no new system specs Path of fire no buy
as well as this is another reason why I will not be spending my hard earned money on this game at all now . until I can buy the pack for $15.00 like I did for friend of mine . that wanted to leave wow for something more better .

So you want them to up the specs so everyone has to buy a new PC to play it? Thank God you don’t run ANet. They would go out of business so fast.

Seriously ? This is an MMORPG, not a bleeding edge FPS. Not even big-name MOBAs do the kinds of things that you want this game to do.
I’m usually really sweet… but this an internet forum and you know how it has to be.
/i’m a lesbiab… lesbiam… less bien… GIRLS/
There is literally zero incentive for them to add such features.
Doing so would require lots of development time, would prevent many existing and new users unable to run the game, and would create no incentive for new people to buy the game.
Unless you’re willing to donate the $5 million or so it would cost to overhaul the engine for no profit, this is a pretty ludicrous demand.
Wow. That would put a lot of people in the position of not being able to play the game without a new computer or serious upgrades. I for one am glad they didn’t do what you want. That stuff is for single player games, not MMO’s.
Yes please do all that at the expense of content. I’ll have less to do but at least my game will look and run marginally better. /s
Thanks for summarizing the specs here, looks like my 5 years old computer is good enough to handle it, reason to pre-order today!
I couldn’t justify getting a new computer for the expansion.
Increasing the spec’s would exclude a lot of players. Not everyone got a 6700K with Gfx 1080 in SLI (as I have) Not too mention the problems with WvW. Try to run that on in 4k in SLI on an adsl connection in a 3-way fight kitten. Some things work well in theory but not so well in practice.
Dude, did you notice that PoF’s minimum specs are higher than HoT’s?
I’m playing on a 2011 decent gaming laptop, but I do not have a source of income, and the chances of me getting a decent computer in the future are slim.
I feel like Anet is already going the way of Blizzard; making it impossible for older machines to run their games as expacs are released.
I’m hoping I’ll be able to run PoF at hopefully, the same settings I currently I have on GW2. Otherwise, I could be out of game for a very long time.

4k definition is so extreme already, it barely make sense. I want to play a good game, not make an analysis of each nose hair my asura has.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”
Hawks
Actually, those specs are bumped up.
But seriously, people who don’t have monster PC’s would like to be able to keep playing.
4K is just a tool nowadays. Its just something ppl use when making movies, they scale it down to 1080 to get more detail. Not enough hardware support, and not enough ppl with fast enough connections for broadcasters to invest in it for streams either. It’s something that’s pretty much dead before it becomes a big thing.
Um… can someone, a dev or mod, clarify the minimum space requirements? It says 50 GB. Is that for all the current content?
Right now, GW2 is about 29.4 GB for its GW2.dat file (and I have HoT). I only have about 32 GB of space left on my computer… Do I actually need 50 more GB or is the 50 GB including at least the core game?

Yes, the OP’s reasoning is rather flawed. I guess he doesn’t mind paying a 4 figure amount for an expansion to deliver what he’s asking for.

I second this concern. I am not in the market where I can afford a new PC and watching everyone talk about increased specifications bothers me. I guess you can get the expansion pack but hang around core Tyria until you can update your hardware. Who wants to do that though?
At the end of the day, it is what it is. It would still be nice to be able to play the new expansion content on at least lowest of settings until I am able to trade up for something better to run the game on.

It’ll be to cover themselves. as I recall base was 20, HoT 35 and PoF 50.

That’s odd, I have HoT, and I’ve checked all my GW2 stuff, and it basically maxes out to ~30 GB in space on my computer. O_o

