Arise, opressed of Tyria!
(edited by Moderator)
I would like to ask for an official statement, maybe from Gaile.
The newly introduced horn is not something completely new to the game. We have the two pipe organ’s and the bells. However, in my personal opinion the horn has a much more penetrating sound. With this I mean that people who play it badly can be really really annoying. I am also under the impression that there are allready players who are doing it in such public places, like the bank in lions arch, that I’m under the impression they are doing it with the purpose of being annoying (grieving).
I think everyone will agree that the last category is something we shouldnt have in this game, but I also wonder what Arenanet’s stance is on this. Just recently someone was playing the two highest tones alternating like a sirene or an alarm for 10 minutes in the bank in lion’s arch. Can I report these people (if I actually find them due to the culling there).
Don’t get me wrong. I have played lord of the rings online and I truly enjoyed the concerts often given outside the pony in Bree, so I don’t mind people playing it in a nice way. But people should consider however where to practise and people should consider not to grief people with it.

That thing is so kittening annoying, please give an option to turn it off. Im sure there is other posts about this but something so unbelievably dumb should not take any more of my time than it already has to write this.
Sucks having to turn the volume off on this game just to play it.
The horn sound? As in the “weapon”? I can barely hear it most of the time. When I do, it certainly doesn’t sound like a horn. But it doesn’t make me insane. Some of the character voices get annoying, and I’ve seen many posts on that. (I could outrun a centaur!). But I rarely notice the quiet horn.
Or do you mean something else entirely?
I believe he/she is referring to the new permanent musical instrument obtained through the Gem store.
I would pay Gems for a tool to increase the volume, so that I can hear it clear across LA.
I believe he/she is referring to the new permanent musical instrument obtained through the Gem store.
Ahh… hadn’t seen (or heard) that yet.
But… it’s supposed to bring merriment and a festive atmosphere with it. Are you saying that’s wrong?
I think they should put a half hour -50% on all stats of those in range to hear it. The ultimate GW2 griefer’s weapon! Muahahaha!!!!
Fun for WvW as well. The players with the horns could charge head first into enemy zergs. Oh so much potential.
Please turn them off in WvW.
Had a player follow a commander around for quite some time spamming a single high pitched bell note. Don’t care to hear that happen again.
All they are doing when they spam a single note is griefing. Just turn these things off in WvW.
Coming next on the Gem Store: Ear Plugs!
There will always be immature players who like to use whatever they can to “grief” other players… including non-stop spamming dance invites, loud sounds, and whatever new goodies ANet introduces in the future (that are fun AND can be “abused”).
As has been suggested before:
please fix /block playername to include blocking any instruments said player is using
This goes for the new horn and the Winterday’s bell. There has been and still is a player on my server that stands in LA at the bank and leans on one note on the bell… high pitched and annoying, like a stuck doorbell or worse. He’s been reported several times over the past months, suspended once and yet STILL continues (today) to “grief”.
-Has added “fix /block” to suggestion forum in the past as well as in-game feedback

This has always been a problem with MMO’s.
I used to play a game called SecondLife where players could basically add anything end everything to their characters. There were places in that game where the sheer number of effects, sounds, and distractions was so much that it was virtually unplayable.
Other MMO’s such as WoW have also suffered this problem. The difference between say, a Mini for example, and a horn is that you can, for the most part ignore a mini. Sounds on the other hand, can quickly become offensive.
And this is where I struggle with this.
I keep pushing for ANet to sell things in the Gem Store and not put them in RNG boxes. I don’t want players to have to spend stupid amounts of money trying to get a weapon/armour skin, when ANet should just offer the choice to buy it.
However, when it comes to things like this horn, I feel they should only be available through random drops. The reason is that when everyone has the option to buy them, it means that there is no limit to how many can be on screen at once.
Anyway, I think you get what I’m saying. I think in this case, we just need to accept that for the time being, players will play these. Until the novelty wears off and something else comes along, I’m afraid it’s going to be annoying.
Well you’d think they make these so only the player using them could hear them, but nope. Evidently the QA/QC team is sleeping on the job as this is a no brainer and should have been one of the 1st questions asked when developing such an item. “Will this item negatively effect other players?” Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.
Its a shame that so many sounds and effects are great in GW2.
BUT!
The sound is OFF now thanks to these horns. I cant say this loudly enough.
a
>I HATE THEM< *
Please please please make a way to turn these TERRIBLY bad ideas OFF.
LOTRO had the best musical instruments. I wish we had something like that.
Quick fix could be to have the block list stop audible noises from that character/account as well as the current text blocking.
already an option in game.
its called muting the “EFFECTS” sound
This is now Lion’s Arch in GW2:
already an option in game.
its called muting the “EFFECTS” sound
Come on you know better than that. That’s not even remotely acceptable.
I have a few friends who bought the horn so the blocking suggestion isn’t that helpful. At least I ask them not to keep blowing it near me because the sound alone annoys me. Let alone people in Lion’s Arch using them only as vuvuzelas and not a musical instrument.
I enjoyed playing the game with sound on. Now I prefer to listen to the radio instead. All to avoid that horrible trumpet.
One of the reasons it is popular is because of how annoying it is
I have wondered about this as well. The same thing happens with the choir bell. I think a simple fix would be that when you add someone to your blocked list it also mutes any sounds their character produces. I have had people stand at crafting stations and the lions arch bank and just continuously ring the bell at the highest note. Then when they are politely asked to stop they respond with “If you don’t like it, go somewhere else”.
There was also a character that sat at the lions arch bank for hours at a time throwing roses. This went on for days at a time. I just reported them for spamming and botting. They had to have macros set up to keep throwing roses for hours.
The main difference between the bells and the horn is that the bells at worse produce the sound of a windchime. A bit annoying but still doable. The horn can produce very nice music, but some tones are used in traffic horns and sirene’s. The purpose of these is to draw attention (alarm sound). So thats why I’m asking now
Oh, I completely agree with you. It’s just this, now added to the other cosmetic noise makers, I think we need a way to mute the sounds of those players who choose to purposely annoy us.
I recorded an example of said horn trolling right here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_LSPn4nxUs
Maybe this will make Anet change their minds about the item.
I’d really like the sliders for effects to be split into two – your effects and others’ effects. Aside from fixing this issue, they could put my chainswords’ and greatsaw’s sound back to a normal volume. Currently, I have to have the effects slider all the way up to hear the swords/saw which makes the horn much more of a pain to deal bear. I can also hear the footsteps of everyone else in the area like I’m laying on the ground in the middle of a parade.
It’s so freakin annoying, there was one guy by the bank for HOURS in Yaks Bend using that thing, holy crap. I muted GW2 when I was there, so aggravating. Literally, one of the best troll gem store purchases ever -__-’
Thank’s alot Anet, making the game even worse for us. Who was on drugs when they thought of this stupid idea?

