I love getting more options, but my biggest issue with hearing about those new things, how much use/effectiveness will they have with this berserker meta/mentality? what if those weapon options end up being less desirable in dungeons because this and that weapon is ultimately the best? Is Arenanet planning to look into this, or are they launching all these new things without any considerable changes to what we already have?

That is my only serious concern about this expansion, loving the idea of a new area and the way the storyline is going otherwise! Not trying to dig at the game, it is just that I didn’t hear anything about that during the announcement and presentation.

Don’t join speed run and you wont have meta problem.

If, with the current options, the game isn’t balanced, what makes you think that by adding even more options ArenaNet will be able to balance it at all?

All the issues you mentioned will likely become worse once the expansion hits. Everyone and their mothers will play as a Revenant at first, it will likely be overpowered (so people have more of an incentive to buy the expansion), and soon people will settle down on a new meta. Still fueled by berseker only, of course.

I agree. That is what I currently fear, and as silly as it sounds, it surpresses my hype a bit since I still find this a glaring issue in the current game. This issue isn’t just limited to speed runs, from what I heard. with that said, I haven’t tried for a good while either, so things may have changed.

There will be something, there’s always soemthing.

What that something is might change, but they’ll come up with something.

~~

What you have to consider is that the filter is more important to people than the actual gameplay effects. They’ll find some way to exclude and denigrate no matter what.

i think what they need to do is is address the stat “Armor”, at present the armor stats means little allowing even low armor classes to ignore it n load up on power buffs (zerk)
By making the stat “Armor” affect your life span in dealing with damage mitigation more appropriatly it woul make people think twice about just ignoring it.
All low armor classes have good armor boosting skills, traits ect which would also come more into play with this and would also allow more character customisation too..

At present you can play through the game naked with little consequence, adding armor just makes it easier, damaged armor means nothing more than will nolonger see an armor skin soon (too damaged) and so on…
i beleive playing the game with no armor should be near impossible (3 or 4 hits = death), adding armor makes it playable and adding runes = customisation ie:
Playable + armor runes = Longer fights due to lack of power (dmg) but harder to die.
Playable + damage runes = Shorter fights but need to utilise skills n heals more to stay alive.
and so on…

Anet really needs to lower the effectivness of armor damage mitigation to make the number next to the stat “armor” actually mean something..
By doing this, zerk will no longer be the “goto” set but instead you would start to see, condition’s, soldier’s, boon’s & cooking itself for food buffs playing more of a role in the game – as it should.

There will always be a weapon/stat/rune combo that’s better at certain content than others. People will make it meta and will run with it.

Don’t expect new weapon types to be free of this rule. They can’t.

If here they fall they shall live on when ever you cry “For Ascalon!”

very true, but by doing the armor change the “weapon/stat/rune combo thats better” would be much wider spread and not the same for every proffession or skill setup.

At the moment its as follows, Dungeons, General PvE, Fractals, LS, PS – its all Zerk
no diversity or no customisation..
by tweaking the numbers associated with “Armor stat” the above changes creating diversity and customisation with a wider use of different skill/stat/rune combos being used

expecting an attempt at balance in this game seems moot judging from the responses, but nice suggestions Niteviper. Maybe one day they’ll realise, until that time I think I’ll stick to my personal story and world pvp.

Meta is Meta and there will always be a Meta that people will conform too. Nothing can change that. There will always be a most efficient way

My fear is, with Ranger’s getting Staves. We’ll have Bearstaff Rangers and it’ll be worse than Bearbows
