hall of monuments
The “Hall of Monuments” was designed to reward players that have played Guild Wars 1 for a very long time. The only possible way to gain those points is to buy GW1 and play it to get the points. If you do decide to do this, keep in mind it is going to take an extremely long amount of time to get 50 out of 50 HoM points.
No, there is no way you can simply “buy” access to the Hall of Monuments. That would be cheating GW1 players out of their achievement points and rewards.
Its another “I want the reward for little to no effort” request.
Shoot, someone give me a few pre cursors for just showing up will ya?
ty for the quick response , but i wouldnt buy the less boxier graphic version of guild wars , just to gain 50 pts , but they should also be able to remove the achievement options off a normal guild war 2 account , who have not played guild wars 1 , cos that seems a little harsh on guild wars 2 players , it seems like guild wars are hungry to make money and in the end game , they are pulling people off a better made version of a game onto a less made version , just to have to gain some points , stupid really tbh …
This was not an achievement added to the game after launch of GW2. This was advertised in GW1 well before GW2 launched as 1. An incentive to draw those GW2-hyped people into buying GW1, and 2. To reward long-time GW1 players.
we can buy a stone to go there and there is nothing in there ( dont see the point of that tbh)
The stone is purchasable in case somebody accidentally destroys their own and has no way to get back to HoM. It is also used to bait new players into seeing what they could have if they play GW1. When you think about it that way, it has a very rational “point” indeed.

Are you trying to argue that it is morally wrong for a business to want to make money by promoting their previously successful titles in the same series? :lols:

People who don’t have GW1 can just completely ignore them, I’m really not sure what your problem is? I don’t have GW1 so the HoM points mean nothing to me and I just ignore that section like the Teq section of Bosses…
The Hall of Monuments isn’t about GW2. It’s a reward to loyal customers of GW1, without whom Guild Wars 2 would never have been made.
GW2 isn’t the first game to do something like this, and I personally think it’s a great idea. Though… it does vex me that they made the raccoon mini pet a HoM reward. Raccoons are as common as dirt in Queensdale, and can even be pets in real life, so… how did they become a rare pet? My elementalist needs a pet raccoon… sigh
… but yes, it’s not about GW2. It’s about carrying over from GW1.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Yep, hearing about it actually got me to play gw1 again after putting it down a good long time ago. In a couple of months I was able to grind from 13 or so points to 31 (I just wanted the skins/pets). It brought back a lot of good memories, and I love my firey sword for my warrior and the white raven pet for my ranger.
Also, gw1 is not a “beginner version” of gw2. They are very different games, and I think some things in gw1 better and some things better in gw2.
but they should also be able to remove the achievement options off a normal guild war 2 account
No they shouldn’t, Gw1 veterans worked for it. just because you can’t have it doesn’t mean it should be stricken from other players.
And you can still get it, but you have to put some effort in it.

You need to take another look, it’s FAR more then 50 points for the achievements.
All achievements are listed on the achievements tab, even ones that are no longer available. Since the HOM achievements are still available for all players to get, why should they be removed? You may believe GW1 is an inferior game, but many of us still feel it is a far superior game to GW2 in many ways.
OP,
HOM is not for you. It’s for the people that supported NCSoft previously with the original version of Guild Wars. Yes, they have been playing this franchise for longer than you and ANet decided to transfer their achievements there to here (in a way).
You don’t have to do it now, so mentioning how annoying or pointless it is to do it now makes no sense.

Not only for those that destroyed their own, when the game launched there was a bug on the code that gave the stone so several characters (mine included) that were created during the first day of the headstart didn’t have it on their inventory so they couldn’t go to the HoM at all. They added the stone for sale a couple of days after that.
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
got the the part the op made the comment, " , to go and play a beginner version of guild wars 2" stopped reading. imo at this time there is nothing in gw2 that execeeds some of the difficulty in gw1. I feel gw2 is designed far more for the casual player than gw1 ever was.

