pick a skin of equal or lesser value. They don’t even have to give people a replacement legendary, just a skin for their wardrobe.

Skin does not equal the same thing as the weapon.
But they didn’t put in the work, time, and/or money into that different skin. They chose to put their time and/or money into 2 items that happened to have the same skin. That was their gamble. That the game would not change too quickly and make that choice a bad one. They just happened to lose that gamble.
The gem bought items are a PR gesture since people could have spent real money on the gems to get the extra copies of the skins and dye packs. Legendaries, you do not have to open up your wallet to get them. Yes, you can turn gold into gems, but what’s the conversion rate for that?
