Q:

today I was thinking “meh MAYBE I’ll delete my engi and start fresh” but I instantly remembered that my infinite harvesting tools were on that character. what happens if you lose infinite tools? Does Anet immediately email them? or you just deleted 3000 gems?

If it was in the character, I would assume it will be gone when you delete it just like you lose your expansion bag slots… Unless its in your bank.

You might be able to file a ticket for the harvesting tools under support at the top. That is your best option for getting your tools back.

If you delete a char with gem store items you can contact support and hope they’ll send it again but there is a warning on the deletion screen that everything on the char will be lost and that deletion is irreversible. So, they might send the item but if it falls outside their rules, then the deletion warning says they might not.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

But what if your cat jumps on your keyboard, accidentally logs into your account, accidentally hits delete, then accidentally types your char’s name, and then hits enter?

Well, there was a post where a guy said his cat accidentally transferred his account to another server by walking on the keyboard at the right time……

I guess it could happen.

Gem store items have a pretty good chance of being replaced, as long as the gems were bought with real money. From previous responses on other threads it seems purchases made with gold bought gems are not something that ANet will usually return to you.

Thn you have bigger problems than that. Remember, that cat would have access to your bank account as well. And there’s no telling what mails it could “accidentally” send to the people on your contact list.

Good luck with your ticket. i remember my Teq wings disappearing from my bank due to a bug and support told me it was against their policy to return items. Im guessing since it was a gems store item you may have more of a chance than i did.

You won’t ever “accidentally” delete a character. But, as others have said, you could submit a ticket to get back your gem store items.

On the basis that prevention is better than cure it’s a good idea to make very sure there’s nothing on your character you want to keep (or even nothing at all) before deleting them.

I’ve made and deleted a lot of characters and what I do is:

  • Move everything from their equipment slots into their inventory. Whether it’s something I want to keep or not. That way I know everything is in one place and I’m less likely to forget things.
  • Condense everything down to the starter backpack and unequip the other bags – if necessary bank or sell items to make space.
  • Go through every item in the inventory 1 at a time and bank, sell, salvage or delete it.
*Double check that I have no items equipped and no other inventory bags.

This way I’ve never accidentally deleted something I wanted to keep.

You’re basically O.O.L. (out of luck). Why? Because there is a confirmation box when deleting a character that states:

Deleting a character will permanently destroy any items in that character’s inventory as well as any character-based unlocks associated with that character.

If you are certain you wish to delete “<Character Name>”, type the name below and click “Delete.”

What that means is that they gave you clear warning that those items on the character would be deleted and you should think good and kitten what is on the character you are deleting prior to deleting it. I’m sorry to say, but chalk this one up as a life-lesson.

do a ticket. You will get your tools back. How i know? Cause thats what a business that is sucessful would do.

Contact Support. No one here can help you.

And do it quickly. There’s a 24 hour grace period on names. It may extend to the rest of the character file.

No, do not contact support. They cannot help you and you’re just taking up a spot in the queue and extending ticket times for those who truly need help. They provide safeguards such as mentioned above so that the player is well educated and well aware of the consequences of deleting a character. Unfortunately they cannot restore items that you’ve purposely deleted (yes, you did purposely delete them when you purposely deleted the character that they were not). I’m sorry, but please don’t waste support’s time. Thank you.

I’d mail support. ArenaNet does want you to be happy with your gaming experience and may be able to help you out.

On the other hand, the data showing that you have the item may be gone.

People who try to make you feel bad about asking for help should be ignored.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

You are wrong. This is a matter for support. I deleted a character that had The Mad kings memory on it(Souldbound) Before the wardrobe was even a thing, i never got the upgraded version. They for sure sent me one though. This is indeed a matter for support. That item had been missing from my account for about a year but they could still see i had it.

They have before sent people items that were in the deleted chars inventory. It does need to be an item of significance and they can’t seem to give items that were rewards for doing content, such as the Shattered wings before there was a wardrobe, but I’ve heard of them sending precursors, harvesting tools etc..

I would say your cat needs be more careful a that is quite a chain of accidents….

BTW, if you are just honest with Support (I deleted my character and FORGOT the perma tool was on them), they will likely replace the item for you (ONLY because it’s a gem store item, BTW)…..can’t hurt to try, but using the term “accident” to describe deleting a character is BS….

There’s no way to accidentally delete a character, so

  • Always unequip everything from the hero panel and
  • Move everything from inventory to the bank (unless it’s soulbound).
  • Double check your inventory bags and save any with 10+ slots (even 8-slot bags are worth 20-25c each).

As others have said, if you do intentionally delete a character, only to realize later they had something of value, contact support, be patient, and, as Grimm says, be honest.

It’ll be hit or miss depending on who you get from Support in cases like this. You can always try just don’t absolutely expect a positive outcome.

From reading past threads I’ve gained the impression that if it’s something that you get as an achievement reward that unlocks from a chest in your hero panel, such as the Shatterer wings, support can’t send them to you. They don’t seem to have access to hero panel type unlocked items. If it’s something an NPC gave you or you bought it, then there is a good chance they can send it to you as it’s a separate item.
