guild wars 2 vs. the world of mmo's
Well, the endgame is pretty bad right now, the dungeons are kinda broken in multiple ways.
Luckily they’re fixing all those ways.
There is very little end game, go look at the numerous posts on the inital two pages of this forum. IF your looking for serious pve content youd best look elsewhere.
The game is mind numbingly easy and the most single player anti social MMO i have played.
The no trinity system is a clusterkitten.
Evrything has inflated costs or intends to annoy you so much that you reach for the crdit card and buy gold via the Black lion trading company.
All just my opinion of course.
Most of the end-game failing is due to the fact that the lvl 70-80 Orr areas are very, very broken. Many events are perpetually bugged.
There is a HUGE amount of broken dungeon content as well, which would otherwise be a big end-game focus for players. Even the final boss fight, Zhaitan, is so incredibly bugged that it’s literally a zero-challenge fight. You just hammer on #2 on the keyboard until he dies, while not moving.
So the lack of end-game content is less of a fact that there isn’t content, and more of the fact that most of it is broken to the point that it’s not fun. Hopefuly a lot of that will be fixed this week. If not, I’ve a feeling that many players will start dropping like flies.
I have been searching for a game that captivates me like WoW did when I first logged in back in 2006. So many games promised to be WoW killers and so many have failed for one reason or another. SWTOR should have been my end game….I am a huge Star Wars fan, but it failed me.
I never thought a F2P game would be able to own me, but I have finally found it. I have only just begun this game, but thus far I think I have finally found it. This game rules and I thank you for it.
Having said that…..someone tell me the negative things about this game. I assume it is most likely end game content since it just came out, but is there anything else? End game content can be added and built upon….other than that I am digging this game.
SWTOR Failed beucase is a wow clone. If you want to play Wow.. go to play Wow. GW2 is another thing. The only game who could kill wow, is wow.
The “endgame” (that stupid word that WoW kittens bring to this game) is great.. when is working. Sadly the lvl 70-80 zones are extremly broken, and that is very annoying. Hope with the patch we are receibing tonight all that stuff get fixed.
The only negative things at the current moment would be the bugs in the higher level areas, at around 40ish all of a sudden half of the events and some hearts, a lot of skillpoints are simply bugged.
Everything else people are complaining are generally due to complaining about grind for cosmetic pieces of armour or they wanted a gear grind and they’re confused that they aren’t getting better gear or stats. Or they’re simply complaining that Anet don’t want a feature they really like from other MMORPGs or it’s not the MMORPG they wanted.
If they iron out the bugs, add a few things here and there, change a few values it will be quite nice, eventually the whiners will get tired and migrate to another MMORPG.
For someone who finds dungeons boring as hell after the first couple of runs this game has lots of end game, WvWvW is fun and it is a pleasure to play structured PvP where there is a level playing field.
There are number of bugs that continue to persist. Broken events. Broken skill points. Broken story quests. Some of the fundamental mechanics still require re-balancing and tweaking (condition focused characters). The trade post is still frequently in maintenance. In other words, there are tons of things to complain about. But oddly enough, I’m still enjoying just playing the game, running events, gathering and crafting, fine-tuning my ability to deal with over-agro in Orr, and just wandering in the world. Some of us just like the way the game plays and feels and try not to sweat the bumps in the road.
There’s no other place in the gameverse I’d rather spend my time in than Tyria.

Why do people think WoW was the first MMO? lol
Dungeons are mostly great. Noobs haven’t learned to utilize combo fields and mitigation. Rewards and a few bugs needs to get fixed.
PvP is the best on the market hands down and has pulled me away from dota2. Wvw could have been sold as a separate game.
Pve content is challenging if u engage mobs and events 2-4 levels higher than you.
Events and world bosses must scale better against large groups. That’s my only complaint. Overall best mmo launch to date.