WoW barely upped its system specs over all these years and you want GW2 to require people to buy a whole new rig or even just parts?
no 4K support no crossfire or SLI support . as well as no multi core or ryzen thread ripper or intell I-7 8 and 10 core support
[…]
tho i will not be buying this pack . even tho i can buy the $30.00 pack or the $80.00 pack i can get it very easy BUT based on these things i outlined here . i can not honestly justify buying it at all . more so after getting burned with the last pack
heart of thorns . and so till them things happen to the new pack . i will just stick with the heart of thorns pack and call it good . till i see some real changes from this company in regards to hardware and software system support .but those that do buy the new pack hope you fully enjoy it and it brings you many good hours of fun play time .
But buddy, what’s the problem???
…does it not work for you or what?
Maybe check out drivers first. You do not need crazy setup for guild wars 2, actually you don’t need SLI for ANY game, if you’re not video content maker/ youtuber/ 2d/3d graphics designer you don’t need crazy stuff like this.
Well it’s well know issue windows sometimes can’t handle sli stuff (DirectX problems), so you could check out linux as well if you’re into ‘hardware minmaxing’. Also I think if it’s not 4k it’s not blurry enough to make you angry or even quit the game :O
Also threadripper is kinda new, so…
Do you want some better/ more graphics effects? hardware support? rendering options? cookies? what?

A lot of the newer areas of GW2 look better than older areas. The developers got more experienced at building within the engine. It’s how consoles used to work, where game developers for say the SNES learned all sorts of tricks to get as much as they could out of the hardware, with fascinating accomplishments.
Throwing more resources at something instead of getting better at optimization doesn’t really help anyone, except hardware manufacturers.
most that have commented on this post fully missed my points but that is ok .and their should be minimum specs for games . as them are all fine and good
what is not good is the fact their is no high end specs at all for this game . as well as the fact you can not run 3 or 2 even GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 DirectX 12 GV-N1080D5X-8GD 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5X PCI Express 3.0 x16 ATX Video Cards at the same time for this game

just goes to show how this game really needs to upgrade and over hall the high end system specs and I know I am not the only one that would love to play this game in 4K with 100 fps and more
but with no support for said hardware software for us high end users .. it just does not make that new shiny pack worth it. even more

What you are asking is for an engine upgrade, not a game systems upgrade. Game systems can be done by simply updating those same systems to include new features. These can include character progression systems, models and textures, etc. in a way it’s a patch really.
An engine upgrade is a whole different beast. It is usually a huge undertaking for any developer to do any sort of changes to their game engine. What you are asking is for ANet to change the architecture on which their engine is built upon. Nevermind the fact that there are no games currently that go above 4 cores, and very few that go over 2. And the fact you can’t SLI a 1080 (we don’t need the full name of the card, please don’t…) is irrelevant. Such a card is already overkill on its own, SLI is redundant.
So basically, you are complaining about something you have either never experienced, or have no need for. And we don’t need to see your chassis, this isn’t an kitten contest.
Stick to asking for 4k support, which as far as I know is actually a reasonable request. (And even that, I have seen Eyefinity setups running this game fine)
Ryzen and Threadripper are barely out of the gate, so waiting for support for them is unrealistic at best.
So what are you complaining about again? That you can’t fit your 10cm plug into a 5cm socket? Well no sh-.
How about you complain about engine optimizations eh? I remember this game during closed beta and performance wise it is a far cry from now.

Uh, don’t defrag SSDs. All it does is add wear to them. They don’t need to be defragged.
On W10 you can’t defrag SSD’s unless you use an external program. Windows does it on its own when it deems necessary to lessen the wear.
To avoid possible problems during defrag, first don’t forget to backup your copy of Guild Wars 2. To achieve this, feel free to use 1.44 floppy disks.

Yeah, do that – or preferable a “just kidding”. To the poster, the winkie-face may have implied it would solve all his/her problems. Some people outside of IT won’t get the joke. Note that I’m not trying to ruin any jovial mood you may be in!
I agree with the OP. It’s the same reason I don’t buy plants – no SLI support and requires RL support.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.

How well does GW2 run from an external thumb drive? My windows partition is not getting any bigger, but external storage is cheap.
Mate, if you want to brag about your specs then just do it. No need to disguise it as concern about the expansion’s performance. Why optimize for beast computers when they run the game on 100+ FPS anyway? Sure, you could get 120 FPS with optimization but does it really matter?

It’s going to run on the same engine and there is zero return in adding even more graphics definition. Plus many gamers are tired of the upgrade treadmill. It’s nice to have a game like GW2 that has good graphics but can still run on older machines.
Oh, and Ryzen support!? The chip has only been out for a few months and makes up less than 1% of the PC market but you want them to re-code just to support your decision to be an early adopter?
Sorry for being a bit off topic, but are there any good guides for purchasing or building a cost effective GW2 machine? I struggle to get over 30 fps during combat and would like to enjoy PoF to its fullest. Thank you.

