on a mission to get Zap
Save and buy, best investment u will make and no one gets mad.
700g isnt that bad either
700g isnt that bad either
Not really, consider bolt sales for 3100 and people are asking 2400 for it, u still make a decent amount of profit if u decided to sell it.
For the love of all that is good, do NOT use the forge. At first you’ll throw in a couple rares, and then you’ll move on to exotics, and before you know it, you have thrown in your firstborn child, your wife, and the deed to your house….. all for the sake of a slim chance to see a precursor.
Feel free to feed Trahearne to the forge, but I don’t think even the forge would take him as Trahearne would start taking credit for any precursors that pop out.
Seriously though, just save up all your money to buy it off of the TP. I lost thousands of gold to that stupid forge.
Yes save up and don’t use the forge. I remember spending so much irl money on to spend on even more rares and exotics after my in game funds ran out and I still didn’t get it >.< I was so sad and I felt like straight up quitting, so I’ll save you that pain right now SAVE
just buy it… i have throw 1- X set of rares every day since the game realised… and still have never get ANY precursor yet…
PD: i do it just so maybe one day i can experience how it feels to get a precursor….. but i dont expect it to happen

Lol u are funny man… throw in your first born. ..lol u got me there, can’t stop laughing. Trust him guys it’s true, don’t use the forge. I’ve thrown 90g worth of rares into the forge and got nothing and decide to save up ever since. I only use the forge for dailies and ascended back pieces.
I don’t know, if you have good luck, use the forge. I have good luck with staves. I throw in staves, and twice I’ve gotten the Legend. That’s good luck from what I hear.
I think I would give yourself a gold limit. And once you’ve spent, say 100g, and not gotten anything, start saving and not do the forge. See if you have luck. It’s worth a shot

Does my wife have a better chance than a random rare?
Best way is to save money while forgetting about ever getting it.
Just play the game normally.
There’s no reason to try to get one because you’ll just make yourself frustrated with bad RNG. Let all your legendary mats and money rot in the bank till you either;
1. Randomly get awarded by Dwayna with a random precursor drop when you weren’t even looking for it, or;
2. You end up having enough money to buy it.
Some people do get lucky with the Forge, but personally I’d rather not bother.
If I was going for Dusk I might be tempted but all the precursors I want are relatively cheap. The most expensive is Leaf of Kudzu which I could save up for in a few months if I really wanted to. I’ve actually had enough for Rodgort’s Flame a few times now, but I think I want to get one of the bows first. I’d probably end up spending more if I used the Forge.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Personally, if its 500g and above go mystic forge it, otherwise just buy it from TP.
Use rares, sell off the exotics you get until you get a precursor. If the precursor you’re targetting doesn’t pan out try more expensive/similar priced ones like spark/dusk/legend.
The thing is don’t go expecting to get a 700g item when you gamble only x gold<insert some obscenely low amount thrown by others here>, many people try only a little and end up buying them from the TP which just costs them more in the long run.
The prices of those things are like that for a reason. You must prepare to gamble ALOT if you wanna save gold in the long run. If you are not willing to do this, feel free to grind away to 700g.
Buy it from the trading post, dungeons are your best bet for cash.
Do Ascalonian Cata P1 and P3, and Sorrow’s embrace P1 and P3 daily. Of course try and do more but those go by pretty fast and they are easy to find a group for.
I was lucky enough to find a tooth of frostfang in one of the dungeon reward boxes
Few days ago people here told me not to use Forge, however I did, and I got my Dawn.
I ended up using around 400 Greatswords though.
If you can earn your gold quickly, save it, if, however, you don’t want to grind/farm 24/7, use gambling.
Just do forge on the days you’re feeling lucky; other days, save up until you can get it from TP (the surest way of getting one).
Definatly use the forge.
You should save up, the surest and most risk free way of getting a precursor is to simply buy it off the TP. I did so for my Dawn.
On a somewhat related note, I’ve been extremely lucky today. I confess, I came here to show it, but really, getting it as a drop is… not likely to happen. I’m a jerk. :x

congrats and my hate for you is strong… jk, but no really, its strong
If you are going to use the forge, do it with dungeon token weapons. This method will ensure that:
1. You are generating gold from dungeon runs, so you will eventually have enough to buy it outright when you realize you aren’t going to get lucky and
2. You aren’t incurring an opportunity cost on the rare/exotics you are throwing away since the tokens aren’t good for really anything else.
It’s unrealistic to save 800G for Dusk. Unless you spend tons of hours in game everyday or play the TP.
Dusk sells for 800g because that’s about the average cost to acquire it via the Mystic Forge.
If it is unrealistic to be able to save that amount to buy it then it is equally unrealistic to believe you can get it via forging.

Can you explain why Dawn is cheaper?
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
Buying it on the TP is just safest. I just cannot get around the fact that I could put 2000g into the forge, and not get the precursor, where at that price I’m quickly approaching just buying the actual legendary on the TP.
Did it suck spending 565g on dawn? A bit, but it would suck more to put in twice that on the forge. Or maybe you’ll put in 10g.
The only advice we can really give is RNG is RNG. If you don’t like that, TP it.
Can you explain why Dawn is cheaper?
It is less desirable.
Fair enough.

But if 800g on the TP is set by how much it costs to forge it (which I believe you said), then why isn’t Dawn the same price since it maybe/likely/whoknows? has the same chance as Dusk.
Read: The prices are not necessarily reflective of the effort, on average, of forging it.
Edit: Welp I guess that’s not what he was suggesting. /shrug
Well, I spent about 400g on the forge before deciding not to waste any more money on that. I really believe some people (or accounts) are lucky in this game. I am not one of them. I felt much better farming the gold and buying my precursor from the TP. I could have easily spent 5 or even 10 times more and come away with nothing at the end of it, at which time I probably would have quit the game in utter disgust. So ya, I’m all for saving up and buying it UNLESS you happen to be one of those VERY VERY VERY FEW lucky people.
Uhm…Is the Mystic Forge really that bad?
The price is a function of both supply and demand.
It is probable that both Dusk and Dawn have the same drop rate from the forge. Since Dusk is preferred, many people who obtain Dawn will sell it for what they can get for it in order to offset the cost of acquiring Dusk. This causes the price of Dawn to drop below the average cost to acquire via the forge. Dusk is more popular, thus it is likely that the current price is actually somewhat higher than the average cost to acquire via the forge, but you pay that extra premium in order to avoid gambling.

Oh, and Dusk is almost 900G at this moment, so yeah, good luck saving for that.

For the low low price of $200 a legendary can be yours today! I wonder how people feel who actually worked for it knowing that a standard 40 hour work week is more than enough to pay off 6 months of grinding in GW2.
This is why we can’t have nice things!
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.
can we talk more about zap or spark, dawn and dusk are played out

Hmmm so 400$ for my dual incinerators?
Not going to happen.
……….THIS WEEK! MUAHAHAHAHAHA.
But really I’d rather just pay…. 200$ for a precursor or 4. I don’t actually know how much gold 200$ will get me…

I’m one of those people… I spend a lot of money on my hobby. But I could never justify straight up buying a legendary.

Actually id say it was also linked to the fact that Sunrise needs 100 charged lodestones whereas Twilight needs 100 onyx lodestones that 100 charged lodestones eats up the difference in pre cursor prices right there.
