I’m a little unsure on when it is best to salvage, sell or mystic forge rares and exotics.

If a rare or exotic sell for a lot on the TP, I sell them.

I have a lot of rares saved that don’t sell for much (they would sell for less than the current price of one glob of ecto.) Should I just salvage these or throw them in the mystic forge?

and I’m even less sure of what to do with exotics that don’t sell for much on the TP…

(these are all rare and exotic drops of various varieties— not all one type of weapon or anything.)

I haven’t used the mystic forge to a great extant, but I keep hearing people saying it’s what they do with all their low value rares and exotics.

Here’s what I do

Often the exotic is worth less than it’s upgrade rune/sigil. Salvage with a black lion kit to get extra ectos and sell it. If an exotic is crap, I will sell it anyway or if it’s a weapon I will save it up to forge it with other exotics.

If you don’t want to sell the crap exotic, it’s most likely because it’s a lower leveled piece of armor with a bad rune. You can probably mix it in with other junk armors and exotics you buy from karma/dungeon vendors and 1 exotic weapon. This gives you a chance at getting an exotic weapon which is a chance at precursor. Otherwise you should know it’s called the mystic toilet for a reason.

I salvage all rares with a mystic/master’s kit unless it’s a weapon type people are trying to forge all the time like a greatsword, shortbow, or staff and it will sell for more than the price of an ecto. I will casually collect rares that are pistols to throw them into the forge since I’m looking for the chaos gun precursor but don’t want it that bad.

Salvage greens and blues with fine salvage kits bought from cultural weapon vendors for karma.

thanks for the response. I usually use a mystic salvage kit, but i have many black lion kits for items with high value runes/sigils.

I made this post because I have been getting few ectos from salvaging recently so i was wondering if it would be better to throw all the low priced rares in the mystic forge.

So really the only low priced exotic you would put in the mystic forge would be weapons?

Weapons are the only outcome you want out of the forge because of precursors. I generally wouldn’t throw in weapons because they’re almost always worth a lot on TP because other people want to forge them themselves. Putting in 3 armors and 1 weapon gives a random roll at any type of gear, often a weapon. I would buy that weapon from dungeon token vendors because you can’t turn those into money directly.

So for some reason if you aren’t going to sell a crap exotic (which is almost always armor) put 3 crap armors into the forge and 1 weapon.
