anet i want to ask a question? it had been 2 yrs, no new class, no new skill add on existing character. less then 5% map expand. all the update goes to TP item. are you ONLY care about money?

player spend their really money to buy gems thats what the income you most want ?
is this why you keep making those fancy unused item?

making outfit instead of armor used across all class to save labor? by selling 700 gems?
(outline only need 1 design across all, be armor need 3)

is it because china project you have enough income so stop update LS every two week? and no need to start the expansion project?

where is all the promised to the players?

please advise

You know that the only way they could get enough revenue for an expansion is from buying gems. And that’s only if NC soft allows them too. The money from gems does not go to a-net unless something has changed recently. It goes to NC soft who decides what they want to do with it.

So if they need permission for expansion
why Aion updated so quick. new class, new map etc. did NC rater spend money on a old mmorpg then a newer one? or they spend all the money on wildstar?

i though they all independent.

I don’t think Anet ever promised any new classes, skills, or what. They promised a living world and so far, I’d say they have delivered quite well. I believe they also promised no expansions, so… the fact that there isn’t an expansion means they’ve kept their promise.

Most of the regularly added stuff is for the gem store, but that’s really because those are the easiest to make. And correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe there are different teams for making gem store content and LS content.

The pause in the living story probably had more to do with the September Feature Pack then whatever conspiracy you believe it to be.

Consider the following: they probably don’t have a big enough team to pump out content like most mainstream MMOs. They promise they will do things, but they will not tell when it will be worked on.

So in a nutshell, this video will sum it up:

Where are you getting those info from? Could you link them? Cause I don’t recall any of those… If you mean the every 2 weeks for a LS2 update, I already said they probably paused that for the September Feature Pack.

GW1 and GW2 are fundamentally different games. It’s easy to design lots of explorable areas when they are all instanced as compared to a living breathing world in GW2. As for classes and skills, GW1’s system of skills made it more difficult to gain skills and was centered around skill combinations. With the backlash of how the trait system was reworked, I don’t think Anet plans to make the skill system similar to GW1. The current classes in GW2 also have almost all bases covered, so there really isn’t much else to add to those classes that wouldn’t ruin lore or immersion. Your arguments fall short when you take actual context into play.

Well lets brake down what your asking for….

“it had been 2 yrs, no new class, no new skill add on existing character”

GW2 is a game where ever class is viable all the time so this means there is no need for more classes in a way each class in GW2 is a microcosmic of all class types in rpg but with there own class related flavor.
They had added in new skills and changed old skills to act like new. To add in countless skills would mean countless fixes for thoughts skills to be usable or not to be so powerful that other skills will become pointless.

“less then 5% map expand”

GW2 started out with a very big map bigger then most mmorpg just starting out to the point where you had dead maps early on because ppl even full world could not populate leading to bad events made for high numbers of ppl.
Prier to the mega world system you had to keep map expansion to a small amount or you would simply have death maps so the expanding maps is starting to kick up due to having this mega world system.
Added note its only a low % added so far because the starting map of GW2 was simply that big to start out with you would have to truly work at spamming maps to get a highish %.

“all the update goes to TP item”

That is how GW2 system works you can get any thing doing any thing you want. The TP or gem store is part of this ideal if you can get gold and use this gold for any thing in the game then any events or mob etc… you kill / do will get you to your goals.

The other things you said was just a rehash of what you said before the main point you fail to see is that LS are expansions. What your realty complaining about is the amount of content or the type of content that you have seen NOT if its from an big expansion or not. You can call LS as a small expansion and the tirdinal expansion as a big expansion this dose not very the type of content but the amount in a given time.

Time being the most important part if you take 6 months of LS you see a 6 month expansion the big different would be the amount of down time between content drops. In a LS type of expansion you have low down time between content updates but each update is not a major about kind of a 1 every 2 weeks. In a start expansion you see high down times between content updates but the updates are much bigger so say 13 every 26 weeks. The point is that your seeing the same content amounts over a time scale just the differences between the time lines in how content is put out.

So asking “why is there no expansion” is an out right silly question there has been many expansion added to the game some payed for as in gem store and some free as in LS events.

Don’t get me wrong, I agree with everything you said. For some people like me, who play online games to play with other players, the multiplayer content is more important than the story. If I wanted to play a story-based game, I would play a singleplayer game (which to me, provides a more immersive experience) like Bioshock Infinite.

