It’s probably going to be available for candy corn this year at Halloween, at which point they will introduce a new super rare mini that can only be obtained from the bags.

I completely disagree, why should everything rare be available for purchase? Why should someone with great wealth be able to buy anything and everything in the game? This is Guild Wars 2, not collection wars 2 or trading post wars 2. This comment doesn’t just apply to Gwynefyrdd, but to all the other items that were only awarded during one time or special events. Some of us have played the game for 3 years now, some of us have gotten exclusive items that were part of content that will never return. Why should someone that didn’t get it then or just joined the game be able to just buy it now? That simply invalidates the time we invested back then to get the items.

Agreed with Gator…even though I’m frustrated by minis they won’t re-release:

Just to add to my previous post, I don’t have this stance because I have Gwynefyrdd, there are many other items that I don’t have and will never get. I got Gwynefyrdd after only about 1,000 bags. I have probably opened 20-25k since then trying to get the poly-refractor and I never saw another Gwynefrydd. I would assume that it has not been removed from the drop tables and is still available. Maybe someone that has gotten one recently can confirm. So all that can be said is that if you want it that bad, keep trying.

I agree that there should be an alternative way to obtain this mini.

I don’t mind having to work for them (I’ve got the mini Liadri, mini llama, I’ll have the clockheart when I get around to doing the last 3 achievements, got the dolyak from the 1st WvW tournament etc.) but the problem with this one is it’s completely random whether you get it or not.

I know of one person who only opened 25 bags and got one, while others have opened thousands and not gotten one. It’s possible (somewhat unlikely but possible) for someone to keep trying indefinitely and never get one at all, not because they’re too lazy or cheap or whatever to try but just because they don’t get that one lucky roll of the virtual dice.

They could use a system similar to the mini Bloody Prince Thorn and the Holo Wings and charge 20,000 candy corn, or whatever. 10 candy corn cobs + 10 high quality plastic fangs + 10 gibbering skulls + best nougat centres. Whatever. Just something so there’s a cap on the RNG and after however many thousand bags you will be able to get one.

Why on earth does someone else having an item in any way “invalidate” anything you could have possibly done? This post is basically “because I already have it, so I don’t give a kitten about those who don’t.” Your need for exclusivity is a character flaw, and you should do some self examination.

OP, I don’t collect minis, but I can definitely sympathize. I’m sitting at 12/17 Fractal weapon skins with little to no hope of ever finishing the collection.

This is a classic example of “bad” RNG. Every time you open a bag and don’t get the mini you want, it’s a bad feeling. Now, if you got some token with every bag, and you could turn in a few thousand of these tokens for the mini, that would be much better. Designers can then introduce “good” RNG where bags have rare chance to simply drop the mini. This way you have measurable progress towards your goal, and there’s still tension each time you open a bag. Gating item acquisition behind pure RNG is lazy design.

I’m not saying no one should be able to get it, the method I used to get it as well as everyone else that has it, is still the same. Open the ToT bags and hope for luck. I am saying that the way of getting it does not need to change.

“My need for exclusivity?”, not even close. It’s everyone’s thoughts of self-entitlement. I didn’t play the game back then or I’m not lucky enough to get it like everyone did, is not a reason to change how it is acquired.

I don’t think ANet should make a change for Mini Gwyn. However, I think they do need to be more consistent in the future:

  • If an item has a miniscule drop rate, it should be tradeable, not bound.
  • If an item is account bound, there should be a way to make use of the extras.

The drop rate for the poly-luminescent jewels is just about as low as it is for mini Gwyn. The difference is that you can save up to buy one (or someone who is lucky can sell, if they don’t want it), whereas with the mini, you can’t.

This doesn’t justify the horrible, horrible droprates at all. I have one but I hated every hour I put into the game to get it. I didn’t have fun with halloween because it was always a “you have to farm now” thing. You can’t compare the speed of bags farmed atm – It’s far harder or more expensive than on halloween.

Now, sure I could have ignored it but the only things I really wanted to collect are minis. I was at a point where I lacked like 3 minis including gwynn… I felt forced to farm him. That’s why I hated it.
And I hated it even more when they started to force me into pvp with the god kitten llamas. Tbh they can take all new minis and put them somewhere where the sun never shines by now.

Do I sound bitter? I sure am when it comes to minis.

Opened 50,000 ToT bags; got the mini at around 8,000 at the time of release, along with 2 orange poly refracs.

I may do another round in hopes of maybe a different poly refrac or so. But yeah, in a way I wish this mini was tradable so those with doubles could give them to friends.
