As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
was this question answered? i recall someone saying that not letting an event finish in order to get the endless waves of mobs was considered an exploit. is this really the case?
i do believe the answer to that was yes…
They banned/suspended a number of people so I would say yes.
Linen farm is not endless. It has an invisible timer.
Yes, people have been permanently banned for this, but it was revoked after a support ticket was sent in – with the condition that said exploitive farming would not continue, otherwise they would be permanently, permanently banned.
People have been banned for the Linen farm?
Who???
Whoa… said method of controlling the character while farming was probably the issue. From what I read it wasn’t about farming in itself or anything about finishing an event.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying or farming an event and letting it run as long as you want. Now, if someone comes along and wants to finish it and you berate them, that’s a different story.
If Anet wants events to end in a certain amount of time, then they have to put a timer on them. Can’t magically expect players to know what the Dev’s want. Nor, should players have a huge grey area held over them of what is or isn’t an acceptable duration.

There was someone here who posted that they he and his friend got banned. I inquired privately with them and they described the exchange with me.
Exploiting a farm spot that spawned too many mobs too quickly lead to Anet taking action. So the event was fixed, and players were hit with warnings. The biggest offenders got the perma-ban hammer.
When I want linen, I hang around in Iron Marches, completing flame legion related events. There are a lot of them and the area is filled with flame legion. So I just complete the events and kill every flame legionnaire I see. They drop bags and frayed garments, no need to hold an event forever.
Anet nerfed that one event chain within the past week or two, so farming it is not nearly as useful as it used to be.
Yes, people have been permanently banned for this,
Is that a joke? Did they really BAN people for farming stuff??? If this behaviour continues I guess I am leaving this game soon, there must be some serious control freak in the dev team if they really do that…
If they do not want people farming, there is an easy way – give them some better possibility.
This was discussed about a million times – since I can do my daily rich vein run this should also work for other mats. I like the idea of being rewarded by a real treasure of this game – the crafting materials – after doing something slightly challening (jumping puzzles, fighting stronger mobs). Why do I need to run around looking for wood nodes or mass killing mobs in hope that something might even drop next time is beyond my understanding…
Well yeah I can grind ac for money and buy the stuff but I hate doing it. If I want the mats, I want to go to harvest them and I want to have fun doing it.
Anet nerfed…
Somebody please tell them that nerfing is certainly NOT the way to go.
