It appears that the LS is now going on break after one 1 month of content (http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=34881). The funny thing is that this gem of information is on 3rd party sites reposting information that Anet has given them. Why does Anet refuse to talk to their players. It is over a year since Colin has given a post about the future of GW2 (July 15 2013). And even some of those haven’t come to light (I’m looking at you 500 jeweler and cooking and precursor crafting). The game feels like it has no direction, and it feel like they are just trying to waste time. Balance update is now being dragged out over 8 weeks to preview what changes are being made, and it unknown when it will be released after the previews are over. The only goal they said they will add for this year is they will fix how guild handle multiple servers after messing that up with the megaservers.

Anet use world of month to get out what they are doing this has not changed from when GW2 started.

I guess they could just throw updates out for balance but that tends to be very bad for the comunitly and is counter to there ideal of what balance is (slow over time changes not fast ones.)

Do you even know what you want and what it means to the game to get what you want? Think about your views and what they mean for other parts of the game.

Main : Jski Imaginary ELE (Necromancer)
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)

I think you’re doing your math wrong. With 4 updates every two weeks, that’s 2 months worth of content for the Living Story.

That’s not to say there’s not going to be updates until the fall, though, just no more updates to the Living Story. I wouldn’t be surprised if we had a festival-style event like Zephyr Sanctum or Dragon Bash in the meantime.

Call me crazy, but I’m beginning to suspect that someone doesn’t want this game to last very long (maybe NCSoft upper management?) or the management within Anet is getting a little haywire. Or perhaps it’s simply of case of NCsoft testing their budget and the living story model is simply becoming a product of “how many players can the game keep with spending as little money, dev time and resources as possible?” Which is doesn’t make much sense at all, considering that Anet has around 400 employees now.

Either way, two years in and the situation is starting to look very worrisome. I never had an issue with LS segments before, but hearing the news that we’re now midway through this season with another break coming leaves me concerned. I can only hope they’ll announce some very, very important announcements during this mid-season break, like a new race, new dungeons, the new pvp mode they’re working on and so on, because now it looks like the current season is going to fall short. Which is a shame, since so many felt it was off to a good – or at the very least, better start.

It does seem a little lacking… They worked for almost 8 months and all we get is 4 releases?

That doesn’t bode well for the future of this game…

I can only hope they announce something soon, but really it’s been two years. In two years we’ve gotten 2 zones, fractals, some pvp and wardrobe changes, a few new world bosses, some grindy weapon skins, no new races, no new weapons, no new classes, one new dungeon path (but no new dungeons,) a new WvW map, no new in-game armor sets that aren’t rewarded outside of LS rng and grind, ascended gear (which is also a grind) and some new minis. Meanwhile this is all between some recycled or temporary content, and of course the breaks.

One year of waiting for future promises is totally understandable. A year and a half is excusable. Nearly 2 years in, and these promises are starting to lose their merit. They really need to announce something major, and soon.

I am (was?) an avid defender of the Guild Wars franchise [Except Anets constant choice to nerf Mesmers]. I love the game, the combat, the graphics, almost everything.

But I’m getting a but weary myself of this little by little stance they have taken with the game.

GW2 has the potential, and a lot of us see it.

Going with the restaurant analogy, it’s as if Guild Wars 2 has all the ingredients it needs to become a 5 star restaurant, but yet they serve the customers little cheeseburgers and fries instead of the more “packed” and “luxurious” options.

As I commented in another thread, mid-season may not necessarily mean half-way. There may be more than one mid-season break, as what other term would be appropriate for a break amid/during the Season. The Devs did say the new Season would be made up of more self-contained story arc parts.

I would expect there to be some kind of break as the Second Anniversary is in ~2 weeks.

Still, until the Season is complete, only ArenaNet knows right now absolutely what will transpire. /shrug

Breaks are good! It allows people to catch up and digest the content and developers can spend time thinking about future content. Rapid fire two week releases regardless of situation is why the first living story season was so lackluster.

