humanoid mobs back pedal and strafe?
Not that I can recall… but I haven’t been there for anything but Claw and map completion for a long long time.
As far as i know, mobs started acting this way after the camera patch. At least that was the soonest i noticed. I still can’t decide if this is intended or just a bug.
So far I’ve only seen the Sons of Svanir do it, and it only seemed to happen to them when you’re attacking them from a distance. So I assume the “moonwalk away from you” thing is some sort of bug.
I can confirm. Definitely notice it in svanir. In wayfarer foothills, dredgehaunt, so might be only affecting them. Which is totally weird. Kinda thought it might be related to taunt bugging out some enemy ai.
Soylent Greenleaf, River Songstress
Gate of Madness
So far I’ve only seen enemies evading attacks with skills. I’ve never seen them use the player’s dodge roll or anything that looks like it without using a skill that simulates it.
I’ve also never seen them walk backwards to keep their distance, they always turned around, walked away and turned back to attack.
I noticed the same thing too (I was there mapping FGS) and at first I thought it was lag, then when I attacked one it stopped strafing and ran towards me, and a couple dodge rolled. It’s very refreshing and adds a nice challenge. Would love to see this extended to many other humanoid enemies, like Flame Legion, Nightmare and Separatists.
I’ve seen this too, I thought I was going crazy at first. The first time it happened a Son of Svanir attacked me while I was working on inventory. I attacked back, knocked down most of its health, and suddenly it started backing away from me like it realized it had bitten off more than it could chew. I thought it was hilarious. Definitely would like to see more involved AI across the game.

Looks also like a bug to me. Especially when you see them from the distance and
some of them walks 3-4 steps forward and then 3-4 back again all the time.
However, some Dredge do that already for longer that they sometime run away
for some steps. Also seperatists i think and maybe bandits .. not sure.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Even if its a bug i hope they keep it
New/Improved AI comming soon…
To my knowledge all humanoid mobs can/do dodgeroll and evade. has been this way at least since my first character facing level 3 bandits in Queensdale 7 months ago
Thanks for the confirmations guys.
Can anyone confirm svanir using “advanced movement tactics” in honor of the waves? If they start strafing around and moving in all sorts of ways there I’m def going back for some of that.

The low level bandits dodging shows that it’s there, but once you get past them, they stop dodging for some reason. Seems kind of backward for starter mobs to dodge and not higher level ones.
ANet may give it to you.
I’ve notice odd behavior from the Son’s of Svanir as well. But not so much during battle. Just watching them from afar, I’ve noticed them walking forward, then backwards (like moonwalking) and making erratic movements. One was chopping on a rock face, I killed him for quest, when he respawned, he was chopping on a tree with his back to it, in effect, just chopping air.
of animals. I love them more than I do most
people. Even solo, I am never alone!”
Glad others noticed this. Was fighting a Son of Svanir the other night and ended up chasing him around while he strafed/moonwalked away from me – he never even tried to hit me.
Wasn’t using any special skills, just attacking. Thoroughly enjoyed the encounter
As was stated above, the low level bandits do the dodging thing, but the higher level ones don’t. The Svanir mobs never used to do the dodging, but now (since the most recent big patches) they do. The fact that they’re dodging, as well as randomly walking backwards for no reason, seems to just point to a weird bug.
