This Idea would introduce 3 things:

  • One new unisex, growing, hairstyle/horn option for every race.
  • A set of tier 4 cultural armour for each race.
  • 5 new crafting materials, one produced by each race.

The growing style:
This could be unlocked in character creation by finding a stylist that travels around core Tyria an offer him/her something he’s looking for (mats or some sort of trophy).

The style is unisex and can be used by both genders.
It has a 50 hrs grow cycle – it grows for 24 hrs to reach “mature/fully grown” state and then stays that way for 36 hrs before it gets cut or falls off (more about this later).
When it gets cut/falls off, it leaves a material on the ground, lootable by u’rself and others around u. What material depends on the race.
The 50 hr cycle is not visible to the player other than by the visual stages of the horn/hair growth.

Charr: gets red deer inspired antlers. They grow in 4 stages over 24 hrs. Then wears the hanging/loosening velvet for 6 hrs and last for the remaining 30 hrs the fully grown velvet free antlers. After that they drop the antlers, leaving lootable “antlers” on the ground. And the cycle starts over. U can’t adjust size of these antlers in character creation, but choose from a few different colors instead (to suit fur color).

Human/norn/asura: they grow hair, fine (human), rough (norn), and silky (asura). It grows in 4 stages over 24 hrs, then it stays proper looking, fully grown for 30 hrs, and the gets “messy” for the last 6 hrs before getting cut an leave a fine, rough, or silky tuft of hair as loot on the ground.

Sylvari: grows leaves in 4 stages over 24 hrs. They stay fully mature for 30 hrs before becoming brown/orange fall leaves for 6 hrs, and then they fall off leaving lootable “sylvari leaves” on the ground.

To prevent AFK farming, the player has to be active at least every 5 minutes for the cycle timer to count.

To unlock the recipes for the t4 cultural armour u simply buy them from the vendor offering cultural armours. This requires a lvl 80 character.

The armours can then be crafted by using the new materials dropping from players using the growing style options. Each material can be refined in one stage.

Pros: new armour skins, new styling options in character creation, a style that feels “alive” for rp’rs, more to do. Ppl get motivated to try all races. Motivation do do content together.

Cons:new programming required for thinsg not existing in game before.

Edited: To clarify.

Some really cool ideas. Don’t think they are easy to implement, at least not the growing mechanism. But maybe Anet could use these ideas and create something similar with the same goal and feeling

Cool idea, i dislike the unisex thing though, just make 2 seperate hairstyles, one more for men, the other more for women, but make both available on each gender.

@ Torzini. Many ppl, in various threads, have asked for deer inspired antlers for charr, to be able to create a true druid look, including myself.

But, the charr aren’t “druids.” Their culture is literally all about the exact opposite: technology, military power, iron, war machines. I understand the desire to create the look, but ANet is far better off not using their limited time/resources on something that would be extremely complex to implement and doesn’t even widely represent the race.

More importantly, antlers on cats = please no.

@ Torzini… My charr is for sure a druid, and I have seen others too… And, charr are not cats, even If they do share some feline features, like the face and some fur patterns, and that’s about it.

Read what I said. A few individuals are druids? Great. That is not what the culture is about.

Why make the charr different and give them horns instead of hair? And would they have both horns and antlers, or what?

I like your unique ideas, but don’t see it implemented. Very complex for little benefit.

Aesthetic options aren’t silly, are options. Antlers for charr have been needed from a long time.

This doesn’t mean antlers should be THE option that get’s the special treatment… although they should be the unique to make sense for a growing-falling mechanism: antlers are the only “horns” that fall and grow periodicaly.

Personally, I don’t like the idea very much. I think it is too much ado for something too specific. I’d prefer just more hairdos, horns and ears to choose from, and more cultural armors too, without any over-specific mechanic asociated.

The reason charr and antlers would get the “special treatment” is because the other races doesn’t have any equivalence to antlers other than hair. Norn and humans do grow beard but that would discriminate the ppl using female characters.