I gotta agree. This was a pretty stupid idea :P

Or make it like that stupid piccolo (kitten rare spawn Hearthsinger Forresten…yes, I am bitter about how long it took for it to drop for me, got the Barron’s mount before that srupid trinket lol) from vanilla wow. Make all those in range involuntarily start to /dance (even “enemies” in WvW).

Might I suggest a new item for the gem store.
Introducing…
The Cone of Silence
Skill 1 – Sets down field of silence with range of x for 5 minutes.
Skills 2-5 – Leave it to your imagination.
That being said, this message is in the wrong area as this is not an account issue. Expect it to be either closed, or moved, in the very near future.
Just my two coppers worth,
I’m of the opinion that spamming the horn should fall under the “Spamming” category of the report function. I report people for spamming, anyways, in the vain hope that they get hit with a ban.

I will move to GW2 Discussion, as I think that’s a good place to discussion this.
STOP LIVING IN LIONS ARCH!!!
There’s other cities to congregate and craft in … Guest to other servers if you have to.
sheesh…
Also, if you think these things are bad you shoulda been around for the YETI INVASIONS!
I have to agree with the OP. Whether it is the bell or the horn, some people just stand in populated places and try their best to annoy. There is nothing worse than having my earbuds in and then some player starts up with the bell or horn hitting the same high note over and over and over. It would be great if we could somehow silence them.

I don’t think this was the statement the OP was hoping for Gaile. LOL
Simple solution – /block should mute these cosmetic items.

I so hope this is true. I will give a try later when I login.

Lol, why move it? You could have just given it the response.
What else is to discuss? Yes, it’s annoying as crap. You knew this was going to happen Anet.

Doesn’t work currently – I was just suggesting it

What a tease
if ( horns != mutable ) {
sounds.all = muted;
}
the horns are too much.
fullstop.

And it would be nice to have an on-going policy regarding the griefing that occurs with gemstore toys. At the moment, the choice is either report spamming or an email to support.
Man… you’ve got serious problems…
The difficult thing aside from taking up Anet resources used to do things like monitor reports of botting and verbal abuse is that it would be difficult to prove someone standing by a bank is purposely trying to annoy/grief. Most likely they are, but it would be hard for Anet to tell you can’t play with the toy we sold you here, here, over there, that place over there, and here. Then the people who paid cash/gold for it would be unhappy that they paid for something that they couldn’t use in certain places. Now if they are running around a player all over the map doing then I could see that as more of an offense.
I do agree that an option for players to mute all the musical instruments would be nice but I’m not a game programer so I’m not sure how easy that would be to implement.

You know how it is when children get a new toy.
rata sum has the trading post and bank right next to eachother next to a waypoint in the middle of town. go there
vuvu zaeles (spelling) at a past World Cup was much worse. Plus if it annoys you that bad you can go to other places to do your commerce.
Someone in the other post suggested that if people stand in populated areas and do nothing but spam these items then report them for spamming. Well if Anet intends to sit on their azzes and let us be annoyed then I plan on sending them a shyt ton of spam reports. These people are doing nothing but spamming and annoying other players and when asked to stop they do not so if we can’t do anything about it we will just annoy you Anet.
Ok I was in LA today and yes there was one of those guys spamming the highest note in front of the bank and yes it was annoying as hell and yes it crossed my mind to report him (seriously) and then I thought.. wait a second, what am I doing here if something so little can mess with my feelings in a game.
The item is new and the shine will fade away as will the spammers that are just a little frustrated they can’t play a proper tune.
But, they will learn ànd there will be people annoyed by it.
Only now the trumpeteers payed for their instrument so muting them in towns is a little too much and will cause them to rebel.
So how to give everyone what they want?
Solution:
Keep the sound in all explorables (no brainer really)
Mute the sound in all main cities, BUT (here it comes) except for a stage where they can play their tunes and people can come and listen to them if they want to.
So, no annoying sounds when messing with the crafting or bank etc.
if you miss them just go see em.
Other musicians will gather at the stage stimulating group music and whatnot
Add a vendor that sells flowers and rotten tomatoes, like it?, give em a floral shower. hate it? try to hit them in the face pomodori style!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/griefing-with-the-horns In case the mods wish to merge threads. Doubtful Anet will do anything though.