Just don’t count on promises until there is an official announcement from Arena Net on this website/forum.

No its not in a lot of ways its going forwarded if you can give different game play with the same class and not need to have 10 classes to do different things then that progress. It means that a player can stay on there favor class at all times with out the need of using a class they do not like because there favorite class is not able to be used during the event.

In a lot of games now they let you switch class on the fly or in a town BUT this system leave out gear and lots of mmorpg even rpg gear is a lot of what makes a class so you need to hold gear for more then one class in your banks etc.. to play what is needed. In GW2 your class just needs some swap and some gear changes but with out the need to comply changes your gear type or even going to a town.

In the old mmorpg you just simply need to have a new hero made for each event if your group is lacking a healer / support then you find some one who plays one and kick the ppl from your group that not need (the dps) or you must swap to a new hero to fill that roll. That system thankful dieing the sooner the better.

On the point of skills why would you need say a skill that removing condition only when you have a skill that removes condition AND dose something else think of GW2 skill in this way. Most skills do a few things in a lot of ways the skills in GW2 are more complex then most mmorpg because in most mmorpg a skill tends to do one thing and one thing only.

Images if that was longer down time? We are talking about LS vs expansion not total content. Take 6 months or 26 weeks of LS and put it into one big update with 26 weeks till something new coming out that IS what your asking for.

A lot has come out and there was a lot to start with if you feel you need to get though it as fast as you can that ok but your going to simply run out of things to do way before every one else that the way all video games are. Look at a person life do you rush though every thing to get to the end of that life as soon as you can or do you try to enjoy it? In mmorpg do you rush to the end of the game to where your only content or fun comes from updates alone and in-between these updates you have nothing to do?

Why are you playing games in the first places to “win and or be the first” at something or to have fun?

i do rush a bit for my gw2 live. somehow it lost a bit of goal for it. however. if i am the only one why all my guild mate gone and not come back? is it all they play in rush? this is what the reality its. GW2 its losting players. ok if one or two people left possible will have their personal reason. but now it talking about 100. is it some thing not going right in this game?

on other hand 2 yrs. i rater have big expansion then LS, no matter what still will have new class coming out.

talking about rush. do u think if not rush possible to craft a legendary? take a look at a yrs ago. its much easier to craft a legendary then current.

Compare to guildwars1 , guildwars2 got very minor update. The temporary contents in living story season 1 is really a big mistake, a wrong move . All the good things just pull away like they never happened. Eventually, those updates just become no meaning and wasted. New players will never have the chance to enjoy those contents.

I wish they would go back to the Season One Living Story-type of implementation. There were more 2-week releases, and I much preferred the Meta Achievements and content released during the first Season. Season Two doesn’t really do it for me; it may be permanent, but I’ve not had any inclination to replay any of it. But, of course, that’s just my opinion. /shrug

I`m surprised we haven’t seen at least one new weapon set added. Even giving existing weapons to another class, so no new models would be needed, hasn’t taken place.

Elementalists, for example, could do with greatsword as a single target damage weapon and other classes have a similar niche that could be filled to round them out.

If three years goes by without any sort of actual new gameplay options or choices….we wont have many people still playing.

These are the kind of excuses which has put GW2 into a wretched state. We can’t have no new zones because they are persistent and Anet may have to work harder? Utter nonsense. We can’t have new skills because the bases are covered? More nonsense. The skill system in GW1 was perfect. Players would spent eons cooking up unique builds. You had the freedom to make what you wanted to make. So what if Anet spent more time balancing classes, the game was fun. Players enjoyed themselves. If it wasn’t for the incredible success of GW1 there wouldn’t be a GW2.

The excuses you relay to indicate a lazy developer. If you don’t believe this read into why dungeons will no longer be made. Your answer awaits.

You’re partially correct on this one, with the exception of rent, unless they’ve moved from the NCSoft data centers that house GW1; the servers are ‘owned’ by NCSoft, not rented, under a contract that allows for continual upgrade as newer software/hardware comes available. Therefore server cost is reduced considerably, now if they’ve moved out of the NCSoft Datacenters, then yes, they would be paying rent.

I like how you completely missed the point of my post because it was out of context. Excuses? What I said are not excuses, they are the reality of things. I never said it was impossible to do or that Anet is right to not do those, I simply stated that they are more complex and thus should not be compared to GW1 timeline.

