If I may make a random observation, when randomly joining a party for farming purposes, I suddenly become more protective of my team mates even though they are as much strangers to me as everyone else. I find myself standing in fire fields trying to revive someone thinking “Oh no! Not XxxPwns, he’s my friend!*” Kudos to Anet for fostering a psychology of selflessness. Am I alone here ?

I personally don’t feel the comradery in this game as compared to some of the “raiding” MMOs like EQ1, EQ2, AoC, WoW. I mean I will try and rez a guy on my team if I can but it’s not really out of the feeling of “closeness” but more the feeling of “I don’t want to wipe on this thing”. This game to me feels more antisocial than other MMOs since it doesn’t require you to group to level or even get gear where as the other MMOs, you had to group to level up so you would remember people you played with back when you were level 10 or 12 and then you see them and group up again or add to friend lists and do dungeons since dungeons then were much harder. Now you can easily pug any dungeon in GW2 with blue gear on half asleep.

Crafted: Meteorlogicus, Incinerator, Juggernaut, Sunrise, Bifrost, The Dreamer, Kudzu
Am I legendary yet!?

I’m not sure I agree, OP. I think Guild Wars 2 succeeds at getting the community to play together…but I don’t think that’s the same thing as playing as a team.

Sure individuals can rez each other or even buff and heal each other, but team work usually required some kind of coordination and that’s lacking from the open world part of this game.

I do agree when me and my guild go into an instance, that there’s definitely teamwork going on…but in the open world, with strangers, not so much.

It’s a very empty and meaningless sort of teamwork, all it serves is make you want that actual teamplay.

OP got it backwards

the reason why most people doesnt even bother with the combat that ANet designed, and instead all use glass cannon builds is to AVOID teamplay and coordination

ANet might aswell admit they dropped the ball here with so much innovation and give us the trinity back. its obvious their combat design failed to catch up.

Because a team full of five glass cannons cycling reflects, putting up blocks at the crucial moment and pulling mobs so the team can cleave them down isn’t teamplay and coordination at all. No, the team of five randoms who are camping at 1200 range trying to just keep themselves alive is far more coordinated.

They put the trinity back in this game, I’d be done with it. I’ll never play a trinity game again. The trinity doesn’t foster team work. It fosters each person doing their own thing….playing roles separately. DPS guys in a trinity all try to top each other. Healer watches green bars. The tank can have a sandwhich in most games while tanking. The trinity doesn’t promote good game play.

The trinity also doesn’t promote creativity. The no trinity thing, as it stands in Guild Wars is far from perfect, but it’s still a whole lot better than the trinity.

basically what you have here is Unity
all DPS, racing to burn down the mob before it kills them

I’ll take the trinity instead of that, tyvm.

GW2 combat and group dynamics are AWESOME. but 99,999999% dont even bother with it

Sorry this is what you have here, not what I have here. Why? Because my guild is a casual guild and people play what they want. We barely ever have a warrior in our group. Today was the first time in ages. We have pretty much every other profession in profusion. Lots of necros and rangers. Some engies.

So we’re not going into a dungeon trying to figure out the fastest or most efficent way to beat it. We’re taking our characters, who we enjoy playing, into a dungeon to beat the dungeon. It makes dungeons somewhat more challenging, but I promise you, we’re not just beating down bosses as fast as we can.

I do agree many people are. Those are the people who want the trinity back. They can have it.

Yeah, this is actually part of the “buzz” of MMOs in general, it’s one of the things that gets you to fall in love with the genre.

In other MMOs, you tend to get it only while grouped, the fact that you can get it even when not officially grouped and can help each other out in the field, is a plus point for GW2.

I am a necro full cleric, I worth nothing without my buddies… Not every one goes full zerk DPS…
I like to wander in the open world helping people that needs my insane heal and condition cleanse on group event.

I was lvl 43 when I met my friends who were around that lvl too, we teamed up and sticked together and formed a guild, 7months later, we are still together with a 100 men guild that goes sPvP, WvW, dungeons, guild missions…. And we keep chatting on TS as friends and dreamteam.
So yeah, you can lvl up in a group and be very good friend with them in gw2.

Sorry, but you people don’t understand what GW2 is about. Let me explain to you.

GW2 is an extremely deep game, so deep that there’s so many ways to play it. For example, I can play with my characters naked, dodge red circles, and win. It’s an awesome, highly strategical experience. When I get downed, my allies F on my body. Deep teamplaying right there. You can’t beat the excitement of that.

With no AI, with most stats not being needed, with most encounters playing the same, and with boss mechanics that forbid you from using entire builds, you are given the extreme freedom that all mmos can only hope to acchieve. Everything is easy, so you can play the way you want. Genius, dude!

Unfortunately, the community is just toxic and is unwilling to accept the genius of this. Just the other day, this guy with a Defiance mechanic kicked me off because I was using a control build. What!? But you know, good thing they kicked me right at the beginning. This way, I wouldn’t have to deal with their terrible behaviour. So I just left that dungeon, went to the open world, picked a wolf, and started using my cc abilities! It was so fun, that I had to repeat it the whole day. Those 3s of cripple, followed by 3s of immobilize, and then 3s of chill. He couldn’t even come close to me. Did any other mmo on this planet ever gave you this excellent freedom of cc-ing wolfs and rabbits, and watching them take forever until they get close to you? No, but GW2 does it! GW2 is the game for me! It’s casual, man! You just can’t understand it. I can play the game the way I want, and I’m actually having fun doing so. Unlike those guys with Defiant mechanics, with condition caps, with slow dodgeable attacks that hit so hard that most defensive stats are useless. Toxic community.

Teamplaying especially shines in the open world, but wow diehard fans just can’t see it. After spending 3 minutes ccing my wolf – because that’s how I WANT to play this game, a warrior just passed by, swinged his sword, and went on. Deep strategy, dude! Did you see my teamplay? It was awesome. If I hadn’t cc that wolf, that warrior wouldn’t be able to reach him to kill him off.

And guess what? We both won a lot with this. Not loot I mean, because he got something and I didn’t. No, that’s just a materialistic reward, it doesn’t matters. The experience, the journey, was its own reward. We had to work together, survive together, in this exciting world of Tyria. What an adventure.

Hmmm not sure if sarcasm or he is very high. Ccing a wolf for 3 minute usually let you loot it … But it shows that you are very wicked, why would you bully a wolf ? He just wanted to feed his family with your flesh, why do you bully him?

People don’t tend to like running dungeons with leeches.

Thanks for calling me a leech. And anyway I was just zerging around in Cursed Shore.

And are you seriously advocating flaming because someone doesn’t give in and decides to try out a different stat build? That’s ridiculous.

If you applied for an optimised group then you are just jerking around, if not, they just forgot to mention it to you and you are being a jerk now.
Most group take every one without even bothering to ask you how you play since they will deal with it. They would kick you on 4 main reason : you are just a decorational flower and do absolutely nothing productive ; you don’t tell that you never did it causing several wipe, but you keep silent and refuse to read what they wrote ; their guild master or a female guild member just “asked” them to kick you so he/she can join ; you are a total jerk.

@DiogoSilva : i think you forgot the essential, “mini-games teamplay”. I think they should add xbox360 controller compatibility with the game and split screen, so we could enjoy it’s party games for what it’s worth with our friends/family on a single screen… awesome! “Throw the barrel, throw the barrel dude, i see an open!” That would make it the perfect revolutionary MMO focused on cooperation.