And while not perfect, season two has proven to be of a higher quality. So I think this is a good way to approach things.

I was under the impression that it was supposed to be their “Birthday Celebration” break. If they’re taking a couple weeks off for that, then they must have something in mind for us. (After all, not eveyone’s characters were created on GW2’s birthday, so not everyone will be getting presents at this time.) I suspect some light-hearted quests for miscellaneous birthday rewards available to all.

And I could be wrong.

I never saw “mid-season” myself, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’re exactly halfway finished. (I hope).

Then maybe ANet should design some content I want to play, versus an hour long story and then a bunch of achievements for me to not do, and a backpiece for me to earn and then put in the bank and forget about.

Even if we had just four episodes until now, I kind of don’t mind. I think this season is about ten times the quality of the first one, so in my eyes they can take as many breaks as they want. I always prefer quality over quantity, as long as the current story stays as engaging as it is, I won’t complain. I didn’t try any of the new story achievements yet, so if I want to, I’ve got plenty of new challenges to do during the break.

Last season I luckily had time to check out all the story parts, but missed out on quite some achievements that I would have liked to try, as well as the Molten Facility dungeon (I was happily surprised that it’s now a fractal! <3). For me it’s so much better that I can now do stuff like that whenever I like, without pesky limited time windows.

see Im kinda looking at it like this … this is the mid season finale of LIVING STORY. Which doesn’t mean necessarily that its the end of game updates. I’m actually hoping to see something like this happen.

In two weeks instead of another living story update we will get a 2nd anniversary thing. (August 26th)

2 weeks later we will see a feature update, and maybe SAB returns to give them time to iron out any bugs from the feature update. (September 9th)

Another 2 weeks and we could see the end of the WvW season and a update to ready for the next season. (September 23rd)

Then October 7th living story returns with the beginning of fall.

There is going to be something for WvW for once… They were taking videos from players to make a WvW Feature Trailer, so I am crossing my fingers and hoping the Living Story break will come with a WvW/Balance Patch (Beginning of September). If I remember correctly, they wanted to tie WvW in with the new Living Story this time. So maybe the Mists will be involved in feeding the Dragon somehow… Who knows… Lol.

They’re probably just letting this game die slowly. The lack of WvW updates, having to fight the same matchups for 8 weeks in a row, megaservers and goal-less EOTM has fragmented the community to a point where most people are getting burned out. ON top of that even the new PvE content is lacking. Beside the new part of a zone everything feels like it’s been developed 2 years ago. Story wasn’t bad for the first 2 episodes of season 2 but then it became a snooze fest of waypointing.

Unless they can pull a rabbit out of a hat and show us that this LS was just the introduction to a complete expansion it’s easy to predict what will happen when the Fall games are released in the next months.

To be honest I was expecting much more than this when I bought the game, even if I’ve had an amazing time with it. GvG like in GW1 never came and I believed I would have new areas to explore in PvE like every months instead of once a year.

It’s just sad to see wasted potential.

The amount of speculation in this thread is unreal. No evidence of everything, and everyone is making stuff up. People are saying we’re not getting an update in two weeks. Maybe, maybe not. What we’re definitely not getting is a living story update.

And it’s funny. It’s the same people who say they don’t like the living story that are complaining it’s not coming out in another 2 weeks. One would have thought those people would be happy.

Of course, a big part of this is Anet’s fault for not communicating. In the absence of fact, people will make stuff up to fill the void. The bigger the void, the more stuff will be made up.

I’d wait till next Tuesday and see if we get our annoucement before assuming there’ll be no update in two weeks. Who knows it might be the kind of thing people who don’t enjoy the LS are complaining about.

Took the words out of my mouth. Once again all of this is starting to give me an impression that someone higher up wants the game to die off… Which doesn’t really make much sense, considering that GW2 is one of, if not – NCsoft’s most popular NA MMO at the moment, with a newly added dev team of 400 people total.

