light speed dead men
Deep in the bowels of Arah is the Orrian Gym where undead get their swell on… bro. You just haven’t found it cause it’s very exclusive membership (no living allowed <.<).
weekend at Bernies, Bernie moved pretty slow…
zombies = less body fat = more muscle = leaner = faster :P
Obviously they’re the “28 Days Later” variety of zombies and not the classic shamblers. They co-ordinate better than pretty much any other mob type as well, so maybe they’re choreographed, like in the old Thriller video or something.
They aren’t true zombies, they might be technically count as they’re undead but undead fueled by Zaitan’s magic. They seem to have awareness, so maybe they’re better classified as revenants?
“I can’t get over how FAST they all are, it’s not even fair. I’m calling zombie bullkitten on that, you know? [Giggles nervously] They’re not…ALLOWED to be so fast.” Zoey, Left 4 Dead
Well … if there weren’t fast then there would have to be one hundred times as many. Now there is a train if you can imagine.
Not sure if there is a real lore appropriate reason.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
The “Frezy” buff they all have makes them move so fast. You get an appropriate run speed for a zombie(ihmo), only if you chill them =)).
Risen are not meant to challenge us, they are only meant to annoy us… endlessly.
At least, that’s why I believe they are so fast and respawn so quickly.
They actually remind me of those very early silent movies that moved too fast; or those comic skits from early Three Stooges/Benny Hill (maybe even Keystone Cops). Now, if they were slightly humorous or fun to play against, I might get a chuckle from them. :P
What’s really sad; if we look back at the earliest videos of GW2; we see all the main named NPCs charging towards the front line. Going against them, shambling powerful looking Risen. Now we have… well, what we have. lol
The risen wouldn’t even annoy me so much if they didn’t run so ridiculously fast.
I feel like Arena Net made them go supersonic just to screw with anyone using a low health build/profession by making it nearly impossible to kite them.

Because Orr wasn’t awful enough when they moved at reasonable speeds.
This is the only thing that bugs me. Orr could be a haunting beautiful wasteland with slow lumbering undead everywhere like the animators obviously tried to do with their active and passive animations but somewhere along the way someone thought they needed to move fast with a crazy aggro range so that you never see the passive animations and can’t travel anywhere without them zooming to you with way too fast cripple animations.
@Alexander – I agree. Orr has some really great looking artistic style around it. It’s very “moody” and gloomy. The coral and ruins all over really make it look like it might – an Isle risen from the ocean.
The Risen however, completely break the immersive quality of the entire Orrian isle.
For laughs:
The first week of launch, I had made mention of how the Risen behaved. Someone said to me “It’s good they are trying to flank. It’s smart. It’s like what players do.” – this person meant it; they were really excited about this. A few days later he made it to Orr. I asked him if he still felt the same. He said “If this is what players are supposed to play like, I’m in the wrong game. These things suck!”
Another person said, while standing near me “They are that fast to stop people from just running passed them.” – We watch a train run past, so I ask “How’s that working out?” (he’s on my friends list now – heh)
Anyway, good times to be had in GW2; even with the really poorly designed Risen.