Woah woah, single-player and anti-social? Really? This is a VERY social game, at least on Blackgate it is. People are always just randomly chatting with each other, making new friends, finding people to play with. It’s pretty rare to be doing a dynamic event, for example, without a bunch of other people there, helping each other.
In fact, this is probably the most friendly MMO community out there, it blows my freakin’ mind! I’ve played a lot of MMOs and most are full of kitten bags and idiots, people not wanting anything to do with the people they’re playing with (which is kind of redundant in itself), crap like that. In this game, people help each other just to help each other, no need to ask, no need to offer, it just happens.

Where I said that? I played bazillions of games, tons of genres, a lot of years… and never, NEVER see the word “endgame” in any of them. Only here, with complainers with nothing usefull to say, only “weee.. in wow you have that.. you have this.. The endgame there is fun! i QUIT! etc”.
We don’t need that people
I never thought I f2p game could be this good and have such a reasonable cash shop. Compare it to any other f2p and the difference is surprising. This is a p2p quality game for sure. Infact better than the p2p games I’ve played.
I would say this game is the “killer” of the hundreds of f2p games out there. The cheap factory made f2p games have already seen a substantial decline over the past few years with numerous games shutting down permanently. I would imagine that it’s only going to get worse for them. This is not necessarily a bad thing, it will make future mmorpg developers innovate rather than flooding the market with cheap trash f2p mmos.
As for Gw2 endgame here is my statement:
- Gw2 endgame is sPvP -
After I hit lvl 80 I went into the Heart of the Mists and never left since. This game is the only game that is able to look past all the imaginary roadblock content and give us what we want without having to mindlessly grind perpetually to get there. The only roadblock is needing to press H, clicking the PvP tab and clicking Enter the Heart of the Mists.
Nobody likes to grind dungeons/mobs, it’s boring. In other games it was something you were forced to do in order to get your foot in the door into the PvP scene. Not so in this game.
If that roadblock is removed what’s the point of all those imaginary roadblock content? To be sure Gw2 still has the imaginary roadblock content which are almost like archaic step-children inherited from previous mmos.
Ofcourse there are those who would willingly subject themselves to the roadblocks like a swarm of masochistic 90 year old drivers. But, at one point you will come to realize that you are grinding to get all the shineys to do what? To grind more and get more shineys? The endless cycle or boredom continues.
Bugs are annoying, but I can forgive that given how infantile this game is… Anyone who’s played any MMO will know that they’re generally buggy out the gate.
Saying that this doesn’t have endgame and that I should look elsewhere for endgame is dumb. I think they really have something in this game in the sense that everyone is dps, but does so differently…. and everyone needs to really combo skills and work together. The active dodging is awesome and fun.
Maybe you don’t see that so much in the DE’s because you can just mass the event, but it is more apparent in dungeons. The dungeons are the endgame, the problem is that running the whole thing (or even at all) isn’t necessary in order to get the rewards. This presents a double-edged sword in that there’s an easy path and a hard path that both give you the same outcome…. which some rationalize as the hard path being trivial. I somewhat agree, though I recognize what was trying to be done.
As much as I would love to see a second tier of dungeon armor with better stats (not even that much, just like 10% better stats and AR than the exotics) that’s only obtainable through completing a section or the entire dungeons (whether by actual drop or some special “dungeon cleared” token), i know this goes against the philosophy of GW… even though clearing an entire dungeon isn’t exclusive since the entry fee is the same for all players.

Im glad your server has a good community. I can only comment on my experiences which are different.

Correct!
GW2 is very different from – - – and – - – clones like R – - -. The biggest PvE benefit is the downleveling system so that ALL the content remains viable for your charater ALL the time.
The WvWvW is settling into nothing short of amazing as the server matchups begin to sort themselves out.
I don’t play sPvP at all anymore. Battlegrounds, scenarios, or even arenas, are just not my thing. There’s PLENTY for me to do in GW2 without sPvP.
Nothing is for everyone why come and cry n the forums? If you like – - – then go play – - -. Pretty simple. I lke GW2 so I’ll play it instead of paying for an expansion and another year of monthly fees for a stale 8 year old game that many people will blow through and be complaining about within 72 hours.
Prediction: the same people complaining here will be flaming on the – - – forums within two weeks from today….better there than here, lol.
….other than that I am digging this game.
Then, why hunt for anything negative?
I fail to understand why you’d want people to provide you with reasons to leave the game.