Go compare it to WoW timeline or something if you want a better comparison. How long did it take for them to finish up Vanilla WoW and then move to Burning Crusade? 2 years after they announced it. That is how long it takes for a big company to pump out a good expansion for a persistent world. Now imagine the task to do that for something like GW2 where each zone has its own set of events and stuff running independently. That is not something you can just say you will do in a few months like for GW1. Don’t go calling stuff “utter nonsense” when you clearly have zero understanding on what I am talking about.

As for the skill system, you’re talking about a completely different aspect to it. What if you had to either pay gold to unlock skills or go do certain tasks to learn them like the trait system does currently for the traits? Because in GW1, you don’t learn skills by simply using skill points in your hero menu. It can’t work like that because the way skills are used in these games are different. If your answer to this is to make the way skills work the same as GW1 then that’s no answer that’s simply you asking for a new campaign in GW1.

Your last statement in the first paragraph doesn’t even connect to the previous parts.

Again, I am not making excuses to indicate lazy developers, I am stating the difference between the very nature of GW1 and GW2 and why you shouldn’t say “Well, GW1 had this, this, and that! Why can’t GW2 have those?” Simply because it doesn’t work like that.

All your post shows is that you’re unsatisfied for some weird reason and that you believe attacking people who have a difference in opinion to you helps.

Sorry disagree with you comments about map size/expansion.

The maps were not all the large in size and most could be explored in under an hour and often a fair bit under level.
The reason we had so many dead maps so early on is two fold.. the maps were to easy to explore to quickly due to size/challenge and secondly there were/are far too many servers spreading the population to thin so that the caps could be lower to offer better stability – consider megaserver and how the amount of stability issues have steadily grown culminating in large numbers of players being DC’ed or suffering group/map wide lagging during boss events, sure some comes back to our end of the connection but I am of the mind more is down to magaservers and map cappings.

I will hazard a guess that new players will eventually be able to play the first chapter of Living Story in some way, doesn’t make sense to not have that unlocked for them.. when it becomes available and whether it will be gem locked via the story journal is another question.

The fact that ANET listened to the complaints that temporary content was not the way to go shows they listen, at least on occasion. LS season 2 is permanent content and can therefore be considered an expansion of the game especially when looking at it over the season rather than by a week drop in patch.

Look at the end of the day 2 yrs in MMO space is not all that long – you have to remember 10+ yrs ago MMO’s that were out or coming out had relatively no competition so player retention was a little easier and subscriptions therefore gave them a little more budgeting capacity.
GW1 by its very nature was something new from a business model and of course players were going to flock to it because they did not have to pay a sub each month.. add that to the fact competition was still a lot less than it is today meant it had a little easier tme testing out the boundaries of game development and expansions off the back of cash shop sales.
Fast forward to where GW2 was 2-3 yrs ago, almost every MMO I have played or knew off was now offering a F2P model with cash shop sales to stimulate income, some still maintained subs as well so it could feed off both models.. GW2 kept with its original model but now competiton to retain players is a lot more fierce so they have to focus on tempting us to part with real coin whilst placing currency sinks in game to keep us hungry or .. buy more gems.
Income must be harder to come by for GW2 just by the way the world is these days, doesn’t mean its failing to make money, doesn’t mean its a penny pincher and doesn’t mean nothing is being done to expand the game in some way shape or form.. add to that large scale expansions take a fair amount of development.. or do you expect them to have that ready for us every 2 weeks…

EDIT – Don’t get me wrong, I like GW2 but it has many issues imo… personally I would rather they get the content/features/mechanics they have in game currently , fixed and working the way they should before they even consider putting a larger scale updates through..

Most of the players on the forums over there are complaining that they’ve gone an entire year with ABSOLUTELY NO new content, not even minor things. I have experienced this in previous wow expacs before I quit, and I would rather have a living story. No, it’s not an expansion, but a world which remains stale for a year is boring.

Wow, what horsekitten. Compared to other MMOs the added content is ridiculous. And yes, they promised updates every two weeks in early 2013 which they absolutely DON’T deliver. It’s now about the amount of content that every MMO gets WITHOUT the additional expansions with new continent/maps/zones, new classes or races, new crafting stuff etc.

Also there is an extreme focus on gem store – I wouldn’t complain if there wasn’t a lack of overall content: two minor maps in 26 months is kittening ridiculous! Even the smallest teams of MMOs like the ones from Secret World accomplished this.

No, it clearly is the misdirection of upper management that led the talented people of Anet without direction. Get used to it and stop defending this kind of update policy be cause there is nothing to defend.

