This here. The reason why they make you purchase a Bank Express/Personal Golem Banker is for this purpose (along with easy bank access). It’s a QoL feature you have to purchase, and if they added the suggested OP it would invalidate both of the above items and outcry would ensue (I purchased this item, refunds please! etc.).

Actually what you want is the additional crafting license. You can see how much of each material from the crafting tab. The licenses apply to all characters so you need at most 2.

You can also go into the PvP lobby and access your bank there. Not very useful for WvW or in the middle of a dungeon/fractal but why would you need to check your material storage in the middle of a dungeon?

I forgot to mention that, actually. Going to the PvP lobby is a great one-stop place for banking, TP and vendor access, and it’s completely free (no WP costs). It also gives you a portal straight to LA so you can use the Forge. Pretty much the best thing about the PvP lobby for a PvE player.
