gw2 is becoming sadistically ungreebly
I agree with everything except number 2.
I LOVE jumping puzzles, they’re one of my favorite things in the game (even if they are frustrating due to the camera, sometimes). And they’re not mandatory at all.
How are jumping puzzles required? And Legendaries are suppose to be a grind. DR shouldn’t affect kills on players in WvW. I agree with you on Fractals. At least 10hrs to get to level 10 to get your first ring, at least 20hrs to get Gift of Ascension, RNG essences. Its dumb

I’d agree with you regarding the optional part before this patch. The fractals (the living statue one in particular) requires some ability to do these puzzles (admittedly it isn’t that hard but it is still there). This is coming from someone who likes these puzzles. But I can see how some people would be annoyed by this.

Umm, no…? There isn’t any aspect of jumping puzzle in the fractals. Walking small planks and avoiding air blast =/= jump puzzle.
There are many beefs I have with the game at present that make this game fall into a ‘bad joke’ among mmo’s realm;
1. Diminishing returns; play in a zone for more than 1 hour and drop rates there become greys. Leave the game for an hour come back and get good drops again. This also applies to WvW; what the ? If this was a mechanic to punish bots, it also punishes regular players too.
2. Jumping puzzles; whoever thought of making this a mandatory mechanic was a sadistic soul; getting their jollies off watching us FAIL over and over and over again.
3. Just to add another little sadistic kick to this; MAKE HALF MY SKILLS THAT ARE WORTH HAVING CAUSE ME TO LEAP OFF OF PLATFORMS IM FIGHTING ON!!! Dodge the mob attacking you? Over you go! Bottom of the cliff for you!
4. Putting nodes in impossible to reach places; a lone farmer vs 50 mobs in the node areas. This further reinforces the idea that the staff must not like gamers.
5. Fractals are a grindfest the likes of which we have not seen since EverQuest 1.
6. Add in the fact that IF 1 person happens to drop from your group during a fractal… you CANNOT get another person to come, but instead must finish AS IS… or start over.
If you play mmo groups for any amount of time; eventually someone will disconnect. Whether it is by their choice or not; the group should not have to suffer!
7. Legendaries; the grind from beyond.
This entire scenario is forcing a sickening grind on us, but then adding in diminishing returns = a game which is unreasonably sadistic to the point of disgust.
OK, I agree that there are issues with GW2. I have even cancelled 1 account and am preparing to cancel the other, but I will comment on your issues. I also understand that you most likely will flame me for them but anyway, I don’t care.
1. You understand this was added to help combat the bots. I am not saying it works 100%, but as you have discovered leave the zone and come back later. If you are talking about the high-end zones there is more then one of those, so you can move around.
2. Jumping puzzles are not mandatory. You do not have to do them. If you wish to get the achievements from them the yes you have to do them otherwise just skip them.
3. This is part of hate to say it, learning to play. If you know you are on a platform with little room then you must adapt. Don’t use your dodge, don’t use skills that cause you to be knocked back.
4. Besides Orr I haven’t seen any nodes that have a lot of mobs surrounding them. Even in Orr there usually isn’t more then 2 or 3 mobs near the node, so not sure what you are talking about.
5. Wont comment on this one, haven’t played them and wont play them.
6. Again I haven’t played this or any dungeon for that matter, don’t like them, so I have no comment.
7. While I agree that legandaries are a pain in the backside to get and I do think that they should change the way they are obtained or give us another way to get them (maybe a long quest chain that has 15-20 steps in it and maybe even require help with it). Anyway the method was put in to keep us busy for months, unfortunately some people found ways to get them faster then Anet planned and now we have the start of the gear treadmill.
Anyway, flame me or not. Doesn’t really matter. As I said I canceled and got a refund on my 1 account and I am about to get a refund on my other account. My fiancé is doing the same as is the friends that came to this game with us. Hope Anet likes losing money over their decision, but they are the ones who lied and that is a fact.
last time i checked, only one or two of the jumping puzzles are actually mandatory to reach a vista or something. other than that, theyre all pretty optional.
as for 3, defensive cooldowns can work wonders.
There is an awful lot of people talking about falling off ledges in the fractals for there to be no jumping aspect. :p