This reminded me on one funny video.

Regarding so wanted expansion and human nature:

“Give us expansion, it hass been 2 years, you suck!”

“I hear they are going to make an expansion, it will probably suck”

“Oh the expansion is here it’s awesome’”

TWO WEEKS LATER

“This expansion sucks”

“This expansion in old now”

“GIVE US THE NEW EXPANSION YOU SUCK ANET”

…..yea.

agree and disagree.

i do rush a bit for my gw2 live. somehow it lost a bit of goal for it. however. if i am the only one why all my guild mate gone and not come back? is it all they play in rush? this is what the reality its. GW2 its losting players. ok if one or two people left possible will have their personal reason. but now it talking about 100. is it some thing not going right in this game?

I havent seen anyone answer this question… (Could have missed it).

When I started playing this game at headstart I joined a guild with friends from another I learned to know from another MMO, most of us came from other MMO’s becouse they started turning old and there where nothing new so we wanted to try something new and GW2 was realy realy hype at that time, it was so hype that I didn’t want to play it (Becouse I despice hype) but my gf convinced me to buy it.
Anyway, 6 of my IRL friends left GW2 after 1-3 weeks after they got level 80 and thought it was to easy to level and it wasn’t fun anymore so they when back to the vertical prog game WoW. A few months later 30-40 of my Guild mates from the old game went back to LotrO becouse an Expansion pack was released (They got tired of Lotro one week later and have never returned, our Guild in that game is dead). Later even more players decided that they didn’t find GW2 that entertaining so they went to try new MMO’s and I havent seen them since.
My point about this is that when a game is new alot of players will join and try it out but also many players wont find it as entertaining as they expected and they will go back to where they feel safe, to a game they know they like or find another game they like. I have also found people that say they don’t like GW2 and leave for a few months but then in the end they start to play GW2 again saying GW2 is not that good but there is no better MMO out there yet.

Now I am in a new big Guild that is not that big but it is ever growing and as long we are promoting our Guild it will live on. Poeple will always leave but there will always join new people if you don’t just leave the Guild to die.

I dont know how Arenanet do it but they manage to invent content with cloaking technology.

less then 5% map expanded, maybe but what about the part that was changed? Destorying lion’s Arch isnt simply done by pressing a switch. They had to essentially create a new map nearly. Same with Kesseks hills when it was taken over by the nightmare alliance. Adding EoTM that makes about 5 maps which makes it closer to 25% then 5%.

No new armors only outfits? What are Radiant, Hellfire, Ascended Armor, glorious armor and hero’s glorious armor sets then? arent those new armors they did? What about the loose pieces of armor we got for LS meta rewards?

The Living story content may have been temporary but it was still content and if you add the bulk of it, it added to quite a lot. even if you count it as 2hrs of game play per release (and really with some achievement replayability it was far longer then that) but lets say its just 2hrs per 2 release it still adds up to 50hrs more per year. That isnt that bad really considering we’re excluding replayability here even though its not something outstanding or anything of the sort.

But you know what there is also something crucial people seem to always miss here. We know for a fact the living story team is made up of 20 or so people.
We know Anet has 350 employees more or less. that means there is about 16 more developers working on content outside of the living story. well a good chunk of that I am sure works in Customer support and QA so lets say 10x for the sake of argument. Have we seen 10x more content outside of Living Story content so far? Do you think Arenanet is just paying them to stay idle? and are they hiring more cause they just like to pay wages to people doing nothing? They may or may not be working on an expansion, we just dont know that. People take it for granted they arent just cause they said they weren’t planning on working on an expansion back in mid 2013 as if they just cannot change their minds ever. But expansion or no expansion there is at least 10x the Living story workforce working on something that expansion or no expansion will be released.

so you saying. they may not have enough fund to start the expansion project?
So if they need permission for expansion
why Aion updated so quick. new class, new map etc. did NC rater spend money on a old mmorpg then a newer one? or they spend all the money on wildstar?

i though they all independent.

because Aion is still one of the most popular games in Korea and is a game which brings the most cash for NCSoft, so they’re developing it constantly.
And to your information, NCSoft already rekt Aion on West side exactly with new classes and maps.
Why?
Imbalanced class mechanics, imbalanced stats, maps where you can pvp is as spacious as your basement.

Honestly, they could actually invest a bit more in Gw2 development and release it in korea as well.

