what do you mean specifically by “nameplates”?

That’s what I want to know as well: what is a nameplate?

nameplates is the cure for culling.

when your computer cannot render all those players, at least you get to see their names.

I’m sure there’s a good reason why the OP posted that question.
I’m dying to hear it.

Open the Game Menu (the gear on the upper left of your screen)
Hit Options
Under User Interface click the checkboxes of any of the following that you would like to see:

• Show All Enemy Names
• Show All NPC Names
• Show All Player Names

You might consider checking the info for the Queen’s speech event that starts tomorrow.
Hint: look at the part where they say “end of culling”.

There are many form of nameplates, there is one in the game though its more a character identifier really, I think the OP is referring to having a health bar above the character head, that’s what I would class as a nameplate. (Or at least a complete one anyway)

Though I doubt the games engine can handle such a function right now….

Hum.. we do have a health bar above a character’s head.. ?
