i went to obsidian sanctum to do some dueling with this nice fresh build i setup and what a surprise no one is there, so i decided to go WvW roaming with my dueling build, i see a zerg and i cant run away, so i swap a trait to get more mobility, now i cant fight the other cheesey builds out there because that trait that i swaped out was my way of making these cheesy builds just another build someone is running, so i think okay kitten it ill just try to avoid those cheesy builds and i do and i finally find someone to fight but o wait ive killed him in 2 seconds because i heavily out skill him, okay okay if i want good fights and i dont want to spend 2 hours looking for one i guess ill just go to spvp annnnnddddd im ruining it for my team because i want to try and run my own build so i just decide to join a dueling room, except i cant make my build work because spvp is balanced around spvp (which im okay with) and im back to square one, sitting in obsidian sanctum waiting for some one to duel because all that effort i spent getting my expensive gear and practicing my build as best i could is for naught because there is 1 in 1000 chances i actually get to use it properly.

From the early betas to now people have been asking for dueling I would LOVE to see it added!

I believe its been said that they will be adding a dueling system into the game, its just not a high priority right now. My guess is we’ll see dueling implemented post HoT

Anet wont add duels because this community is scared of them.I was following dueling treads since the start (cause i would like them too),but yeah,community pointed great reasons why we should never have duels.Here,this is 1 of the top reasons i once read here on website – why no dueling.Ermmm lets start
1 – It does break lore !!! Yeah some1 actually said that and stayed alive…he says that this game is about aliance and not war?between each other
2 – People gonna ask for duels(even when there is option where u can deflect duel inv)
3 – People gonna duel on world bosses – like AFKing-they are doing now,is doing any better
4 – People gonna rage (like here on forums) – really?
5 – The WINNER !!! – Dont want duel cause i want to feed on your duel fanboys pain (Yes,guy actually said that)

I know this post will be deleted but dont care,im tired of this community selfishness.None game died yet cause of duels so nether would this.

Not quite. One dev said that he “definitely wanted” to have duelling in the game someday. Mind you, if i remember right, it was the same dev that once claimed that they’ll “definitely” will be raising level cap – which we know is off the table now. It was also at the same time when other devs said, that the game isn’t (and won’t be) balanced for 1v1.
The best you can hope for is 1v1 sPvP arenas with not much of a dev support. Especially since duelling is not something many people want.

They said they would think about. I just hope they do it the right way and make it so if you dont want to do it you never have to deal with griefers, that is all, no matter what kind of griefing it is. Yes ive had bad experiences with dueling, its why im so negative about it.

Id rather them implement arenas around the world that those who want to duel can go to and stay out of everyone elses way. Dont want to duel or want to see dueling? dont go to the arenas. They could also allow bets to be placed at the arenas too! That would be a massive gold sink i could see, 5-10% betting fee anyone?

Edit: Astralporing has said it pretty much correct. In each and every single dueling thread that comes up, those who dont want it outnumber those who do, almost every single time.

This is correct.

Many people dont want dueling because pve is cooperative, and the personality traits generally associated with competitive online gaming do not make an overwhelming appearance there because most progress is to everyone’s benefit. Adding a competitive aspect to this zone, especially when the game is 2/3s competitive to begin with, would bring ego and toxicity into a relatively peaceful game mode.

I have nothing against instanced arenas, but seeing as how PVP provides instanced arenas and is a gold sink besides, adding a free option seems like it would take a back seat to current tasks if it took a seat at all.

I like that too,arenas would be awesome,we could have duels like that and duel haters would not have arguments to prevent this from happening.They would still find a reason though.

Sorry I was just being silly thought the ellipsis I left would have made that clearer.

The dueling subject has been talked about alot ^^ both sides have reasons I’m just pro dueling.

1. It’s fun
2. 1v1 can be interesting to do
3. testing things would be easier with more control
4. teaching my friend how to dodge/time things would be easier then finding an empty or private arena.
5. Those that don’t want to don’t have too, just have an auto decline option.

The list continues but I think that’s enough for now

Personally, I don’t want to see dueling in game, and I’ve stated my reasoning behind that in the assorted other threads. My feelings haven’t changed on the subject.

So, wait…OP, you said you found someone in WvW to finally duel, but then lamented that you killed them as fast as you did so you somehow think that open world dueling in PvE will somehow be better?!?!?

So…. losing one trait turns you from unstoppable to just another build that can’t beat the other cheesy builds out there.

I was posting the video simply because it always gets posted in these threads. I left my comments and opinions on the issue out on purpose.

Beyond that though, my comments weren’t intended for anyone in particular, just in general.

They won’t add dueling, why? Because they want people to use there PvP game mode. Make a custom arena, and “duel” that way. That’s what ANet want you to do.

since i am anti-duel in every way, let me show you the points made with a backslash answer.

no need to test your build in PvE, that’s not a place for that, WvW is.

sorry but that’s just silly, you started out just like them and learned how, no need to spoon feed them and see them ending up failing in the long run. (life XP is stronger then book knowledge )

indeed it does, i can name countless reasons why it’s a bad idea.
at least, a bad idea in open PvE zones, there is no problem when they are in arena’s.

they could make arena’s around the world, not just for duels but also for FFA and TDM competitions.
ppl could see them going on, like mentioned before they could even bet for or against players having a way to sink and earn gold.