Well it is not Horsedung, it is the actual truth. Ofcourse you don’t have to agree but it is still the truth. And what you are saying that there is an extreme focus on game store is on the other hand compleate Bull becouse if you compare the store to other games store there is so little added. It is pretty comical as I see comments exactly like this in the other MMO’s I play ‘The company only cares about their store, blablablaaa’.

This game might not have given us as much updated content as other MMO’s does in two years (Why would I care?), but it has give me now more than two years almost constant playtime and fun. The only times I played/play less has been during the feature pack breaks, but LS season 1 got me hooked through it all and the amount of content was enough to please me to keep me online everyday, the LS Season 2 is even better becouse now I can see how much content it actually is and I am happy for the players who starts to play later and miss the content as they can now play it too.

So for me I do not care if it is less content in GW2 becouse I have more fun playing GW2 than in other MMO’s waiting almost a year at a time to play one week of content and then grind for the next endgame gear or whatever crap they put in to the game to keep me playing the same crap over and over again.

/shrug

Same feelings actually. While season one was very bumpy in my opinion I did enjoy how it was done. From the screams on forums others did not. So I will wait for the next season to see where it goes again.

This is an excellent statement that goes to the core of the issue. Gw2 isnt like other MMOs they’ve said it in the manifesto and stuck with it so far. Their choice of content and their strategy aligns with this too.

Gw2 on the other hand strives to just provide content for people to play. Gw2 isnt about long term goals primarily, its about living in the moment. We had a ton of temporary content in the past, now thats gone sure but hey each one of those releases kept me entertained for its 2 week time span why act like it never existed just cause I cannot go and enjoy it again?

LS updates arent huge sure but they’re just enough to fill a good chunk of the two week time span and for the rest of the wait well you still have a huge world to choose from.

This has been much more enjoyable to me than what the competition did. Some that release content every couple of months or so just drag their content out in a way thats really frustrating. Having you unlock each next part by having you repeating the same content and locking you out to prevent burnout which generally at least for me happens anyway… just hate repetition.

Those that go with the 2 year expansions well the amount of content they release is nice but again it feels stretched out and you finish it long before the next one hits despite its “stretching”.

Even if that x10 development time turns out to be people vacationing 24/7 and we never get anything but LS updates, Like EdgarMTanaka said, the content they provided is at least for some of us, fun, enjoyable and not frustrating.

I walked away from MMOs because I just didnt want to repeat the same stuff to unlock the next bunch of content and while eventually I end up getting back it always had me struggling with the frustration of having to pick up that repetition again. With Gw2 there is just no frustration at all. Its been 2 years and I havent event played all it has to offer yet and I am sure most of you asking for new content didnt either. There are so many personal story lines combination, so many different dynamic events to experience. Hidden secrets to discover. Variety of content to play (mini games, pvp, WvW, JPs, Mini Dungeons, Dungeons, Fractals, Guild Missions etc..) and all the time distracted by 2 weekly updates here, WvW tournament there, Holiday event right over there, SAB now and again. Its glorious really. No MMO provides unlimited content but Gw2 feels like its the closest to get there.

Anet has released a ton of content since launch. I may not agree with much of it, but at least theyve been busy.

They have a long road and I’ve yet to see long needed feats such as GvG. But that doesnt mean we need an expansion, it’s better to have content roll out at a steady phase.

Also we should be grateful for gw2 being different than the traditional treadmill we see these days among mmorpgs. A grand example is a certain known mmorpg in space that releases like 3 expansions a year, with the exact same setup: 1 or 2 new zones, 5 new lvls, new gear pve and pvp, rince an repeat! This is a cheap way of “creating content”, it’s not fun it’s just a grind. At least in gw2 when you are 80 and have exo/asc you are done!

True they have released a “ton” of new content, but the fact is that a lot of players like adventure and exploring. That’s why when Dry Top opened up a lot of enthusiasm and excitement was all over the place both around the web and in game.

The LS had many purposes, one to introduce expansion like content in small chunks which it did. It just doesn’t keep up tho with our appetite so we feel starved for new content.

I’m kinda on both sides here. One, I see what they have done and how it’s different than typical MMO stuff, but on the other I see all the potential they could’ve fulfilled , but haven’t yet. It was a gamble for them to put so much focus on the LS. Now that it had it’s strong moments and we are now in the middle of a dry spell I hope they didn’t make the wrong decision to begin with.
