It would be cool to be able to delevel to level 1.

This would not remove any skills or ablities etc or storylines or achievements, but instead locks them out…no skill points are lost they are simply gained automatically again. Or, they are kept and only the level 1 appears again.

There’s something about the idea of being level 1 and actually being level 1 that is very appealing. You would restart at the beginner stage.

Nope. You miss the point. It’s the same name and character appearance etc. You keep everything and achievements I even say this in op right before your eyes. Plus if your slots are full then you can’t

Sadly, it will never feel like during the betas and launch four years ago, when we used green items and felt mega strong for obtaining level 30-ish rare helmet from doing AC sometimes I browse through the bazilion screenshots i took and let the nostalgia flow through me

That’s also not what I’m expecting. It’s a very realistic, practical suggestion.

And your point wasent missed since you can do all but keep the same name with a new character, your old wont lose any progress in story your ap is account wide etc.

Since they sell character slots and you can have up to 71 I belive.

What would be their gain in allowing you to do this ( I cant for the life of me see them gaining anything on this) and how can you justify the dev time that get in my oppinion wasted on said feature?

Hmm. I think I rather have a prestige system. But then everyone would ToK the way up, more so then now, unless they make them useful for the first 80 levels.

This could add a lot of replayability. They could make it so everything remains the same except stats and level are reset to 1 (can still use all ur old gear/skills). This can increase traffic to all the old maps; every level up reward could be a requirement that’ll add a small account-wide boost of some kind at the end (extra gold find/increased gathering critical/etc). Maybe have those rewards be combined with something else for some cosmetic item; add another gold sink.

hm, farming I suppose? There are a few situations where leveling up is counterproductive, but none of these really justifies that option. Erasing a character and starting it again, can do the same in no time. Getting to 80 is not that much difficult, neihter getting to any specific level.

On the other hand, a subclass system would bring some replay value imho. Having multiple classes on the same character, every new starts from level 1. But, that would also make the additional character-slot redundant and so remove a money source form ANet.

Unless you have 64 full character slots, you can just roll a new character. I really don’t see the point in this. This just seems like a “i want to level, but i don’t want to pay for a slot.”

There isnt a point to this. If you want to be level 1 again purely for the sake of being level 1, just make another character.

If you don’t want to feel powerful, switch to weak armor (or no armor, using outfits if you don’t want to look silly,) and leave the rest to downscaling. You might never be underleveled for an area, but with sufficiently lousy armor, you can probably get close. If you want to feel like a beginner again, that’s going to be hard to do in the same character, in the same class.

It seems like a lot of trouble to make a system for this, when it doesn’t seem (to me) like something that would get a ton of use solely for nostalgia’s sake. I think this idea is trying to recapture that feeling when everything is new, and just dropping to level 1 isn’t enough for that.

Indeed — it would be a huge amount of effort’s on ANet’s part to satisfy what amounts to a psychological preference to a nerfed old character over a new character, with exactly the same features.

I get that people get attached to their characters, spending so much time with them. I don’t, however, agree, that we should divert resources from other game improvements to cater to that preference.

If there was a leader board for lvling up (lol) and you wanted to maintain your character/hours then ya. Diablo 3 added a “rebirth” option for seasons so people could play their same old toon and keep their name/hours.

But that doesn’t exist in gw2. If there was seasons for getting from 1-80 and then to some arbitrary mastery lvl then it would be sensible option. Heh, that would be actually kinda cool for wvw rank/seasons ;-)
