Maybe I never paid attention to it before, but I bought another regular fractal capacitor backpiece from the vendor. But, there seems to be no upgrade slot to put in a jewel. Is this normal?

yes this is normal. The Ascended back pieces take into account stat upgrades of a matching Gem/Sigil already.

He is talking about the basic, exotic version. Which, i’m certain, did have an upgrade slot originally.

Nope, the basic exotic one didn’t have an upgade slot. pretty sure it never did. Made it worse than other exotic backpieces (which were way harder to come by when FOTM released).

Made the asended upgrade almost mandatory and a huge upgrade.