I don’t believe that, during dynamic events majority are there for the xp/Karma and prospect of reward. They never say a word from my personal experiences from 1-80. It’s just a completely unsocial and chaotic aspect of the game.
SPVP, Dungeons and WvW are more or less the same, you will probably get people talking a lot more in WvW I would hardly say it’s social though. It’s more or less someone making fun of someone for suggesting to zerg an area. or just generally someone trying to order people around.
This game is a major disappointment, and I can’t see myself playing it in future, maybe if the changes they implement improve it vastly, I’ll consider looking at the game more but right now, the search goes on for the next MMORPG.
I really wanted GW2 to be the next best MMO, but it’s too mediocre for me, the game doesn’t immerse me enough, the game doesn’t push the boundaries of realism enough. It’s simply not addictive. It’s dulled down so everyone and their granddad can play it. It’s too easily accessible to play classes with a poor skillcap.

We don’t need that people
I don’t know the time or even game of origin, but I do know that the term “endgame” was being used by Everquest players pre-DAoC launch. I agree that it’s an overused term and a tired concept, and we really don’t need it hashed out here yet again.
It’s like a certain segment of the playerbase read the game features, added “and instanced raids” in their imaginations, and are surprised that their preferred max-level content didn’t spring forth from their heads like Minerva and jump into the game.

Maybe instead of searching for the next mmo, you should just stop playing a mmo.
Clearly mmo isnt a genre for you.
I disagree, I enjoy playing the genre. It’s just the companies that make games these days add no innovation to their product. I enjoyed playing WOW 7 years ago.. It’s just the players have moved on, but the game designers haven’t. One of the main reasons why it really gets on my nerves when people constantly defend this game, they are not pushing boundaries of games, they’re settling for mediocrity and hindering it from pushing forward.

I see nothing mediocre about this game. This has got to be the best MMO I’ve played yet, and I’ve played a lot of them. Only one other MMO could hold my attention like this one, and that one closed down some years ago because hackers decided it would be a good idea to release a dupe/account hack and it destroyed the game. Guild Wars 2 is leaps and bounds above all of the other games I’ve tried, and I didn’t even like GW1 lol.
Most mature mmo enthusiasts are disappointed in GW2, from my perspective. The game-play isn’t social, the game-play is socialist-like with a ton of sameness. Players that engage the game are not rewarded to differentiate themselves with an edgier stat or attribute that enables them to stand-out for their achievement amongst their peer palyers, but are rather penalized with a sameness item or gear. As a result, all levels and gear is homogenized across levels to the point where there really ins’t anything rewarding from time-equity or achievement accomplishments from one player to the next, but a fashion-show.
Most probably enjoyed what they played so-far, due to the new car smell, but that is wearing quickly. As mentioned before, PVP, Dungeons and WvW are more or less the same, you will probably get people talking a lot more in WvW, but I would hardly say it’s social or meaningful game-play for anyone with a cooperative or competitive gaming streak.
So, I’d agree that, like TOR, game-play is pretty dulled-down from a perspective that it provides any longevity at all. I enjoyed the single-player cooperative time I’ve spent, but a massively-multiplayer organic player-centric and rewarding experience it is not, for the long-term; just like TOR imho.
I have been searching for a game that captivates me like WoW did when I first logged in back in 2006. So many games promised to be WoW killers and so many have failed for one reason or another. SWTOR should have been my end game….I am a huge Star Wars fan, but it failed me.

