My main is a 80 guardian and the class is mostly melee so I have somehow been trained to dodge and tank (why tank? Cos they always stick on me for unknown reason) most of the encounters. And I can almost 100% tank dodge champion giants and some explorable bosses. But the overall impression on dodge is like an offbeat note or a timed script button pushing rather than feeling real or fluid.
Why? Lets look at the giant. You do not dodge when his animation shows that he is stepping on you, its too late. You dodge when his foot is still raising up so when he step on u u got evaded pop on ur head. The timing and the animation just feel off. It’s like you got 100% in beatmania but all notes just sound 1 sec delayed.

Anyone feeling the same?

I found this to be the case as well, while fighting Kol. Seems like you need to dodge slightly too early for the evade.

Do you notice this issue on every dodge or just some? I am curious if maybe lag is a factor as to when the evade actually kicks in?

My thief and mesmer handle dodging okay, but I struggle with it on my warrior. I think I still have this subconscious mindset of “it’s a heavy armor class, it can take abuse” going on and forget which game I’m playing.

On my Necro when I dodge, I’ll cleary dodge the attack but get hit anyway, sometimes I even teleport back a few feet in the direction I dodged from which looks very weird (I doubt it’s lag). These are mostly from ranged attacks though.

I noticed this too when dodge tanking the giant bosses. One, you get to dodge more on the tail end of the dodge than the front. You actually even seem to get about a 1/4 second on the ground standing still.

Second, I do see that the animation timing works properly since if you watch it he raises up slowly then pounds down instantly, so you need to dodge before he starts the downward stroke since it is basically instant.

Last, this could just be an issue with lag since I cannot find a way to see my ping in game I cannot tell you how much it is affecting the dodging.

It could also be an issue with some skills (including certain boss/champion attacks) that are messing up your dodge by unintentionally interrupting it (bug?).

The more we can nail down when it happens and just as importantly, when it does not happen, the better the dev’s can find the issue.
