Currently, the preview window is separate from the main character wardrobe and dye system. This results in a less-than-suitable approximation of the control we get in the dye and wardrobe system.

This is a suggestion to merge the preview functionality so that we can preview dyes and properly set channels for the previewed dyes and skins before we decide whether to purchase a dye.

Currently, the preview window does not provide adequate channel support so dying is not able to accurately preview the dye in the setup. This makes it difficult to really determine if I want a dye or not, as I can’t dye each armor piece with the previewed dyes and only must accept the dye applying to all amor pieces in the same channel.

It seems like the features of the dye/wardrobe window could be expanded into the preview window so that proper previewing could be achieved.

I have what I believe is a very simple solution, have all the items unlock while in our home instance. Make our home instances a showroom or store front of sorts. Maybe a vanity type mirror where you can go to activate the feature. This way we can see items live, to run around with them on, and test them. To take it a step further, I wish there was a makeover kit feature in the home instances too. Though again, all this would only be visible while inside that instance. That once you leave the home instance all changes revert back to their previous state. I ask for this because nothing looks exactly as it does in the previews. You have to get the character and items in the environmental lighting to really see what you are getting.

I could definitely get behind some dye preview improvements.

The main annoyance for me is that in order to get a dye into a slot that’s not #1, you have to fill every other slot first. Which means you either have to just repeatedly preview the same dye, then go back and delete it from other channels (so that it reverts to your default dyes that you’re already using in the other slots), or find and preview your own chosen dyes so that they fill those slots.

Being able to drag and drop a dye into a spot without all of that would be a godsend.

Though if they worked it with the actual wardrobe panel somehow (probably in a way similar to minis, where it shows ever possible dye and “locks” the ones you don’t have) that would solve that problem and add even more functionality, so yah, +1 to this suggestion, absolutely.

Yes this this this, I have been thinking his for so long it’s so annoying trying out new looks with the current dye system, I have to go to the trading post to look at dye combos for armors I don’t have yet!

This. By all that is Holy and Good, this so much.

Even if it’d be only a client-side change (so even people in your party invited into your instance couldn’t see your altered appearance), even if it’d only be available through the Gem Store, I’d still be overjoyed to see this sort of thing implemented.

+1 duly and truly earned.

Success! At least for dyes, we now have a preview for dyes in the dye system!

I obviously don’t know if this post triggered the development, but either way, thanks Arena Net!
