inquest golem mark ii cheese
The problem is learning to melee results in many trips to the nearby waypoint because anyone that values their own silver isn’t going to rez you if you go down where the electrical field pops up. I learned that on my guardian, and now do the event with my elementalist taking off her daggers in favor of a staff. Though I don’t stand where I can’t get hit. I stand just inside his firing range.
The issues are the camera; you can’t see what is going on around you in tight with all the spells flying and effects going off and you are toast if you lose focus for one second and he has a large health pool. Path of least resistance. Now, if they made melee do more damage and make the fight go quicker (risk/reward) you may get more people willing to try and speed the process up. As it stands, the sensible thing to do is attack from range where you can quickly bail if need be.

That is actually one aspect of the golem that they haven’t changed. The scaling still seems slightly messed up. Doing it with <=5 people goes about 3 to 5 times faster than when it scales up even when nobody dies.
So the fastest way to kill it would be to kill it before anyone notice it is up.
There is also another safer location to stand. Already reported with screenshot included using the in game reporting thing and with the exploitable box checked but I don’t think anything has been done about it yet.
As for people attacking it from range, if you have 1200+ what would be the point of attacking closer and putting yourself in danger? Wouldn’t that be the same as griefing? If you die you are contributing to the scaling but not the killing all because of taking unnecessary risk.
The effects mess is also definitely a problem. It is fine to melee when there are only a handful of people but once you get a couple of feedback/timewarp/static fields/wells/etc. it becomes very hard to see the animation that shows when the floor is about to become electrified.
Are you talking about an old update? I’ve been around here for like a month and a half and those electrical fields have always been there.
The original Golem boss wasn’t really fun as melee. You just stood there auto-attacked…
At least this time, you are expected to move around a little, once in a while….and continue auto-attacking.
Ranged users are terrible people making the fight longer than necessary because of their terrible dps.
I don’t know about the other classes, but it’s really simple to melee as a guardian.
Stand your ground + Retreat for the arm slams, or dodge (dodge if soloing, SYG/Retreat if others are nearby, or low on endurance).
Greatsword to pull & whirlwind spawned enemies.
The golem has 3 hitboxes, so you can actually position yourself so that you hit 2 of the hitboxes in one attack.
Also, you have about 2-3 seconds before the electric field downs you from full health, which you can also block via aegis or evade via dodge.

Before your time, Golem had no electrical field.
I solo this boss with my zerk thief, it isn’t hard – learn the mechanics of the boss.
The problem with a lot of the playerbase is that they are lazy as hell, and want the easiest method to do everything and for world bosses that is stacking on one spot and autoattacking. I am glad Anet made it more problematic for those players.
Fun to melee? You mean toggling 1 on auto attack and then alt tabbing to do whatever? It’s actually somewhat fun fight now, at least you have to pay attention or you’ll be dead in no time, the main problem is that there are no phases and fight still monotonous, but it’s much better than before, this fight was a joke prior to update.

Golem alwyas had electric fields but before the update they did like 300 dmg per tick.
I already learned his pattern and adjust to it. And I melee him.

Ah, you’re right (had to look at youtube to remember it…). Most people just stood in the electric field, and everyone just out healed it.
I stand corrected.
