I don’t mind adventures. I mean, they aren’t exactly what I’d call exciting content, but they’re certainly better and less braindead than heart quests.

Seriously, I loved the fact that Orr, LWS2 and HoT didn’t have heart quests. I’m so sad to see they brought hearts back in LWS3 and PoF, and made them repeatable! Ugh!

Adventures were not the problem. Some are kinda fun and it’s something else to do in game.

The problem is locking mastries behind them with time limits tanking all the fun out of them and making it very frustrating to do.

There;s nothing wrong with adding adventures. Some people enjoyed them. Its only a problem if these are also locked for any amount of time related to a map meta. If its a single localized event that is quick enough to do and not on a timer that locks them, then its fine.

I liked the adventures first time around. Some I did several times for fun.

I don’t have an issue with a mastery behind them, but I believe the mastery should be for something like just trying them out. You enter the Adventure, you finish one attempt, or maybe three attempts, and you get the mastery point.

That way it rewards people for at least trying out the content and doesn’t punished them for not being able to complete it in a timed scenario.

Several HoT ones were pretty simple, others caused problems for me.

Oh I hate having to do adventures for masteries or important content. I will never get Glint’s Bastion because of Sanctum Scramble. Ditto for the mastery associated with it.

I don’t understand the point of having them, either. If I want this sort of content I can get it in all sorts of places. It doesn’t advance the GW2 story at all, it breaks the narrative and diverges from the greatest strength of GW2 – ad hoc cooperative game play. It simply just does not make sense.

But to be fair I don’t care if there are adventures in the game so long as I can get everything in the game without having to do any. Otherwise I’ll be unhappy.

So long as there are many more MP than are needed to max out masteries, I don’t care if some are hidden behind adventures which I will never do.

I’m not happy specialisation weapons appear to require adventures again though. Sanctum Scramble was nearly the end of me, needing to be 4s ahead of the timer because that’s how long the gates were taking to register I’d passed through them.

Exactly. That’s why I hate them. They are so kitten boring they make me want to cry. lol. But it seems if you want to identify all those unidentified gears you have to do hearts to unlock the vendors for them. And I’m betting they reset daily so you have to do the heart every single time. The joy. I am so looking forward to that. /s

So right off the bat PoF has two disappointing features for me, hearts and adventures. Hopefully, the good will outweigh the bad. Or the bad will be totally optional at least.

At least at the moment they do reset daily. I don’t mind hearts. Some are better than others, and some are zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. The reset issue annoys me because it either forces me to redo hearts or it forces me to race to get map completion so as not to repeat the hearts.

Personally I like meta event maps like Orr, Dry Top, SW, and HoT maps. Stuff I can jump into whenever – I think though they need to fix the reward pacing more so that jumping in and out whenever isn’t as damaging. HoT maps right now are a scramble at 10 mins to the start of the main meta with nothing happening before hand because the main event is so much more rewarding.

In HoT I never managed to grind any of the minigames above Bronze, and even Bronze I did only because they added mastery points. The adventure in PoF beta I tried was slightly different but if it does not give MP then I will never play it in real game.

If you did not play the adventure, here is how it worked:
- You are running on the mount
- You had very tight time limit to visit 6 NPCs in very large part of the open map
- The NPCs were chosen randomly from larger possible group (I think)
- You can see direction to each target on your screen but NO distance
- It is only possible to finish this within given time if you visit NPCs in correct order
- So, you must decide on correct path before starting to run
- Because they are randomly chosen the path is different each time (I think)
- Because you run in open world you can still get hit with random mobs, slowing you down
- You HAVE to know exactly how to get to each NPC before starting the adventure, some of them are located in places accessible only from certain direction

The time limit felt very tight to me, and I failed it of course. But the HoT adventures were equally horrible so I was not surprised. I am sure if you really want, you can do this in time, just for me there is no reason to do it.

The NPCs and their locations are always the same, so not knowing the distances or the best direction to approach them becomes a minor issue.
I also failed on my first attempt, but ended up getting gold after some tries. Time limit feels tight for gold, but I guess will get better with more mount masteries.
It also looks like you can unmount and use skills freely, so characters with good teleporting skills might have advantage if they can handle the mount/unmount thing fast.
I’m mostly concerned about portals. Have not tested if they’re viable or not, but you could save ridiculous amounts of time at some spots by external aid, moreso if you could have several mesmer friends along the full path. I guess it’ll not be a completely bad thing for an MMO, but kinda defeats the purpose of the leaderboards.

I don’t hate adventures if there are no MP gated behind them and if i have not to run within a time limit. I was so frustrated with some of this arcade gaming like stuff in HoT wich was needed for the ascendet elite weapons. I hate to do things within a short/close time limit. If there would be no need to do this i would enjoy them for some variety to the usual gaming things.

I don’t want to get the MP served on a silver tablet but i think it would be a better way you can get em also on an other way. Maybe one point for doing it without a timelimit. Give 2 or 3 points to the ppl who get it in time, thats just fair.

I want to relax by playing this game my whole day is full of stress and timelimits i don’t want to do this also in my leisure time.

I disliked HoT adventures because:

  • A few are so difficult that it proved useless to have a “leader board” when one could barely advance past gold to begin with
  • Not enough of an incentive (maybe reward a chunk of map currency per tier per day e.g; 25, 50, 100)
  • Time-gated behind events
  • Locking mastery points behind ALL said frustrating mechanics above

Once I got my masteries I never looked back. Sure, I still got a couple left but what good are excess HoT mastery points save for perhaps achieves? Ehh. I hope PoF proves a lot more fluid and incentive to play them.

You only need do any heart once to count for map completion and reset doesn’t have any impact. You can do individual hearts on different days and the map will keep track.

Me too. I hope they don’t lock mastery points and collections behind them this time, Achievements sure, no problems but don’t require them for progression.

Hopefully the new ones will be better and more fun. That’s all any of us can hope.

What’s so bad with that adventure? Knowing how movement skills behave with lag, I guess it’ll be rather unplayable … but other than that?
I mean, I can understand complaints about Shooting Gallery or Fallen Masks, maybe even Punch-o-Matic or Scrap Field (they changed time threshold over time, so maybe some of those are now far easier than I remember), which are all heavy RNG dependant, but it always surprises me to see Fungus among the most hated ones.

Adventures got plenty of hate in HoT. You’d think they would’ve learned. -_-

The main problems with them had been locking the mastery points behind them as a way to force or trick players into doing them, and the fact that they had buggy, untuned controls. And it didn’t help that many of them required other masteries in order to get gold/silver.

I’m hoping that the devs have had time to overcome the mistakes of the last iteration. Fingers crossed, and hopefully the new Adventures will be something remotely fun.

The reason I don’t like them and gating behind them is they are very affected by latency and rubberbanding which I have dramas with since I have to play over mobile wifi, it just makes them next to impossible for me to complete.

Despise adventures. Like, it actually makes me angry that they had masteries tied to them. So the whole “play how you want” was a bald faced lie. If I want aggravating mechanics that make playing a game more like “volunteering” for work I’ll farm rep in WoW. And the fact they kept them in suggests they are happy to move further from the “play how you want” philosophy that made GW2 so unique in the first place. Just unlock them from masteries ( and I mean retroactively, do it for HoT too). Hell, give people more unid’d items for getting gold since everyone loves id’ing gear… Seriously, stop gating things behind stupid unnecessary mechanics. Just lazy.
