After hot release anet should really really put some though into this. Let’s make off hands the 3rd auto attack chain.

Guardian for example with a sword, does first 2 auto attacks and if wielding a shield bashes the player, if torch hot with 3 stacks of burning for 1 second, if focus remove a boon and damage.

This game sadly always lacked true build diversity. By setting off hands to effect auto attacks this could really change builds.

Thoughts?

That would entail making a lot of new skills. Most likely too much work for too little gain.

Actually it would not require designing new skills. It would, however, require new animations. And the same reason prevents them from implementing it: too much work for too little gain.

Not that it’s a TON of work… but it’s just not a simple check box or line of code.

Actually the OP’s suggestion does require new skills to be made, I do like this idea though – won’t be implemented for a while though.

Revenant’s sword attack chain gives hope, no? I find it a tad odd only hitting something with one of my daggers at a time.

As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.

I feel stupid now for not actually reading the whole OP. I’ve seen requests like this since the game launched, and usually people just want to visually see the offhand weapon strike the enemy during the auto attack chain.

I agree completely. I’ve never understood the design as is. It would also give a higher chance of getting offhand weapon kills which is nice, especially for something like shield.

Realistically, it’s very hard to coordinate both your hands at once. Even fighting with two weapons, you would likely use the one in your dominant hand almost to the exclusion of the other, only occasionally switching focus when the situation demanded.

of course, you also would likely not be free to just hack at your opponent without them attempting some kind of dodge/defense/counter so realism may not be all that relevant…

i really hope we will automatically change the skill 1 chain 2nd skill into a off hand attack animation (keep the original skill stat, just animation) unless the off hand weapon is a shield, warhorn or focus.

Well, it’d be like Thieve’s Dual attack skills (skill 3).

Well, I dunno about having non-weapon off hands (Focus, Warhorn and Shield) affecting it, but it’d be quite nice idea.

Since dual-wield would mean martial weapons on both hands, Maces, Swords, Axes and Daggers. And Off hand Torch would be technically a weapon too.

But instead of being the third chain skill, rather make it add a 4th chain skill into it.
Example: Warrior dual swords, Off hand chain skill inflicts 1-2 stack of torment for X seconds.

And well, there’s this problem:

Realistically, it’s very hard to coordinate both your hands at once. Even fighting with two weapons, you would likely use the one in your dominant hand almost to the exclusion of the other, only occasionally switching focus when the situation demanded.

I’m a casual PvE adventurer, I enjoy combat, adventure and helping, but not farming.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

Which is something I find GW2 represents very well. Offhands have longish cooldown utilitarian types skills so you use them situationally in between autoattacks when it makes sense.

+1

I would add that ANET doesn’t have the resources to spare for doing this extra work.
