chat supression
Anyone totally new to the forum who has just come on to check it out would be completely and entirely perplexed by this and would be worrying about the state of your mental health.
You get mute after 3 times now?
yes, its absolutely stupid.
To top it off there is no party search window, which WAS a function in GW1 and for unknown reasons is absent in GW2.
35 minutes now still suppressed logged out entirely and left to do something else
still cannot type a single thing
changed characters still suppressed
(edited by Tactical AFK.7480)
wow, just in “map” chat or in general? I have not been on since patch that sounds INSANE! ! ! ! ! ! ! and just as we were gonna do our first dungeon tonight O_O
I was really glad to no end to see no stupid chat suppression crap from the start as I am still used to talking in short sentences unless there is a need for more clarity, if they just added this with the recent patch I’m gonna cry
seems like yet another example of ANet changing something in the game, usually to the players’ detriment, as a kludge instead of fixing the real problem (chat spammer bots).
That chat suppression is meant to suppress gold spamming bots, and others who are spamming the chat with their useless crap.
3 times in 15 minutes is an average of once every 5 minutes.
Maybe it is too strict, but would it be any better if you were unable to read the chat because there was 15 gold spamming bots spamming their messages all the time?
If you have 15 gold selling bots, and each of them posted their message once every 5 minutes, that would be an average of 1 message every 20 seconds.
Is that preferable to what we have now?
But if you are so upset about it, why not change the wording of your text?
How hard can it be to change your text each time you type it?
Players have been complaining about the gold seller spam and literally demanding that Anet fix the problem yesterday.
When they finally do something about it, then that is bad too?
Some people are just never satisfied.
the text was changed numerous times even threw in random numbers and everything else that would change the content while still making it clear to people that it was a LFG request
its been 45+ minutes since and still suppressed im just gonna call it quits
the system is such a piece of kitten
It’s not that we’re never satisfied.
It’s that instead of tightening security so that it’s not so simple to run bots, they’re putting restrictions of players who are following the rules, trying to play the game according to the rules.

And how would you do it then?
What would you do different that would be better?

To be honest I find this hard to believe, because I have never had this problem and I have done plenty of LFG in chat.
But then again I dont just change a single letter or number, I reword the whole sentence.
Maybe thats your problem.

Here’s just a thought — how about if an account is loggin on to the game, they have to be running the actual client, and not a bot?
How about some server-side security so hackers can’t use the reportedly 20-million attempted passwords for each account trying to get in?

One message per 5 min? What if you are having a conversation or asking for advice from others over Map? at this rate people will be reluctant to say anything at all in fear of being locked down. Two messages per 30 seconds… which is the restriction some other game uses, probably Rift or Wow, I don’t know I quit both that restriction is harsh, 3 per 15 min is psychotic! Even for LFG, there is nothing wrong with posting it once per minute and on top of all of this the gold spammers from what I have seen have been very scarce, they are yet to bother me.

dude what part of rewording THE ENTIRE chat phase did you not understand
other people are seeing this problem
whoopdy doo you dont suffer from it even though you spam the samge message over and over again
I just tried it out on my server… It took 6 hits using the same message to trigger the map suppression. Changing each message does not trigger it.
Changing zones resets it.

exactly who gives a flying kitten about gold chat spams
we have the BLOCK option + REPORT GOLD SELLER option
isnt that kittening good enough
unless it is some moronic player that doesnt understand you can block gold sellers then christ we have some serious issues

They already did something like this.
They have been monitoring these attempted logins and based on that have blacklisted thousands of passwords already.
By blacklisting these passwords you will not be able to use then with this game.
They only blacklisted passwords, not account names or e-mails.
There was an announcement about it a while back. but I cant find it right now
sometimes I get restricted for no reason, even tho I didn’t even type anything previously…

I don’t see gold spammers because I’ve blocked them all. The chat suppression is already obsolete.
I spend a lot of time in map chat just answering people’s questions, of which there are often quite a lot. I can easily send more than 3 messages in one minute to do this. In games with chat suppression I don’t even bother helping anyone because it’ll cut me off before I can even finish. If I have any questions of my own I can just forget it. There’s no way I’d be able to ask the question, ask for clarification, and then thank everyone who answered.
Chat suppression is a tool used by jank Asian developers who genuinely don’t care about customer satisfaction as long as they have your money.

I highly suspect that you might have been posting more than three messages in a 15 minute window. 3 LFG posts sure, but what about everything else? Were you completely and utterly silent for the other 14.5 minutes?
If you ONLY posted 3 messages and got silenced by the game, it might be a bug seeing as a big update just went in. It might help to take a deep, calming breath and log a bug report just in case.
However, if you were having a spirited map conversation with someone (or a lot of someones) in between LFG posts, you might have copped it for something else you said or posted.
The name and shame that ANet did a few weeks back certainly showed us that the majority of complainants were not entirely honest…

You seem to be missing a vital point here
It only blocks you if you post the same message repeatedly, not if you write something different every time.
How many gold selling bots have you seen holding an actual conversation, and not just spam the exact same text over and over with absolutely no change to it?
And my example is not really that outrageous.
I remember back when I played wow how bad it was there.
There were hundreds of gold spamming bots spamming chat so it was impossible to hold any form of conversation.
i hold weird conversations all the time and never get suppressed…
I would love to see screenshots of this 45 minute suppression and “only saying three things, and having everything changed” issue.
Pictures are worth a thousand words!
Why mute commanders? kittened.
