Q:

Creating this topic to discuss and see what players think about it.

Do you think the game balance focus only in spvp (conquest mode) and neglects the other areas of the game? Yes? No? Do you think it is good or bad for the game? Are you happy with that direction?

Is the focus in conquest preventing us from getting new pvp modes like deathmatch, gvg, lord rush, etc…?

Not sure what is preventing Anet from making new PvP modes, but I don’t think it is about the current class balance.

The amount of focus/decision in the beginning on balancing around conquest locks a lot of the direct the mode could develop from. Prime example being Death Match, what would really works for death match isn’t option/composition isn’t something that is likely to be seen in conquest, so death match is excluded from the truly competitive side of the mode. The same would be true for a conquestless capture the flag or anyother mode you could come up with.

Basically making balance changes that would not ‘break’ profession between the possible additional modes would be next to impossible.

Pets have been hidden due to rising Player complaints.

The fact that certain changes in the upcoming Balance Patch won’t even effect PvP would suggest otherwise.

As for new modes: We already have Deathmatch, and we know that they are working on more modes.

I will agree that a majority of balance decisions are based around PvP, Though they do improve and nerf things for the other two modes as well. Just… less often and not as fast as its needed as it is when its happening in PvP

All new game modes would probably be behind a paywall aka expansion. THey need a reason for those 10 PvPers to buy an expansion.

I dunno. Looking over the skill sets offered, i find myself thinking that 1/3 or 2/3 lose purpose once the fight is not over a fixed location (capture point etc).

This because they are oriented towards either putting pressure on someone to leave that location, or help them in staying while being attacked.

The necromancer profession mechanic seems like it got heavily nerfed right before launch, as it was seen as overly good as allowing a necromancer to stay in place when played a certain way (10s cooldown block).

Yes, this as always been the case.

Futhermore, the reason why there is a lack of utility/elite skills and traits is sPvP/esports.

There will never be any awesome balance patches in GW2, giving great new (powerful) skills, just the same tweaking, shaving, tiny buffs and big nerfs. Been that way for 2-3 years since GW2 as been out and its all in Anet’s quest to make spvp a popular esport platform.

Otherwise the ferocity path would not have happen. Ranger and Engineer would still be out of a lot of dungeon runs. Warrior would still be the top profession in dungeon, etc. The game evolved a lot in PvE through game balance.

Does its 50/50, not at all. But I think its normal because PvP always need precision and change over time because unbalance can break your game in PvP faster than it can do in PvE, it need more attention.

Does Anet do it perfectly? Not really, but who do it perfectly? They did a lot of mistake and seperating PvP from PvE on some stuff, but not on other stuff is just weird. This half system make the game fall between two stools. Not being able to bring PvP to an esport level, but still having a lot of weird stuff going on in pve.
