From what I have read, you can only get the Aetherblade Armor from the Gemstore.

My first response is what the hell? Why can’t I earn the armor skins by doing objectives?

Yes, anyone can buy gemstones via in-game gold, but when all skin content has to be obtained by grinding and farming gold it becomes extremely boring and disappointing.

I am really disappointed in Anet’s decision to not challenge the player. I guess that is the logic behind this. Anet is afraid to challenge the players so they put everything on the gem store so anyone can just grind their way or spend cash. I don’t really blame them. If they made content or a challenge there would be players crying on the forums.

There really is no such thing as a challenge anymore in MMOs. Its just a grind.

Or would you prefer RNG? Up with the patch already its the 25th.

complete it 3 times and you can afford 100 gems.

I’ve seen leaked pics of that stuff. I am a mix ‘n’ match armor wearer, and I don’t see a single piece there I care for. (I only saw human female, so that may change). But then again I never understood Steam Punk, and never thought it really had much of a following. (Back when it still had a following).

I just hope that in the future that new armor skins are actually obtained through content. Why can’t things be structured like dungeon tokens or something? At least dungeons are easy enough for anyone to get what they want quickly without grinding for days on end. If not then I guess grind away.

I think that’s sort of the purpose. These temporary events keep people in game by constantly giving them something to do. If everyone didn’t have a chance to work toward these items, and it was gated to only people who could accomplish a certain difficult task, not as many people would be engaged in the activities of the living story, and may not be as motivated to log in and play.

However, there is something for people who like challenge, the monocle will only be available to the people who complete the new living story dungeon, among other things. (well, kinda, they have a random chance of getting it)

dungeon armor are grinding anyway what’s the difference in thousands dungeon tokens and gems? you only get tokens in dungeon and gold everywhere else (including dungeon)

u get 1 token (1 gold++) per run
no limits.

say you do 3 runs per day and get 3 gold + which is enough for 100 gems.

how much tokens u get per dungeon path? about 69
do 3 paths per day u get 207 tokens
after 5 days of 3 paths per day u get 1035 tokens
that is not enough for a full set.

And how many new armors does the average MMO add through standard patching? None or close to it, no? I understand that you want new stuff through content, and frankly so do I. But I understand that the new dungeon sets or whatever are probably being reserved for expansions; just like with every other MMO. Guild Wars 2 isn’t even a year old yet, so just wait a bit. There is already talk of an expansion, and one so soon is basically unheard of in the MMO genre.

Until the expansion comes out I am fine with trading in some gems for a new skin, and can’t wait to get my heads on the med-armor top from this new set for my human/male/engineer.

when you do normal dungeon explorable paths for tokens for the dungeon armor, you are not grinding away?

you get max 207 tokens per 3 paths per day, or a bit more if you do them the second time but due to diminishing returns you get less tokens per completion on 2nd runs and above.

This is the content that supports the game you should be happy about. No rng boxes, cartel packs, gambling, town clothes. You even have the option to pay w/ingame gold. This is a step in the right direction.

Or you could look at it from reality’s stand point, that people keep complaining there’s not enough in game earnable without gold cosmetics and this is their answer to that?

Yeah I agree with the OP, hiding the steampunk behind the gem store is just wrong on so many levels. It’s pretty much clear now what their goals really are, it’s not to improve the game’s fun level it’s to improve the profits at all costs including their playerbase.

If you can actually just buy it for x amount of gems from the shop then I’m all for it. At least I know how much I am paying for what I want to buy. If they want a source of revenue then this is one of the ways I can deal with.

This is a trend I have noticed:

“I hate RNG. Put it in the gem store so I can just buy it.”
“It’s in the freaking gem store. They should be rare drops in game.”

I agree on one issue since some say they want certain items made available to award player skill. Put some items (not tradable, one time drop) locked behind some ridiculously hard task/dungeon or what ever (not something that can be face rolled in 20 minutes). This would make use of player skill to acquire. Of course then some would complain that it is too hard to get. The other problem with this is many players would get left behind if it was a group event. The more people that have acquired the desired item the less players available for partys because the people that already ahd them would not want to do it again. There is never going to be a win/win I’m afraid.

