Q:

See, I really like the look of the Medium armor costumes skins in the store but it does say “can only be equipped by characters that wear medium armor” which I don’t.
if that is the case, that kind of sucks =/ I mean, personally I don’t like the look of any heavy armor skins in the store, but a few medium and light armor skins look absolutely amazing.
It’s not like being able to skin heavy armor to look like medium armor would be game breaking in any way, since they all only serve a cosmetic purpose in the game. Some might say “be a thief” or something, which I could. But I want to wear assassin themed clothes whilst lugging around a massive Greatsword, I’ve seen it preview and with that particular skin it looks like that combination was just made for one another. Plus, all other classes just aren’t my play style =/

Which explains the baffling and skimpy armor that counts as heavy on female humans. This rule made sense before they added the indicator on every player that gives away their class, now it is just an archaic and pointless restriction.

The three armor classes have different construction and fitting for how all the pieces work together. Mixing them would result in horrid clipping, naked spots, and other problems.

Having different frameworks allows them to a create a broader range of styles with fewer technical issues. For example: players can’t try to pair a long coat with a billowy robe/skirt, so they have more freedom when designing either element.

You say that like its not true within armor weight categories now .

Or you could let players use all he tools and decide for themselves what degree of clipping is tolerable or avoid it entirely by their choices.

We used to be able to mix armor weights in the preview screen and the potential was a thousand-fold greater than what we have now. the problem was sometimes the skins glitched, and it was actually quite EASY to correct that by reapplying the glitched item to the preview – it could always be corrected in “one move”. If that one move could be automated, we’d at least have that functionality back. Being able ot actually wear those mixes in the world and not just the preview screen would be almost too awesome to contemplate…

A player’s experience of how attractive the game is isn’t based solely on their own character. Many people would not bother with or even know about the ways to fix their clipping, with the result being that every time you run into other players, you are assaulted with bad armor pairings that make the whole game look glitchy and poorly designed.

By taking it into their own hands and exercising control to remove bad combinations, the devs are maintaining the asthetic integrity of their product.

I can understand with the whole mixing heavy costume pieces with light armor pieces could well cause horrible clipping issues and probably other graphical problems. But it wouldn’t take a genius to figure out that mixing heavy cosmetics and light cosmetics will cause issues on top of it just, not looking right O_o
I don’t think it’d take much to implement a warning when you mix them saying something like "warning, wearing “bla bla light armor with bla bla heavy armor could cause graphical issues such as clipping bla bla” you get the gyst.
It just think it’s a little game breaking that I personally think all the medium armor cosmetics look much better than heavy armor cosmetics (in my opinion) some people might not really care about the look of their character and more about the world around them but that doesn’t cater for the others that do care about the look of their character, after all. that’s why cosmetics existed in the first place, right?
For me this just feels like I have to sacrifice something in order to get the experience I want from the game. In order for me to get the cosmetics and the look I want for my character I have to be a thief, or another class that wears medium armor. But for that I can’t play the style I enjoy and I can’t wield a Greatsword, I could also play a Mesmer, enjoy the look of a Greatsword on light armor cosmetics and suffer the horrible gameplay a Mesmer has a Greatsword (I will point out that what I say about Mesmer Greatsword gameplay is entirely opinionated, it’s just personal preference really)

Ranger is medium armor and can wield a greatsword. Not saying it’s a favourite (I prefer sword/dagger with my Ranger) but you can wield one.
