hidden minimum bid?
I believe that would be market manipulation.

You’re talking about reserve?
Yea it is possible. There are no limits that would prevent you from bidding on the same items that you are selling.
I see what you’re saying, but I don’t think we’d have to worry unless it’s an item that’s extremely rare. If you bid for your own item, someone might come along and sell the exact same thing for your bid. Then you’d be stuck with an extra item and less gold.
Its totally possible and working as intended. This has nothing to do with market manipulation.

It’s possible, but like other people said it’s risky.
In spite of all the people calling it an auction house the TP isn’t like ebay – you can’t put bids in on a specific item (like your copy of Dusk or whatever), simply offer to buy any Dusk anyone in the world is selling for whatever price you put in.
So if while you’re trying to push the price up someone else decides they don’t want as much gold as you do and they sell one directly they mess up your system. Either they sell to you and you’ve lost your gold and are stuck with an extra copy of the item you’re trying to get rid of, or they sell to someone else and you’ve lost a potential buyer.
For TP flippers, especially dealing with fast moving items like crafting mats that might not be too much of a problem, they can sell the extra too, or sell their item to someone else. But if it’s a one-off and especially if it’s a lot of money for you to make/lose you’re probably better off being patient.
Same goes with buying. If you put in a bid and then someone else outbids you don’t rush to change your bid. If they’re honestly just trying to buy the item too then they’ll get theirs and you’ll be back at the top of the queue. If they’re trying to raise the price artificially then they won’t keep doing it indefinitely and when they stop it will go back down.
Unless you need the item/gold ASAP (which in my experience is pretty rare) it’s better to just wait.

I see stuff like this but in reverse all the time….
Say someone puts in a bid of 2s 0c for an item that is selling for 6s 0c. The person then lists one of the items for sale at 2s 1c. After that people try to list their item for sale, and they can either list it for 2s 1c or sell it to the person who bid 2s.
This then allows the original bidder to list all of his item for sale at 6s.
Yes it works but then you have 1 small risk, your “fake” bid be completed before you can sell your item.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

^^ exactly. You run the risk of someone actually selling it to you for your “high” bid. Now you’re out a bunch of money you weren’t planning on spending and have to post yet another item you are already trying to sell. And odds are at this point someone already undercut your original item, so now you also have to undercut your first item, or take it down and repost it, causing you to have wasted that listing fee. Then maybe try the same tactic of jacking up the buy orders, and running the risk of someone selling that item to you again, now you have 3 items you are trying to move, two of which you paid a significantly higher price because you thought you were a genius jacking up the buy orders. There is a good chance you will end up losing money.