A simple solution to your problem is to buy Gems with real money. That takes away all the grind you’re complaining about.

So 500 gems which is about 15g currently. It will be 25g when the patch is released. I will skip this one, I don’t really like the armor all that much although it would be good for engineers.

Personally I am fine with gem armor as long as its not hidden behind rng boxes. If he armor ends up costing say 800 gems you would only have to pay only around 24g, which is still way cheaper than sentinel armor and only slightly higher than crafted boxed armor.

Would Anet drive itself into debt until release, hoping that millions of players would buy the game? I could tell you all about profit:consumer’s price. For example, for every $60 from consumer Anet profits $25. You act like Anet has millions of employees and the whole west coast to take care of. NCsoft get its cut.

I’m pretty sure Anet is in the black for a while because of initial box sales. Those who put lots of money into the gemstore just feeds Anet’s greed.

Of course you know this, but I would just try to get enough gold to convert to gems if anything. It’s probably around 3g per 100 gems right now. If the armor is 800 gems, you are looking at just over 24g. I sold holo wings for 26g at the beginning of the dragon bash alone. I have about 3g to my name right now, but that is a totally different story.
I would be happy enough if they are a direct purchase and not RNG. I don’t like the armor skins anyways, so I don’t have to worry about this.

That exchange rate will absolutely explode when that armor hits the market and people start cashing in their gold.

You’ll have to grind considerably more if you don’t have the gold already and get your gems now.

I don’t think the exchange rate will change that much. Not that many people will like the armor enough to spend 20g+ on it.

I have nothing againt armor skins in gem store, I just don’t like the design. If they put the GW1 armors into the shop there are a bunch I would buy. Probably not for $$ though, I only do that for character slots, bank slots(too bad I already have the max) and possibly inventory slots.

These will cost either 15g or 25g(using current exchange rates). I’ve noticed that each dungeon path is around 1g(doesn’t seem to matter which dungeon) so that is around a week if someone does 3 paths each day. This is about the same amount of time it takes to get a full armor set from a dungeon using tokens assuming 60-69 tokens per run.

Wildstar looks like it will make money too. Maybe not as much as GW2. But some of Wildstar’s money will go towards a GW2 expansion.

Anet has teams working on large content expansions that were 6 months to a year out as of April. Stuff we haven’t seen, heard about, or could even begin to speculate on other than it might involve the next big dragon.

Who do you suppose is paying for the salary and resources to support a team that is working on content that far out, as well as the RD workshop that experiments with new concepts, some of which we see (SAB) and some we don’t?

I think some people that don’t understand the business side of things or software development in general watched a speculative video on youtube and have giant misconception of how things work.

That aside, finally non-rng event skins. And armor sets at that. I think i’ll need to buy two of each set after months of spending nothing on mystery chests, to show support for the decision.

Because, the dungeon is for the mini, the Monocle, and the potion. Not for new gear. They also want the new gear to not just be dungeon gear…anyone who either wants to pony up the $$ for gems to buy it can, but also anyone who wants to have earned 36ish gold can also obtain it that way, from any play experience that they earn it from (excluding sPvP).

Any proof to your wildly crazy accusations? Because right now they sound like the ranting of an Area 51 + Bigfoot + Ancient Aliens believer.

Money related to Guild Wars 2 is divided up into production costs and profit. Now, production costs goes to new content, employees’ paychecks, and even possible whiteboarding for an expansion. The profit side, those that don’t go into those things, is what’s called “NCSoft’s take”, which goes to their Yearly Earnings report as good money for their company (and stockholders get happy).

BUT…..the content for Guild Wars 2, and it’s consistently hardworking developers, gets paid for. Don’t assume it doesn’t. They don’t work for free, and the money is not funneled into a completely different project with completely different developers. If that was even remotely true, they’d walk out of the offices instead of standing in front of a camera singing the Dragon Bash theme song….

After the last round of RnG boxes for skins I would think that this is a huge improvement.
As for content providing skins-Sure- that would be great too- and they have been, think of the backpacks we have had with the last couple of living Story updates.