You’re quite mistaken on games not using more than 4 cores. Several engines modern engines use 8+ now. They also run well on older machines, which is probably a lot of GW2’s target demographic. The game needs better optimization. Large raids. world bosses, and pvp suffer dramatically on any machine and that is due to this engine.
~lol!~ Nah, I didn’t mean put GW2 on a thumb drive, although you did make me smile there. I was more thinking of whether they could move off, say, a bunch of saved photographs (or even screenshots) and not a game. Photos take up a lot of space but are easily stored off the comp, right?
AHHAHAHAH, no. I have nothing like that. I’ve got a work partition that I will not sacrifice, and scratch disk I cannot sacrifice, and a small windows partition. At 50gb, if GW2 is not on a thumb drive there will be no GW2. Look on my photoshop files, ye mighty, and despair.
Forget no 4K support no crossfire or SLI support.
No Vulkan API and multi core support in 2017 is worst. Both would help performances by a large marging and developing for Vulkan is quite easy, too. It took ID Software two months to port DOOM to Vulkan. And vulkan, unlike Directx13, work on older GPUs and Windows.

Unless I’ve misread, she’s saying that you have enough room (assuming you already have the current 30gb of the game installed – core and HoT). The expansion is likely going to be at most bringing the entire game (core with expansions) to 50gb (give or take a few for wiggle room). Still, that leaves you with only ~10gb… so you should still look into getting more storage.

While I don’t see the point of asking for higher specs just for the sake of it, one issue has been brought that I’d pretty much like an official answer as well.
Gaile, can we hope for some form of proper 4k support in the future?
At the very least, I would like a way to get a bigger cursor, it’s barely visible during fights with intense effects.
Of course a UI overhaul to allow for better 4k would be great, but at least the cursor I feel is supposed that can be expected of Anet.
Thanks!
Forget no 4K support no crossfire or SLI support.
Game supports 4K and beyond. That isn’t the issue per say. The issue is the lack of support / options within the UI. Specifically around text / dialogs. It is darn right difficult to read Adding a font option and sizing would pretty much solve this issue.

It would be nice to take advantage of next generation of G/CPU compute and their respected libraries. However, someone has to pay. I get it. In fact, I’d love to see it in all of its glory. Seems easy enough to fork the code or add some logic which path to follow based on a preliminary check during update / install. Or use something like Nvidia’s GeForce Experience – it scans computer for supported games.
Would be nice – but not a deal breaker for most. And the PvE content still looks good having a 4 or 5 year old engine to boot. Not bad (but agree, could be better).

Actually Guild Wars 1 updated from DX8 to 9 in the Factions expansion so no. Not impossible.
Just to point this out…
Seeing the updated requirements is actually nice. I do hope that more of the graphics will go through my GPU instead of my CPU.
BUT, soon ANet will have no choice but jack up the requirements. Microsoft is playing a nasty game with everyone by putting out updates that cripple Win 7, 8, and 8.1 that are installed on “old” hardware and refusing to give those OSs support for the new Kaby Lake and Ryzen processors force users to Windows 10.
It’s already causing issues at work.
Linux support would be VERY appreciated with the crap Microsoft is pulling.

A DX version and technical specs on their own mean nothing.
I’d rather have devs well accustomed with the tech they use,so that they can work more on the creative aspects of the game, than changing the engine every 3 years because companies have to replace redundant and largely underutilised technologies
in order to keep their sales going.
GW2 running in DX9 performs as a multiplayer online game better than any other MMO,and still looks awesome.Definitelly better than WoW will look in DX25
As for SLI support, please tell me of an MMO where this actually works.
Even in most single player games at best the SLI drivers are set so that they won’t cause any problems, but the gain in performance when we are talking about the high end category of GPUs,is marginal.
Although not being able to play with 3 1080s truly sucks and makes everything vain.
And no 4K?

DX9 was an “evolution” of DX8. But DX10 introduced several major changes. So, upgrade a game from 8 to 9 is “easy”, but upgrade from 9 to 10 (or 11, or 12) is not. Of course, it’s not impossible, but not the same as GW1.
