Vote for Ellen Kiel! Down with Waypoint costs! (Especially in labyrinthine cliffs)
A thanks. I totally missed that Ellen was up for election and the wohle part with Gnashblade. Where did you get that from? I played all of the
story instances during Dragonbash and Skypirates but that was never mentioned.
I like what Anet is doing with the world and all but the storytelling
is really lackluster.

I just like roaming and talking to NPCs so i managed to sum up all what we;ve been doing for months

You missed a very short istanced mission in LA where captain Magnus tells Kiel about the election.
Nice summary but could use a little more depth :P
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

Exactly.
G E O, I’ve replied to this in your other post , but to summarise it here, you also need to mention the antagonists and the roles they play.
Ellen Kiel was also around during the events of the karka attack on Lion’s Arch which destroyed the old lighthouse. She organized a Lionguard effort to spearhead into Southsun Cove and establish several minor base camps in an effort to discover how to neutralize the threat.
When it came time to go back there and handle the issue of the refugee camps putting pressure on the Lionguard stationed there, Inspector Kiel was dispatched again and showed some devious problem-solving with understanding why that mess was going on and how to solve it neatly.
The Dragon Bash events were slightly different – she was tasked with a simple relaxing guard post. Then things went wrong and she started calling in favors from adventurers to come look into matters.
I’d like to hear about what Captain Evon Gnashblade did, other than start the Black Lion Trading Company . . . which can stack up against someone proactive and resourceful like Captain Ellen Kiel
I just wanted to write the smallest summary not a novella but thanks for corrections
What’s the story behind the holographic projections? Why were they peppered all over the lands? Where they part of the dragon bash celebration? And if so, why where they created to be so dangerous?
Holographic projectors were created originally by the Asurans who are quite known to make the occasional dangerous device. That’s perfectly in keeping with lore.
The idea was to create practice nodes for people to fight dragon minions, which is what comes out of them. And as Asura often do they went a bit overboard.
After the Sky Pirates were revealed, they would sabotage about half the projectors to summon them instead of creating holograms.
It would be nice if there was some backlog somewhere, maybe even written and compiled by the user-base itself.
So wait… the living story content is temp too? They aren’t just adding new pieces as they go, but removing the old as they go, too?
No way, that can’t be right. That’s too stupid to be right >_> Someone tell me that’s not right

The temporary content IS the living story. That’s the content that’s temporary. lol
How about Ellen Kiel is the main antagonist, setting up all those incidents to boost her popularity in LA, consequently winning the election to crush the masses under her mostly benevolent heel?
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto

That’s… the silliest thing I’ve ever heard in a game -_-’ Revolving , temporary events that come around the same time each year? Sure. Pretty normal. Temporary story that builds on top of previous chapters that are no longer available for new players because they were temporary, too? kitten?
Someone must have gotten really drunk when that idea hit the table.
Where have you been in the last 7 months you and your 27 pages worth of posts, if I may ask?

They don’t really build. They’re only loosely connected for the most part. The idea is to keep a steady stream of new content and removing it before it gets old and boring and no one does it. Keeps the playerbase mostly together moving through new content.
Sounds lousy on paper, works okay so far. Will probably work better with the new development team structure moving forward.
Let me ask you…in games like WoW, how many quests are actually repeatable? Even in Guild Wars 1, most of the content was temporary. You did it once and moved on.

I can understand that, but that’s only looking from my perspective as a player that’s been around since headstart. What about the perspective of a new player. You’re right- in WoW or GW1, if I did something I would never return to it. To me, that old content still hovering around the game was pretty worthless. But what if a new player came along? To him it would be new and shiny and he would run off and do it with excitement and happiness.
My problem isn’t so much with the “Living story is only worth doing once”. That much makes sense. It’s more the “Living story exists for a temporary amount of time only, so only those who were around when it appeared can do it.” >_> If nothing else, that just feels like a waste of developer hours for some reason.
Who is marjory? And if your post sums it all up, I think thats a cheaper quicker easier way to tell the story than these silly updates.

It doesn’t really work that way. Because much of the content is relatively simple. It’s like missing episodes of an old TV show so you never start watching it. You miss very little “grade A content”. The point is this stuff is coming out every two weeks. You’re thinking short term. Imagine a new player a year from now, having all this stuff to do. You’d never catch up. It would feel like a full time job. To many it would feel completely overwhelming.
Sure people who play 24/7 might love it, but it would drive more people off than keep people. After all, that’s why so many people leave other MMOs…they’re just tired of keeping up.
I took a two month break from the game and came back. I was a tad overwhelmed trying to “catch up” with living story and what not. I thought this game was not meant to do that.

I guess it’s just different matters of perspective. For me it IS like a tv show, where if I were to have missed a previous episode then I would be less likely to start. And for me, the idea of having massive amounts of content (even when I can only play 3 hours a day) is really exciting. I want an MMO where I have enough solo and group content to keep my interested hundreds, if not thousands, of hours. So for me, the idea of removing content that was in the game is mind boggling.
I guess I can understand that some folks would look at it and instead of going “Wooo! I’ll never be bored again!” they would say “Aw crap. That’s a lot to do :-\ I quit!”… it’s just hard for me to wrap my head around.

The living story is optional…it was designed that way. Do it if you want.
The game never said it wouldn’t have content. It only said if you take a break you wouldn’t be hopelessly behind everyone else. My guildies have taken 2-3 month breaks and still have no trouble keeping up with the rest of us.

No problem with this: it makes perfect sense.

Was this explained somewhere in-game? (Not trying to be argumentative: I always assumed Anet was just lazy and didn’t bother to come up with one, it’d be nice to know that at least they tried.)
Anyway: why were they dropped in random places all over the world.. why not put practice nodes next to the practice golems in LA, for example? I find this explanation a bit “thin.” On the other hand, I liked that the presents from wintersday, which basically was the same idea, had a nice explanation (as promotional material dropped by Tixx).
My friend just got the game so I decided to log back in after being away since before all this started and I’m completely lost, I get these letters saying vote for me, not knowing anything that’s going on.
I track down the voting area, avoid the lv80 crap going on, see the cutscene, neither candidate will talk to me about anything, I cant find anyone explaining who they are and why i should vote for them, So I figure Ill just vote for the pretty one who wasn’t an kitten to me.
All the content thats been building up in my inbox is apparently now gone, this content is very grindy, and I’ve got 1 day to do it all with a level 15 character. (not to mention that ranger I also have)
It just…
shouldn’t be this hard to have fun, let me play at my own pace, let me do storys, explore, PVP, when I feel like it.
I don’t have a lot of time for gaming, and when i do I don’t want to always play GW2, some weeks I feel like FPS, some weeks an RPG.
I felt like playing an MMO with a freind today, and was met with a brick wall and someones taken out the bottom ladder rungs.

I have to agree with you on this. I took a break from this game but once I came back I was totally lost with this whole living story thing. Can’t even imagine how much I have missed out already. Worst part is that you can’t do the old ones so it’s not really cool for new players either.
pretty sad, the story is so short and meaningless so far. I don’t have a high hope for an interesting ending. Probably another celebration? LOL
