Hey guys not sure this is the right forum anyways i was wondering since we getting closer to halloween.
i know Anet was keeping the events like in GW1 but can we expect the halloween event in GW2 this year? im asking this cuz there is still alot points bugged in the game that needs to be looked at hope u can give me and maybe some others some clarification
Regards
Somewhere it was mentioned that the Mad King has a voice now (!!!) so I would expect that we’ll see him — and his jokes.
At least, I hope so! I have also seen references to Mad King and Wintersday in my personal story.
@ zhonnika yeah really hope they gonna ad it this coming halloween it was awesome in gw1 xD
and @ premixed i know we are in an virtual world but after playing 7 years of gw1 and the events Anet introduced to the guildwars series its an very nice addon to the game an they officially stated they where busy with the mad king for the halloween event but i was just asking if its still planned cuz there are so many thing of Anet to fix
@Premixed
I understand that concern, but GW2 is already stuffed to the brim with pop-culture references so I don’t see a (already canon lorewise) Halloween event making that any worse. In any case I would be very surprised if nothing happened this halloween.
Well, two months is a long time in game development and I would guess that already prepared most of the halloween stuff before release anyway.
I am pretty sure we will see a halloween event! Looking forward to it!
I think they’ll be bussy fixing accounts :P
I heard they said somewhere there would be a Halloween event, but then again, that was kind of before we saw the scale of broken stuff too.. soo.. yeah, lol.
For those concerned about emersion/holidays that haven’t played the first game, Tyrian holidays have a pretty decent lore flow. Halloween is all about http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Mad_King_Thorn
The undead mad king puts in an appearance once a year, when the seals that bind him to the underworld become weak. I would imagine the GW2 version of the Holiday would once again center around the Underworld spilling over into the rest of the world due to Thorn’s influence.
/cringe. It’s WoW’s headless horseman all over. (I dont know what came first, or if there is reason they chose pumpkin heads). There’s no lore to justify that beyond some contrivance to have a Halloween event.
… except that pumpkins are eveywhere on halloween … ? I don’t get it.
Personally, real world events shouldn’t make their way into a full fledged virtual one. It opens the gate for pop culture references and all sorts of nonsense.
I havn’t actually seen any indication either way officially.
If you haven’t found games and movies/tv series references in GW2, you’re not looking very well.
Why not a scarecrow head? or a vampire, or any of the other things associated with halloween?
But me being Aussie has a big part of my bias in this. Just because it’s celebrated in one part of the world doesn’t mean it should be shoved in my face everykittenyear.
yeah well, there is lots of cool stuff that could be done on halloween. a pumpkin head isn’t the most creative one, admittingly. but giant glowing faces carved in a pumpkin are just kinda cool o.O especially if they tell jokes and kill you.

You must be fun at parties…

Tell Austrailia to get working on making their own MMO so they can celebrate only Aussie flavored holidays in it, then. :P Saying American game developers should stop having fun with a holiday they are familur with just because you don’t personally celebrate it is quite rude.

Guild Wars had this going on since 2005’s Halloween. I’m not sure if WoW did it sooner but I don’t think they were trying to copy it.
The Halloween event has been going on for 7 years and it has some lore relevance behind it, so I would hope that we would see an event in this game as it was a big part of the first game.

For me the “Thanksgiving” episodes in so many TV series are worse
I don’t mind events as long as they just import the general theme/atmosphere. So using Halloween as an excuse to have an increase in undead activity or some witches coven doing stuff I can enjoy. But while I dont necessarily mind “seasonal” cosmetic items, I sure can do without them.

I’ve found some, but it’s nowhere near as “bad” as other games. Here, I don’t feel it detracts from the immersion and such – in a certain “other game”, it felt like I was being beaten over the head with it.
That said, I’m all for holidays. An “IRL” holiday like Christmas already “magically” coincides with the Winter Solstice and most people don’t freak out just because everyone admits that baby Jesus (no matter how you feel about religion) probably wasn’t born on that exact day.
