i spent 3 hours coaching and explaining every fractals to a group of newbies that i stumbled upon at frac lvl 7, and soloed 2/3 bosses for them. then the host got tired after we wiped at the last boss and decided to leave the group..

its incredibly frustrating, and im sure everyone had similar experiences.

is there any benefits to this mechanism? why would devs go out of their way to design such a system? is there some kind of glitch that can be abused if no one gets kicked after the hsot left?

im sorry if i sound slightly upset, but i just need to let this out somewhere.

Yes. Welcome to GW2 dungeons. It’s been like this for over a year, and there is no update on whether it’s going to be fixed. There’s a thread somewhere in the Dungeons forum section, where a dev said they were looking into it, but this was a year ago. This is the reason why i won’t do dungeons anymore, and without dungeons, GW2 becomes very shallow as an mmo.

I also forgot to add, that if the dungeon starter leaves, you will not get the achievement or loot, if he leaves before you get a chance to loot.

hmm i guess the way to bypass it is to only play with guildie or to host the dungeon yourself. i think you can exploit this mechanism if youre the host. go afk and no one can do anything but to either fight on for you or leave.

This is one thing that does need fixing. It is very frustrating when it happens accidentally as in your case most likely was and even more so when the host either does it deliberately or threatens to do it to get what they want. This is why I always try to be the one to start a dungeon. I will not leave until everyone has given up.

I am sure the new people learned a lot of valuable stuff during those three hours. Take heart in that.

yea but unfortunately im sure they also learned that fractals is long and frustrating (we ran into the inquest lab) and probably not worth the trouble

well unless they found out about the shiny back piece that is

either way, im sure the devs added this specific feature for a reason. otherwise it shouldve been changed or removed a long time ago

again im really sorry if i sound slightly bitter, but this experience is very discouraging

It was just probably quicker to get the code sorted this way. Making the instance not change hands is certainly possible, and just lazy that it wasn’t coded that way.

I’ve been saying we’re playing a Beta for a year.

Indeed, you should apologize for not sounding very upset.

My two nickels: yeah, it sucks and needs to be fixed.