SWTOR was pretty amazing, just lacked big time in End Game Content, even with the newly released Ops/Flashpoints. The Storyline questing in that game is still #2 in my books out of all MMO’s I have played. (#1 being Guild Wars 2 atm).
Now I have to correct you on something. Guild Wars 2 is not F2P. I believe you are taking the generalization of games that have no subscription fees as being F2P. You pay for the game, just like with Guild Wars 1. It is not Free.
As for the GW2 vs all other MMOs topic, personally I’m tired of everyone trying to battle it out over their favorite MMO games. All it does is create drama that is not needed, just play the game you like and live a happy life without arguing over nonsense. Every game has their own style, and some games have similarities. That is going to happen all the time, and will continue to happen all the time (until you step out of a specific Genre).
Actualy swtor had more enjoying endgame content at release compared to GW2, because bioware actualy had a real beta where they let people test the dungeons out, so they weren’t broken at release.

you know what ? the bad thing (as others state) is that….there is no endgame:P
and yes we all love GW2 :p and the balls they had to finally break the holy trinity MMOG thing (among many other things:p)
i feel you :p gw2 stole my heart also;)
" When you judge another you do not define them, you define yourself "
Kinda late since discussion went in another way.but to the OP: GW2 is nos F2P is B2P with a cash shop.
Actualy swtor had more enjoying endgame content at release compared to GW2, because bioware actualy had a real beta where they let people test the dungeons out, so they weren’t broken at release.
And not to mention a far more engaging and immersive quest and story system.
I honestly feel that SWTOR was more of a “revolution” than GW2.

BS they are not pushing the boundaries. They obviously are, just not the way you think they need to be pushed and not in ways that appeal to you. Your statement is objectively false.
Don’t bother playing anymore MMOs, just build your own. Show us far your game can “push the boundaries” and still remain economically viable.
Well, the endgame is pretty bad right now, the dungeons are kinda broken in multiple ways.
Luckily they’re fixing all those ways.
As much as I’d like call you and the person below your post a very very bad name for not being intelligent enough to look on the front page.
It’s been said over ten times by now, “Everything is endgame in GW2”.
The everything is endgame in GW2 claim is like taking lipstick and putting it on a pig. Its still a pig. How stupid do you think the playerbase is?
P.S. SWTOR is a richer, more immersive environment than GW2 imo. I’d forgotten how great it is, so I resubbed and am now using the LFG tool to experience all the endgame dungeons I missed the first time around, and the best part is, I actually get to HEAL. Yay! I love my sorc.

So how are they obviously pushing the boundaries in this game, what innovation does this game bring?
From what I see, it brings nothing new. it’s already been done in other MMO’s. Their biggest selling point is removing the trinity, I would hardly even warrant that as innovative, more like tampering with things that shouldn’t be tampered with. And look how it turned out, it’s terrible. you remove the trinity and it’s chaos both PVE and PVP wise.
And why would I create my own game, it’s like telling a music critic to write some better music than the artist he criticizes, or a film critic to make a better film than.. just because I criticize the game, doesn’t mean I want to suddenly become a games designer.
I’m just saying this game is completely lacking and yet again it’s an example of how clever and underhanded game companies are these days, trying to lure in crowds from other MMO’s of all types – the next best MMO – a revolutionary MMO. It’s all dribble.
I’d just like to point out that this game isn’t Free to Play.. It’s BUY to Play. You still have to buy the game for $60, there’s just no subscription fee.
Edit: Sorry, apparently Divinion already pointed this out.
I never thought I f2p game could be this good and have such a reasonable cash shop. Compare it to any other f2p and the difference is surprising. This is a p2p quality game for sure. Infact better than the p2p games I’ve played.

As several other people have poined out GW2 is buy-to-play, not free-to-play. That’s why they can have such a reasonable cash shop. Their main source of income is selling boxes copies of the game, any cash shop sales are a bonus, so they don’t have to focus on forcing players to regularly pay into that cash shop.
Also as far as I’m aware f2p games are a relatively new idea, at least for full-scale MMO’s. I think the wave of games being created, failing, and shutting down is a result of that – a lot of companies see it as both the exciting new thing and a quick and easy way to make money, then they try to rush the development to maximise their profits and do a bad job of it. I’d say hopefully that will change over time, but personally I think f2p is a terrible idea for players so I’d be quite happy to see the entire concept dissapear.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”

Back to standing around in a zone you have nothing to do in and typing LFG when you want to run a dungeon.