1. Did not know about that until a farming buddy ask me if i hit DR, agreed with that instead of finding the source of the bot and banning them, they punish the player.
2. Some jump puzzle I find challenging but it is fun and doable. Mad king click tower was worse for me but after beating it, it was easy and fun.
3. Yes I’ve had my fair share of that either with jump puzzle or fighting mob on the platform, either my skill make me jump off the cliff/platform or that I get knock back by the monster and fall to my death lol.
4. Yes Ori node hunting is a slap in the face.
5. Didn’t even bother to touch the event stuff after the ghost nerf of cursed shore two farming event. But from what I’ve been reading what other player are saying on this forum, so glad I did not participate. Instead I went out and got the christmas tree early.
6. That sounds very agonizing indeed.
7. When I originally looked at the requirement for “the Dreamer” on wiki I was like WTF?!! are you insane! (ranger was my first toon), but then; it make sense if it was so easy to get everyone would be carrying one. So I just bite the bullet and decided I would go for one for my tank and would take my time getting each of the required gift, most of which I work out require money. But the ghost nerf on cursed shore had made that very painful so i gave up long term goal as well as the game all together.
I do still missing playing the game and the cursed farming/socializing while doing so. but the empty mob drop or frequent porous bone, just give me second thoughts.
^____^
This one made me LOL….it’s like the live team decided to ignore every mechanic in the game and just said “it will be so cool if we add this” with no consideration at all on how what they were jamming in would impact the game.
Jumping skills are already needed in a few storyline quests and for completion of the world, because even though they aren’t part of world completion, a couple of vistas cannot be reached without doing a jumping puzzle.
The thing is, I just hate treadmill endgame. So now Anet have started this here I just needed to look at the other parts of the game.
So I resubbed to SWTOR because leveling is more fun there. I like the world better and I can ignore endgame there and still have fun.
In GW2 the storylines are poor, voice acting horrible and I agree with the OP on most of his points. I personally like the jumping puzzles but I for one have fear of heights and need to take my time, so the mad king tower was impossible for me. So, big deal, but I completed the world, did all the jumping puzzles and dungeons are boring now after doing them a few times and alts are boring me cause the leveling got stale already. And I am an altoholic at that, so that is saying something for me.
No, it seems this game is way out of whack and even though I enjoyed completing the world and the jump puzzles, I don’t like where the game is going and leveling alts is just not for me in this game. PvP? sPvP was good in GW1, not here. WvW? Fun from time to time but not a big thing to me.
So yeh, I guess the OP brought out some points which tell me the game is getting more grindy but more to the point less enjoyable.
And it seems that Anet are actively turning people off from most of their content. Still, maybe lots of people like it and enjoy all of this. More power to them. I’ll be elsewhere.
OK wth is “ungreebly”?
I found this quote, color me perplexed.
Everything not at peace, is ungreebly. When there is no greebling, that is the true grobble
Diminishing returns need to go, on that much I agree. It’s a terrible mechanic that does not have any benefit whatsoever for players. You either don’t farm and don’t care, or do farm and get screwed by it.
….What does “ungreebly” mean?….

It sounds like something out of a “Dr. Seus” book to start with, and that quote at the end made it worse LOL

Also an action against botters farming days in the same area

I find them very fun and havent come across one i havent been able to do
Dont dodge on ledges into the depths of hell ?

Kill the mobs and get the node
5. Fractals are a grindfest the likes of which we have not seen since EverQuest 1.
Fractals are a nice addition to guild wars,i really like doing the maps, especially the one with the statue, havent done such an awesome mission in a longtime in any mmo and ..its Free content
6. Add in the fact that IF 1 person happens to drop from your group during a fractal… you CANNOT get another person to come, but instead must finish AS IS… or start over.
This is just a bug, will be resolved, like other bugs
7. Legendaries; the grind from beyond.
Not something you NEED to get,its optional, dont like the grind, then its simple, its not for you and you shouldnt go for it.

And now that we understand what ungreebly is, what the eff is a grobble?
Jumpivistas are ok in small dosses. It was a good idea taken to excess in SWTOR and that has an effect here because right from the start people will dislike them. Was doing the burning wall jumpivista last night and it was pissing me off, partly because of the high spawn rate on mobs. Still, stuck with it and got it done. Was the last one from the 100% region score.
And now that we understand what ungreebly is, what the eff is a grobble?
LOL
Well it is good to see such a lively discussion.
It is unfortunately true that all my points have a point. If they weren’t I wouldnt bother writing them.
For those of you ‘who have no problem’ with jumping puzzles; good for you. Many of us do not; and yes they are required if you ever even hope to get your legendary.
The mood of the community that SHOULD be happy with all these ‘new’ things, is rather “oh god now I HAVE to grind 100’s of hours to get these…”
Let us not forget that if a buddy has a power problem during your fractal… it is press on without him (and die more), or start over.
Nowhere in mmo history has such little care been given to the player. I would say it is ‘a grind’ and nothing more, but it is so much more. It is a royal pain in the grobbles.
So the minority of botters get to screw the rest of the legit farming players in a zone?
If they’re doing such a good job on getting rid of bots they need to get rid of diminishing returns. Why should I bother reporting a bot if I’m going to get screwed with DR anyways… oh don’t come back with the uncle ben speech.

As a thief I had to laugh at this – I totally agree lol
