Q:
jumping gliding
Don’t think anet has said and why only low level alts?
I was thinking of my main that it did most of the low level zones, but yes, any character that needs to do lower level jumping contortions should be able to disable glide when necessary to complete the objective.
Just don’t hold your spacebar when you jump and you won’t glide.
I’m not sure the Jumping Puzzles/Vistas in the lower-level areas are any more contortionistic than those in the higher levels (some in Orr come to mind).
As above, try to forget your controller muscle-memory, and just quickly tap the space bar.
Good luck.
Yes don’t hold jump. It’s a hard habit to break but it really doesn’t make you super jump or anything ;-)
I’m all for options, and I wouldn’t object to a on/off toggle. However, it astounds me that someone at my age, and with a muscle weakness disease, barely has any problems with my glider opening during jumping puzzles, yet so many others are.

re: Just don’t hold your spacebar when you jump and you won’t glide. – Yes, this is absolutely how it should work, 100% of the time, for everyone. But it doesn’t. Jump/glide behavior is inconsistent for some of us.
I have observed at some particular jumps that the glider seems to want to deploy instead of just jumping. At other times, jump/glide works as expected, or fails to work properly, at the same jump. There are numerous factors that figure in: internet connection quality, speed of PC hardware, keyboard quality, etc… Anet could research this(like they did with Australian players’ internet latency-related glider issues), or they could just give us a simple solution like a new key bind for a “jump only” key. I’d prefer the simple, easy to implement solution.
<edit>
And I’ve also noticed that when I’m tired, the glider seems to “misbehave” more. But I realize that’s on me. A “jump only” key would still be a viable solution for that.

You don’t understand playing on a mushy keyboard that it isn’t as easy as you suggest as they don’t often register the jump without holding it down for a time very close to time that’s used to deploy the glider. Quick taps don’t always jump.
And no, I’m not going to buy a better keyboard simply to play games when you can type on it just fine.

If you can type paragraphs without spacing issues then the problem you describe is made up as an excuse to not break habit of “super jumping”.
re: If you can type paragraphs without spacing issues then the problem you describe is made up as an excuse to not break habit of “super jumping”. – If you don’t experience the issue yourself, you can always say that the other person is just making their own problems.
And obviously all those players in Australia just didn’t know what they were doing, right after HoT shipped. And they all just happened to L2P right after Anet looked into the issue and made a fix.
You obviously aren’t even trying to understand the issue. Typing is nothing like using the keyboard to play a game. You’ve certainly done both, so you really should know that.
The glider has deployment issues. Anet needs to admit that and make a reasonable fix. A key bind for “jump only” wouldn’t hurt anyone. It wouldn’t change things for people who like it that way it is, and it wouldn’t require an extensive re-work of jumping or gliding mechanics.

I find my glider deploys when i double tap space and not when i hold it down. Which is a bit crap coz sometimes i need to double tap the space bar to get the jump to register, which sometimes makes vistas a nightmare. Shoutout to all my mesmers who save me when I’m at wits end.
