Markets change. Yet bet big and lost. That is the way it works. It isn’t Anet’s fault. Had you wagered the same several months ago you would not have had the same result. Your timing was bad and you paid for it. Sorry for your luck but that is how market speculation works. Sometimes you win based on changes Anet makes, sometimes you lose based on changes they make.

imo, that wasn’t a good price to buy those skins anyway. To make money you buy when cheap and sell when high. Buying at almost 3k gold is not buying when cheap and and increased amount of supply is catastrophic to plans to sell higher. Not only that, the likelihood of those going much higher than so you’ll make a decent profit wasn’t a good one.

You’ll need to either hold on to them for another year or two or use them yourself.

ANet said from the very beginning that BL skins weren’t being permanently removed, that they were going to be rotated back in, they just never said when. Unfortunately for you (and whoever bought Dreamthistle skins recently) today was the day that guillotine dropped.

One the other hand a bunch of people made off like bandits selling their skins for thousands of gold, they’re probably busy buying up the 300g skins to hoard until it goes back up to thousands of gold after Dreamthistle gets rotated out again.

I bought a precursor for just over 800g and a few weeks later they announced precursor crafting would be in HoT and the price dropped to 1/2 that. Even now it’s only 600g. At the lower end I also bought a mini Reef Rider for 15g when it first came out only to see the price drop continually, it’s still one of the cheapest minis.

But it goes the other way too. For example I spent 17g gambling on Consortium chests during the Lost Shores weekend and got a mini karka, which would cost me about 2,000g now.

And knowing the uncertainty didn’t stop me buying one of the gallant weapon skins and storing it to wait for the price to rise before selling. It might not work, I might have been better off waiting for a new set or simply saving my ticket for one I actually like (that could be a long wait however), but it might be the most profitable thing I’ve ever bought.

Prices of those skins were beyond kittened and they were selling very slowly. I`m not sure how you wanted to profit of them even more.. If you buy skin for like 1k it would have to sell for 1200-1300g+ to even see a significant profit for such investment. People who hoarded them already could have made 500+% profits from them. You can say gg to your greed not to update.

I`m glad they are re-released. Now they are at normal price and It`s probably good time to invest some gold in them as they will surely get more expensive once out of merchant.

Very basic rule : do not put too much money in a single market.

That’s how market gambling works. You win some, you lose some. Key is to win more than you lose.

BLTC imitates real life businesses, so that pretty much invalidates your angry post into one of those dumb ones.

So you blame ANet for you own lack of knowledge about economics? I made thousands of gold investing long term (because I seldom play and hate grinding. Never did dungeon in GW2 pretty much).

Like buying ~15000 wintersday mat that was like 40 copper and in 6-8 months selling it for 30 silver.

You got only yourself to blame. I can risk doing that because I actually have master’s degree in economics so i know a bit of this and a bit of that. For people who don;t understand how markets work it’s sure way to lose your gold.

You are not, have not, and never will be guaranteed a profit.

You took a risk (that is what purchasing anything on the TP is, a risk), and that risk didn’t pan out. Right now isn’t a good time to be buying those, they’re already at ludicrous prices and we’re approaching the 3rd anniversary of the game, a time when they traditionally have a sale and maybe bring back BL and gem store stuff.

Also note, you have’t “lost” the money unless you sell them at the reduced prices, it’s entirely possible they’ll go back up after they leave the vendor again. So if you have a little patience you might at least break even.

Bad approach – Never turn a trade into an investment. Have targeted entry and exit points and be disciplined. It’s how you avoid excessive greed and also tying up your capital in losers “hoping they’ll go back up”/“It’s not a loss until I sell”. Far more important in the stock market, but still applicable to BLTC trading.

I’ve bought 5 enameled dyes for myself last couple of weeks.
Noticed last night a very large amount has been bought out now and relisted most of them over twice what they were if not more. I guess this is the sort of investment that pays off but i dont play the market.

I don’t think me or op were playing the tp game. We were trying to get skins we’ve been trying to get a long time. Don’t even try to pretend you wouldn’t be complaining either if it happened to you. Every single person would complain if they’ve been saving and saving for months, then loses all that gold on an item they could of got free.

Unless the OP has a terrible habit of going off on completely unrelated tangets mid-sentence and was actually referring to lottery tickets, he was trying to turn a profit with those skins.

Count yourself lucky that you didn’t make this mistake with real money. Consider this a learning experience and make smarter decisions in the future.

Yeah, in this particular case, it is known for sure that the price will increase later, since this is just a temporary offer, OP will probably not ever recover what he spend, but he’ll be able to reduce his lost for sure soon enough.

Well I hate to say it but that was your decision.

I really feel for the people that had orders out that got completed right after the patch hit without being able to remove their orders due to work. pretty much sucks if you pay 600g for a skin which goes down to 200g 30 minutes later.

You haven’t lost anything. To be honest, you have the skins. If you wait another year or two they’ll once again be worth what you paid. It’s all timing. You can only lose if you paid gold and got nothing. But that’s not what happened.

If you bought the skin to speculate, well, sometimes you speculate on the wrong thing. Your fault, no one else’s. If you bought the skin cause you wanted it, and you managed to save up 1000g to get it, you obviously really wanted it, and you got what you wanted. No one can say when or if any skin will be re-released. We all take that chance. If you didn’t want to pay 1000g for it, you would not have done so.

And before you think I have no empathy, I bought a precursor two days before the announcement of the new way to make precursors. I lost some gold selling it back on the TP. That’s the way it goes. I also could have kept it, and lo and behold, it ended up going over the price I paid for it. So again, I panicked, and I lost the money.

Patience is KEY to investing in anything. Learn from the loss and move on.

Always. I got burned on limited cash shop dyes a while back.
Learn your lesson. Stay out of these markets or get in and quickly get out.

I sympathize even though I don’t think it’s A-Net’s fault. It hurts to lose big money.

I’ve found the weapon skin market to be quite lucrative, but I always go in knowing they could reintroduce skins at any point and that I might either lose money or be sitting on an item for a very long time. I also don’t have the investment capital to lose as big as you have with these, but knowing that the price is unreasonably high for a skin in the game should make investors very hesitant.

Try not to be too discouraged, you’ll make it back. Major shake-ups are coming with HoT, just have to invest in the right items.

One of the reasons I don’t speculate … I’ve attempted on much smaller items before and have gotten burned. If you gamble, expect to lose, celebrate when you win.

Technically, you lost your gold the moment you bought the skins, not when Anet reintroduced the skins.

I cannot imagine what you were expecting when you came here about this, but you certainly haven’t spent enough time on the internet in general if you thought it would be sympathy.

I bet that sucks having supply increase on you when you bought near peak. It’s not a loss until you sell it so it’s prolly best if you hold on to them for the mean time.

The one thing I don’t understand is why the high price point on this skin set. I think it uses the same skin as weapons from the dungeon in Caledon Forest (forgot the name, lol, I haven’t pve in a long time) except that is has a light green glow.

I think the most unique weapons are: aetherblade sword, axe, hammer
Scarlets rifle (the invisible one)

Which mean, that even if Anet did put the skin back into the game, OP probably would had a very hard time selling his skin.

Add the fact that we know that Anet was about to put most BLTC skin in the game until the 3rd anniversary and you just have a terrible investment.

The actual “value” of a skin is how close the buy and sell amounts are. Heck anyone with gold could list a skin at any amount but you get an estimate of its worth by how much people are willing to buy it for.

Perfect examples of these are ghastly grinning shield, chainsaw gs, aetherized hammer, super pistol…
