just watched an ori node disappear...
A shame isn’t ‘it. I have 9 level 80s and if they weren’t character bound I could not only farm the 18 nodes I can now reach but would also be able to guest to 2 other servers and (hopefully) get new maps and get 36 more nodes. In addition I could wait until Jormag forces an overflow and get 18 or 36 or 54 or even more nodes, depending on my luck and the overflows.
Everyone else who has multiple alts could do this. With a little help with partying, people could pull each other into new maps repeatedly and farm with all their alts.
Of course there might be some very small, tiny impact on the price of ori and ancient wood if this was possible.
Or it’s possible that they are restricted for a reason.
Astral, I think nolij meant that one disappeared while s/he was mining another as opposed to wanting to mine the same one on a different character.
It’s possible you may have been doing it near the reset as most nodes aren’t permanent. I know that some nodes continuously reset during any given day, but their locations can change at the daily reset. You may have just been unlucky enough to come across just such a one
If seen ori nodes disappear if I’ve already mined one earlier on a character, leave, come back to a different map, find a node with another in view and mine it. I suspect he had already mined earlier but forgot.
Ori nodes are fixed in position as long as you are on a map, reset or not. Your presence on the map pins them in place. As long as one person is on the map their position is fixed. It’s only when the map empties out that the map will despawn and the position of the nodes will reset when someone else enters the map and respawns it.

That’s interesting, I’ve not stayed in one spot long enough to see that happen.
Disappearing nodes? That’s a first. I thought nodes don’t change locations now until you re-enter the map. If you stay in the map, the nodes should remain visible and where they are until you mine them.
I’ve seen a few times nodes disappear in wvw, but that was because i farmed them again, farmed the new ones, and that the ‘thing responsible on the servers, for pointing out nodes’, didn’t release it’s cache (like a browser, who doenst update to newest site version), and suddenly it ‘dissapeared’ from the screen.
You can see this very well in homenode. Farm it on one char, come back on another. Sometimes, if the cache clearing is to slow, you’ll see the nodes shotly, then vanish.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
I think it could be a bug with the mini map.
I’ve often seen nodes that appear briefly on the map and then disappear again if I move. When I go to the location where the marker was there’s nothing there – not a mined node, nothing at all. And I’m 100% I haven’t been on that map at all with another character.
I see it most often in the sea in the top left corner of Bloodtide Coast, but that might be because that’s where I’m farming most often.
It’s usually an iron node which makes me think it’s not Anet disabling nodes when you mine one of the same type, it would be absurd to do that with iron where it’s one of the most common metals in the game. (It would be absurd to do it at all, but you could probably get a good conspiracy going with Ori nodes, iron not so much.)
I’ve reported it but I guess it’s either very low priority, hard to replicate and therefore fix or a bit of both.

I`ve seen the reverse of this. I have been in one area, moved round a corner, come back and suddenly there is a node there.
I have also mined a node (completely), left it for a few minutes, returned to the area and found it completely restored.
Neither involved me changing map, I just moved so that the area was out of sight for a while and then on return, the change was there and I remember being shocked by it the first few times.
