I have been playing the game since launch. I have what now ammounts to a ton of “Spirit Shards” which is what the skill points were. I have amassed and not spend well over 1500 before they became spirit shards and were awarded for any number of things. I feel cheated as to not be able to unlock chrono-mancer on my 95% map completion mesmer. This somehow seems a bit wrong. I don’t want to grind to get my new content that I have payed for. I would use expletives here to illustrate my frustration as I feel I have earned the right to play some of the new builds I have payed you for and put in 2000 hours of play time doing various fun things that give me xp. Imagine some illustrative rude language for inter-species human on animal husbandry and torturous self harm, the more illustrative and rude the better to describe the feelings that I have about this. the fact that my characters that I have leveled to 80 the old fashioned way do not get any of the new fun stuff without a very long grind is just… not cool. how is there no means of converting spirit shards into hero points? I was not asked if I wanted to not have skill points converted to hero points, I face a situation where I need to grind to try new game play in new situations. Way to stick it to people who repurchased your game for full price and the expansion too. If you treated those who you have known the longest as you treat your players who have been with you the longest, you must live very empty lonely lives.

Listen…listen dulfy.net

Takes about 1-2 hours to unlock each elite spec after you do it once and remember where they are….. Soo, yea I felt the same way you did but dulfy is a massive time saver

Have fun.

I am playing that game where the floor is made out of lava, imma stuck in bed

So….how many hero points do you have on that character?

Do I really want to be part of this? I don’t know.

Are you saying you’re upset that you weren’t able to become a chronomancer unless you went to the HoT content and actually complete the hero points? I’m confused because I can’t understand why anyone would still be on this kitten, the kitten thing has been out since October. Granted, you might have picked up the game recently, I wouldn’t know, but this has already been stated and debated. Plenty of people have been kittening about it since release of this expansion.

You feel cheated because you completed content in the core Tyria but you weren’t rewarded with a HoT rewards, i.e. specializations? What?

If you snip all the fluff out, you’re just asking for an option to convert spirit shards into skill points so that you can avoid this so called "grind"in order to play your new elite spec.

“Very long grind”, wow. “… I don’t want to grind to get my new content that I have paid for…”

Thanks for the laughs. I think I just got baited.

Dude, first, calm down.

You’re calm yet? All right.

Okay, first, if you’ve got 95% completion on Tyria, you should already be able to activate half of the new elite specs, whereas new people who simply level up to 80 without world completion cannot even unlock the spec.

Second, if you got that 1500 skill points before HoT, Anet has actually separated them to Hero Points and Spirit Shards. The skill point you got from leveling UP TO 80 and from skill challenges on map become Hero Points, while the skill points that you got from leveling up BEYOND 80 becomes Spirit Shards.

Unfair? Well, no, let me explain. On vanilla GW2, the skill points you got after 80 CAN ONLY be used to purchase stuff for legendary weapons. There’s no other use for those skill points you’ve hoarded. However, on HoT anet decided to make skill challenge from map completion to be used for specialization (aka Hero Point), while skill point from leveling post-80 keeps staying as a currency for legendary weapons (aka Spirit Shards).

So yeah, those skill points you hoarded can only be used to purchase stuff from vendor on vanilla GW2 , and on HoT those skill points can also only be used to purchase stuff, you lose nothing.

With 95% map completion you probably only need to grab what…6-8 Hero Points in HoT to unlock your elite specialization. You can have it done in 10-20 minutes if you got for the commune HPs.

My Revenant, that just hit 80 on Saturday (she was leveled from the birthday booster, tomes and 5 starter zone levels, so she had zip for map completion), is more than halfway through unlocking her Elite specialization.

I’m casual as all get out and have limited play time lately with Christmas right around the corner, so if I can do it, you’ll breeze through it in no time flat once you set your mind to it. The highest map completion I have on any of my characters is 70%. 3 of them are fully unlocked, this is my last one. Won’t take near as long as you think.

Have fun. I guarantee you’ll be through it before you know it! ,Sorry about those visual nerfs to your chronomancer though!

At 95% completion you should have a good chunk of the points already, go to dulfy and read/watch the guides for the new zones, there’s quite a few you will be able to reach and solo and finish up your points.

The only problem you will run into now is the maps are more empty than they were 2 weeks after release, so some of the group hero points may require some map chat assistance, maybe ferry into one of the event maps and then ask.

Glad I got all of the 9 classes done two weeks in, and glad they dropped it from 400 to 250 points or it would have been a major pain. Once you do them once or twice you’ll get the hang of getting from one to next in a easy map flow and get it done easily.

Another derailing post. ^^
