looking back. rem when ppl said no new class
In this case, ANet has already stated we won’t get any more classes after Rev I do believe, as they said the whole reason they made Rev was for two reasons: Rytlock, and the fact that there were only two heavy armor classes whilst there were 3 lights and 3 mediums. I could be wrong though, the whole HoT announcement/interviews were so kitten long ago lol.
The theme of the Revenant might be new (to GW2) and it’s class mechanic might be unique (to GW2) but it doesn’t really fill a new role in terms of gameplay.
Like gamerinachair said, we now have 3 professions of each armor class. In addition, Anet has said that elite specs are the way in which our character options will be expanded in the future. So not only is there little room for more professions, there is also little reason for more professions (thanks to elite specs). Also, each new profession would need the same amount of elite specs as the other professions, this becomes increasingly difficult as more elite specs are introduced. And that’s without even considering the amount of resources and balance problems entirely new professions are likely to introduce (which is a lot more than elite specs).
The theme was already made for them. The entire class is fueled by nostalgia instead of original design. A vast majority of the skills themselves are hardly any different than anything we have seen before either, and the class added very little to the game at large regarding actual new application of current GW2 engine mechanics. Aside from a select few abilities, everything “new” about the Revenant was either sourced and modified from already-existing code or outright ripped from old content.
All of the particle effects are new, though.
They still had to fill the Ritualist Role so yeah. Was also missing a 3rd heavy meowvy, even though armor tiers make me sad.

Could you not argue that rather than being a new class of original design its a class that imitates other classes or rather acts in a way that would be sufficient for a new elite spec of an existing class?

as there were 3 light classes, 3 medium classes and only 2 heavy classes it wasn’t a huge stretch that a 3rd heavy would be added, and thematically i expected something "deathknight"ish so a “ghostknight” (which is how i’d describe rev) is’nt far off
there are still new class possibilities, but they’ve just made the armour weights per class balanced, so i doubt they’ll want to make it 3, 3, 4.
Looking back on the past here with the GW2 community i remember how the vocal majority on the forum before HoT was thought of by the masses,
people were saying we would never get a new class, because all fantasy archtypes were already covered by the 8 original classes.
fast forward to the present, and Anet gives us a new class with its own mechanics and theme.
So never say never to new classes. Its always possible to design something new and fresh.that being said, how many of you believe we will get another future class in an expansion?
If so, what theme and archetype would it fit? Whats some ideas you may have?
Sheeple will always go along with what some people say/think just to feel smarter about themselves. I can assure you not ALL of us said they would not make anymore classes. Just like not ALL of us say “nay” to many other ideas/things that are said here.
Tbh whenever a new thread is made with either a suggestion or comment on if something will come into the game or not I would say the first few posts to reply may actually have some what of a direction of where more replies will go. Not always but I have seen it before.
Example there was one post where someone suggested more options for the whisper system. Only myself and the op were all for it (from what I remember). There were a good handful of people against, saying such things as “wont happen”, “not worth the time or resources”. There was no support for it besides myself and the op……………….
That is until a Mod posted asking for more details on what we would like, however saying there will be no promises. What happened next do you think? All of a sudden the post became very popular and everyone was in support of it. I say it again – SHEEPLE!

There’ll never be any raids in gw2 either, raids just go against everything gw2 is about!
yeah I remember how a lot of ppl said anet would add a new race over a new class, kinda like they said there would never be an expansion, tbh the logic they were basing their conclusion on was sound, it made sense at the time, but its always great to see the self assured get debunked. I wonder what this means about gw’s future though, what kinda game itll be 2 years from now.
I feel like it’s a misnomer to say that people said all possible roles were filled. The argument against most new class suggestions was simply how that class would differ from classes that already existed. If it wasn’t different enough it couldn’t serve effectively as a new class.
The same goes for suggestions of new weapons, or adding existing weapons. If the functionality isn’t different enough it isn’t worthwhile.

Didn’t one of them say the Rev was one of the originally planned classes that they had to drop for some reason? That its not entirely new?
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
Most people here are short sighted and lack any sort of creativity, they can’t figure out how to design a new class, so they think it’s impossible.
Just a bunch of armchair warriors who think they know how to develop a game.
Gotta remember as well back then, there was no plans for an expansion and no news of one coming in the future. Living World was the path they were taking for all future content.
So the likelihood of introducing a new profession in the Living World was pretty much zero. So yeah, a lot of people said we wouldn’t be getting a new profession based on that information we had back in those days. The only way we were getting one, was if an expansion came out. But seeing as expansions were a no-no back then, we didn’t expect a new profession.