I heard that the dev team didn’t answer any player questions or complaints regarding the game’s future at Gamescom either; that definitely doesn’t bode well. Really hoping that Anet proves us wrong eventually, because it’d be such a shame to see a game with this much potential die young.

Once again all of this is starting to give me an impression that someone higher up wants the game to die off… Which doesn’t really make much sense, considering that GW2 is one of, if not – NCsoft’s most popular NA MMO at the moment, with a newly added dev team of 400 people.

I heard that the dev team didn’t answer any player questions or complaints regarding the game’s future at Gamescom either; that definitely doesn’t bode well. Really hoping that Anet proves us wrong eventually, because it’d be such a shame to see a game with this much potential die young.

Let’s be logical for one second. You called it. Guild Wars 2 is one of NCsofts most popular games. It’s still making money as of last quarter. No company just abandons their most popular product. We already see signs that Wildstar is slowing down and it’s only out a couple of months. It’s taken a big hit already.

So what is NcSoft going do to, really? Abandon Guild Wars 2.

Businesses plan stuff over months and even years, not weeks. Things like expansions. They make annoucements when they do when it makes sense to make them. Now if the game is still earning money at a constant rate, they have less reason to make annoucements. Anet is tracking who logs in and for how long they play. And how many players log on.

So much panic from people who really have nothing to go on. All we really have to go on is NcSoft quarterly reports, which show the game profitable, and stuff like Raptr which shows that the game has pretty much remained in the top 20 games (not just MMOs games either) since release. That’s not easy to do. ESO has already fallen off the top 20 and it’s much newer. Why would anyone abandon this game? It makes no real sense.

The problem is Anet isnt’ telling us what’s going on. That’s the problem. But you know, if Anet is still paying voice actors to do voices for content that comes out every two weeks, that says something too. Voice actors don’t come cheap. You don’t let games die and then pay voice actors lots and lots of money.

Anet needs to say something. That much is certain. Too many people with too much time to worry about what’s not happening, not because it’s not happening, but because Anet hasn’t said anything. That’s why I posted a thread about Anet needs to have someone talking to us.

But realistically, when SWToR wasnt’ doing as well as it was supposed to half the staff was laid off. When TSW didnt’ do as well as it was supposed to, a third of the staff was laid off. If that happened, we’d hear about it. It’s not happening. The game isn’t dying. There’s no reason to believe it’s dying.

Lack of information doesn’t mean that nothing is happening.

I hope something big is being worked on – 2 years for planning is long gone – LS is just too stale to keep some in-game. It takes 1 day to finish a new LS chapter. Content is very small to justify this long of a wait for an expansion.

What?! The Dry Top map is so massive, it’s like they’re squeezing water out of dry rocks! You should be like “whoa, ANet, slow down! You’re releasing too much content again!”.
On a more realistic note, I think it took them over a year to get this map developed (it around one year for the EotM map), so their big project on display.
Here, right now.

Interesting theory. It may be one of the things they were working on. But since Anet did say they had multiple teams working on big projects, it might not be all of them. I suspect it’s not.

problem is more like people wait for CONTENT since livingstory 1 ends for 8 months and now we had only stupid cutscenese and textlines for another 2 months and they make a break …..

here is nothing to do in this game and no hope it will be better someday and arenanet afk

You and I count time differently. LS1 was over on April 1st. LS2 started on July 1. That’s 3 months, not 8.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

Map development is a big task for them. Not a theory. It’s a fact.
And of course they’re working on multiple projects, big and small.
Fact is this was a big project for them.

You say in your first post “so their big project is on display”. In any English I know, that means this is their one big project. You may not have meant it, but you certainly said it.

If you think there might be more, it might have been better to say this was one of their big projects (which might or might not be the case).

Wow…smh.
Is your fanbase really that dumb to need such a clarification? Jesus.
This is their big project on display.

Feature Pack will release on September 9, and LS will continue some time after that.
