Hey guys.

I just bought the game yesterday in the sale. But i actually intend to start playing in about a month or two, after my university finals and stuff.
Basically i want to ask whats the Max period i can be inactive in the game before arena.net deactivates it?
I will still log onto my account from the site and forums from time to time.

One million years. Lol, all joking aside, ArenaNet will never deactivate an account for inactivity. You can browse through the threads in Account Issues, but the one with the Dev addressing that is pretty far back. If the search feature worked, I would link it for you.

As far as I know Your account will never deactivate as long as ArenaNet maintains the servers or your permabanned

I see. Thanks for the quick replies guys. =D
Also, do you choose a server before creating a character, meaning all your characters will be on the same server?
Or is it that you can have a different character on different servers.
Mainly i ask this because i have a friends playing on an American server and friends playing on EU servers. So i’d like to play with them all =)

You will need two copies to play NA and EU. You may guest to other servers, but only within your own region.

All your characters are on the same server. Note that you can transfer servers for a gem fee if you have characters in your account, or for free if you don’t have any characters (if you delete them all).

Something to keep in mind: If you wish to transfer servers, it will cost between 800 and 1800 gems, unless you delete all your characters. Regardless of the method used to transfer, there is a 7-day cool-down between transfers. You might want to do a bit of research before choosing your Home world, to avoid any issues that could arise.

All characters (your entire account) will be associated with one (Home) server.

Ah. that was one more thing i was wondering. whether transfering costed real money or ingame. Gems can be obtained in the game as well? or have to be bought through IRL money?

Gems can be bought with real money or bought with in-game gold.