I think you’re looking at it backwards. The Hall of Monuments was designed as a way to reward GW1 players who had put a lot of time and effort into that game, but also wanted to come and play GW2, so they didn’t feel like they were throwing away thousands of hours to start from scratch. It’s actually one of the first things that was confirmed to be in the game.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they guessed that some GW2 players would want to do the achievements or get the rewards too, and I think it’s good that people have that option but it’s not what the HoM was designed for so you have to expect it to be more inconvenient that way.
Also if you’re thinking of GW1 as a ‘basic version’ of GW2, or a ‘starter pack’ or whatever I think you’d be very surprised and more than a little confused if you actually played it.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
OP claiming GW1 is a cash grab for GW2.
I can’t even
OP claiming GW1 is a cash grab for GW2.
I can’t even
I admit I laughed pretty hard at that. If anything, GW2 is a cash grab.
I’d actually like to see OP try and get his GW1 points. I anticipate it’d end in him kitten near begging for a GW1 nerf.
Something tells me vanquishing the Desolation, or clearing DoA/Vloxen HM would put him in the ground.
“Beginner version” lol pls

There’s no way I’d welcome this, leave as is. There is an unsaid nod to those players with titles from GW1 when I bump into a fellow achiever because I know what they went through and that they are fellow GW1 players.
This actually brings up a side line question that I’ve had in the back of my mind for a while.
I have 2 GW2 accounts, one linked to my original GW1 account, and all my characters on that account rightly have a HoM stone.
Because the HoM stone (obviously, out of combat) allows one to transport themselves to the HoM, and then return to the exact place they travelled from, it’s a handy facility if you need to take a quick AFK in an unsafe area.
On that basis, is it permissible to buy a HoM stone for characters that do not have a GW1 linked account, to use for the purposes outlined above?
@Midnight
There is no restrictions on getting the portal stone. It and access to the HoM are for everyone. It’s only the rewards that are restricted. If anyone wants to afk there, I can’t imagine a problem with it. If ANet had a problem with it, the portal stones would require a Guild Wars 1 account to get. In fact I imagine ANet likes it. It can stir interest in gw1 and possibly cause sales.

Look at the Heroic Edition of GW2, Anet already gave one skin set that only GW1 players could get to new players that never played GW1. GW1 players earned the rewards and the rewards are Anet way of saying thank you to the GW1 players. New players that never played GW1 shouldn’t ever get access to those rewards (which aren’t that great, just saying).
This is just like how new GW2 players (or GW2 players in general) complaining that high end weapons are to hard to get and should be made easier to get. No one wants to EARN anything and just wants to be GIVEN everything without working for it. They act like when they see a player with a high end weapon that went out and got everything to make it they are also entitled to get it with little or no work.
Incorrect.
The skin you get from the Heroic version is one of the three skins available in the gem-store.
Nothing else.

Fiery Dragon Sword and the light Heritage armor are pretty darn cool.
But, more seriously, you’re mixing up the phrase “legacy armor” with Heritage armor. Heritage is the HoM stuff, and legacy is just a blanket term for the trio of Profane/Krytan/Primeval skins, which are inspired by the same skins from GW1.
/clarification
As a newbie to Guild Wars in general it would have been nice to see what I could get if I take the time to play GW1. As someone who has played many series in gaming I think it is great that people who supported the original game get something in the new one as a thank you for their support.
Guild wars 1 definatly isnt a beginner version. you had to earn your skills to mess around with your builds. gw1 required more than mindless zerging and spamming 1. So Gw2 is actually dumbed down and less complex compared to the original. Sometimes sequels aren’t as great as their predecessors.

That isn’t the case in this series

ugh. necro thread. kill
Though I still think it is quite absurd how Arenanet would not make a way to earn the right to achieve the 50 points required in the actual game instead of having to go back and buy an old game just to acquire rewards in the newer game, just make up an equal hard grindfest in gw2 to appeal for new players not to feel like they are less worthy of arenanets attention. Dont get the big deal with the original gw players having to get special treatment.
oh and btw BUMP

Because us original GW players made it possible to make this game in the first place?
And the fact that they made it clear before release that the items gained in the HoM will be available only via HoM.

If anything, the HoM rewards don’t go far enough. I think anybody who got lvl20 in presearing before vanguard quests should be immediately given a legendary whateverthehelltheywant. That death leveling stuff was probably the most hardcore gaming activity ever.
If you want the HoM rewards then play GW.
Yarr! I be keeping me pirate runes, Matey. Yarr! You’re welcome. Yarr!

Soooo you want the rewards but you don’t want to do the work required to get the rewards. You want it specially tailored to your demands.
Okaaaayyy.
