Hey all,

I’ve been off of GW2 for awhile now, but am coming back to get back to the swing of things before the expansion drops. Anyways, I’ve created a new character and going through the new “guided” start of the game.

At first I was on board for it, but the new changes are really boring…like I have no desire to continue playing, and in its current setup, the game really isn’t giving me a reason to keep playing. It’s just forcing me to keep doing the hearts in the world. I read that story missions are unlocked at a certain level(only lvl8 with new character).

I enjoyed the old progression system where I would explore the world, then do story missions, explore, then do more stories. Basically it was just more breaks between each activity. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of stuff they’ve added is pretty cool(unlocks associated with leveling), but now its just explore(grind levels) then a whole story? Does this get better at all?

Thanks.

You won’t have to hunt for traits after the next update, so I suggest not buying any before then.

As for boring open world gameplay, you might want to try other methods of leveling such as WvW or PvP. Once you are level 80, all the gated content is gone.

The arrow there is just a suggestion. You can even turn it off in the option menu so you can go explore were ever you want Yes you can’t access the first personal story till lvl 10, but they made it quicker to get thru the first 30 level.

I understand that the previous way of levelling had a lot more freedom- you could do story missions higher than the level you are currently, if you wanted to (until a certain point). But you didn’t get to level 80 just from doing story…

So, apart from the new system (NPE) being more regimented, it’s still the same as it was previously. Both then and now you were led to doing map completion between story missions.

Your first story mission is at level 10, where you will receive a whole “chapter” of missions. Once you have completed those, do some more map completion until you hit level 20.

If you’re finding the map you’re in too boring, you can easily access some other starter zones by running through LA and the cultural cities. You can still enter PvP, WvW and EotM even as a low level under the NPE (providing you know the hotkeys or already have a character at level 80). These activities will also reward you with exp or tomes of knowledge.

I found a pretty fun way of running across the maps to explore them. Once you’re level 15, you can easily follow the trail of low-to-mid level areas from east-to-west (or vice versa). Brisban, Kessex, Gendarran, Snowden and Diessa are all joined or connect low level areas or cities. This makes it really quick to access story missions later on, too.
