theres a lot of talk going on and people are saying this game is dead. I dont think it is necessarily true what do u guys think?

I think it’s a bad question and doesn’t really make for good discussion.

Accounts per server. They don’t have to be active.

Anet isn’t going to tell you, the players don’t have the info, you’re going to get a ton of biased responses, there is no right or wrong answer here.

Seriously, just play the game if you like it, or don’t play if you don’t. If you’re on a dead server, switch.

Not trying to be antagonistic, but you won’t get any concrete, good answers from the player base.

It’s impossible to even attempt to measure a server’s population, because of the Guesting feature. Only A-net knows the true numbers, and since there isn’t any subscriptions, one way of measuring the population is by averaging user logins per hour, per day, per week, etc.., but only A-net is able to do that.

I’m sure people will say achievement points doesn’t reflect the population, but I personally believe there is some truth about the state of the game, at least for the long term PvE players.
Also, there have been multiple discounted sales for this game (I think at least five times), for a game just over a year old now.
Even discounts weren’t enough, they had to resort to giving the game away for free, which probably failed, as well.

Also, they still believe in PvP/esport, despite some of the more competitive teams disband or leave.

You’ll have to draw your own conclusion on what you think of the state of the game.

Depends what you mean by dead. A game can be full to bursting point and still make a commercial loss, or it can be nearly empty and still make the developer money.

At a guess GW2 is still commercially viable since it’s still running, so no it’s not dead.

If things were getting bad, we would see an announcement for the closure of GW1 servers as I doubt that brings in much money compared to the costs of running the servers and networks. It also has the least chance of increasing revenue as opposed to GW2’s potential.

I think the amount of new players have increased on Gunnars Hold (EU) Med/Low pop server what I know.

It could have just been a very odd timing but yesterday I was doing some exploring on Gandarran fields and I ran in to several big groups of players (No bots and no Champ farmers). We helped eachother to do events and roaming champions.
I estimate the # to have been around was 20 players during an hour playtime on Gendarran Fields.

Later same day I was going to help my friends with Forsaken Halls in Dredgehaunt cliffs where I started the event up at snowslide ravine. While doing this event more and more players gathered and we ended up being a total of 8 players doing the same Mini-Dungeon.

After that we decided to do a CoE run and while doing the events around the middle point we ran in to four other players so that makes a total of nine players.

It wasn’t that many if you just count the numbers but for the duration of time we spent on the maps compared to how many other players we met it is quite alot IMO.

The “problem” GW2 has is that it devides all players all over the world and inside dungeons and Fractals… Where you actually see players is in LA and DR so I beleave that it is still doing good.

BTW about giving out games for free or with discounts usually don’t mean it is going bad it could also be the opposite. What if sales are good enough that you can give away games for free or have discounts so that there will be more players playing the game and use the money on Gems… That’s atleast where I think they get their money from, not from the box sales. I assume most players who has spent money on gems have spent more money on gems than on the actual game purchase.

Look at DDO, I thought that game was going to die when stores all over my country sold it for less than 3$. It was the cheapest MMO I have ever seen. Few months after that the game got F2P and can’t say it’s thanks to the F2P model but the game is still living and updating.

It’s not “dead”. There’s plenty of people in the game playing and enjoying it. The buy-to-play model allows people to leave and come back with very little punishment. When people get bored they leave. If they want to play they come back, simple as that. There’s plenty going on and a steady population coming in with the consistant sales. Multiple sales don’t make a game dead, it makes the market strategy smart.

That said draw you’re own opinion. There aren’t as many people on as week 1, but the game isn’t SWTOR before it went free to play.

In ALL games I’ll say this: The vocal minority are ALWAYS vocal. They’re the people that say “Give us ice cream.” When you give them ice cream they flip it to the floor and scream “I WANTED CHOCOLATE NOT VANILLA.” Happy players are quiet for the most part because they’re content.

Or the vocal minority just likes to listen to themselves kitten and the others just play the game for what it is and if they get bored, feel its dead/dying, or they find something else, they just quietly leave. This game has no monthly fee so people will come and go at the drop of a hat. There is no feeling that you gotta play to get your $15 a month out of it.

Ok right now i stop reading forums unless its anet tread.Im so tired of this troll topics how game is dead,how has no end game and so…Why u need to listen what people say…people say that WOW is dead but it has 7mil people…..Game dead means that u have no1 to play with.Now tell me when u use dungeon finder to find pt for dungeons is it hard to find pt?Is it hard to find pt for fractials?Is it hard to find pt for PVP?Are there no people in WvW?There is your answer.This game is not dead,its new fastest growing MMORPG since WOW and haters gonna hate so u will always find those sort of statements from there anywhere.Why u even care?If this game dont seem dead for u why u care is it dead for others?Seriously for this gamers today its far more important that game has good reputation and over 5 million people then to be fun to play.
