So I put in 4 random rares in the forge last night. Got a green back. How does that work? It wasn’t even a scythe or chainsaw skin. It was some underwater weapon you get from creature drops. It was worth a whole 3 silver on the tp.

What levels were the rares and the green item?

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

In all the time I’ve been forging, I’ve never seen this happen. I’ve seen less than six total reports between reddit and these forums and … I can’t rule out the possibility that the person combined 4 blues or greens for that particular result — I know that I’ve been assembly-line forging and accidental done the wrong combo before.

That doesn’t mean you didn’t encounter a bug; it doesn’t mean you made a mistake — it only means that it seems unlikely that there’s a bug.

Your best bet is to file a support ticket, giving as much info as you can remember about when it happened so that QA can review the logs to see what actually took place.

Alternatively, wait to see if it happens again and (if it does), immediately use the in-game /report function to let ANet know (makes it easier for them to troubleshoot).

I don’t forge that often. I was wondering if the forge might give a level 80 green if someone puts in lower level rares and consider it an upgrade since it’s an increase in level.

There have been reports like this, although it’s usually along the lines of getting something completely unexpected. It’s probably a little data corruption at the source or they programmed a 1 in a million chance to give you any available item for whatever combination you put in.

I’ve seen very few reports and never from someone who was able to do more than provide anecdotal evidence. Obviously, none of us are going to screenshot before/after every forging session, but we need something more than “I’m sure that this happened”.

Every time I’ve had anomalous results, upon reflection, I couldn’t rule out the possibility that I was hasty in choosing the previous four items. For example, I will forge staffs and (separately) greatswords but nothing else. A couple of times I’ve ended up with a trident, which shouldn’t happen according to ZGARF (Zommy’s Generally Accepted Rules of Forging). In each case, it turned out that I might have had one more Staff (or GS) than I thought and could easily have included it by accident.

If you think it’s happened to you, the best thing is to use the in-game /bug reporting tools as soon as possible afterword. If the forge produced anomalous results, that should ensure that ANet’s QA team can find the relevant logs, because your report will be time-stamped.

If there is a bug (one in a million or more common), that’s the only way that they’ll be able to troubleshoot.

I haven’t had rares turn into greens but I have had greens turn into blue from that.

And you’re absolutely, 100% sure that you weren’t also forging any blues at the same time? (As I said above, I sometimes have seen what appeared to be anomalies, but I couldn’t rule out forging stuff I had sitting for my next “forgery” session.)
