i see many people who force others to represent their guild. but it is a very good system in game. people have the freedom to represent any guild and join many guils. if you don’t like this system, just uninstall gw2 and don’t bother other people. people who don’t like this system must uninstall the game. i don’t understand why they force other people to represent their guild. why do they so want to restrict the freedom?? it is so annoying whenever i join a guild and whenever i represent other guild. you have no right to say and force other people to represent your guild at all. please shut up. why did i post this? because i played this game for 297 hours. those people who say “represent my guild” were so annoying.

Guild are within their right to have whatever rules and guidelines they want. If you think the rules are stupid and you don’t want to follow them, then that guild probably isn’t for you.

What this guy said. The game allows for a massive amount of flexibility regarding the guidelines guilds set for themselves and the expectations players set for themselves.

seriously? So you should not have to cater to guild rules, but they should have to cater to yours. Did your parents spoil you much?

It’s more about psychology than anything else . People don’t like being forced to do something even a phrasing can make a difference. If you phrase it “You must represent us at all times”( a forceful tone ) people are going to be less likely to do so than “Please represent us at all times” . ( a friendly tone )

So at what point did they force you to join these guilds?

There’s a lot of guilds that have rules that I don’t like. Mainly ones that require you to be on Teamspeak/Vent/some other chat program any time you’re in game. So I don’t join those guilds. I find ones with rules I do like instead.

don’t say that. there is no one who wants to see this sentence in gw2 “represent us at all times”. when i say something, people criticize me anyhow. and i can’t counter attack them because i am not native english speaker. but it is very good when people say something that i wanted to say instead of me. imao.

Guilds can do whatever they want I guess. However, they can suck it IMO. I will during guild activities but I have different guilds for different activities. Anyways it’s usually kitten guilds that try to force you to rep them. They are to stupid to set up real guild events so they don’t deserve people sticking around.

The reason they want you to represent them is because when you to the guild generates Influence.
This influence is used to purchase various upgrades for the guild, such as guild vault, guild armor and so forth.

So why should you be able to get the benefits from these things when you dont want to help the guild get them?

Yeah when I see that in guild recruit spam I go from “Probably not gonna bother” to “Will never consider”. It’s like telling someone on the first date that you’ll be checking her car’s mileage every day.

But it’s up to them I guess, and there’s not much they can do to force guilds to act other ways. Basically, don’t join.

Have you tried pointing out to them that you represent them while doing the thing which is the reason you joined them in the first place? (I assume you are, otherwise what the heck are you even in there for?)

I know I currently represent my guild full of friends until I reach WvWvW where I represent my WvWvW guild.

Activities (the things that give you influence) are based on a few things, Dungeons, Events, and PvP matches.

If you’ve joined a guild that specifically mentioned it was based around something like SPvP, then they shouldnt get mad when you represent a different guild while doing say, dungeons. If they do get mad, then it’s time to find a new guild that understands that if they want to niche themselves, then they’re only going to get people representing them when they’re fulfilling that niche activity.

If they force you then you should expect some kind of payment, but meh, that’s become a job then, where is the game?

Yeah, the main reason I don’t like joining guilds very often is that it always ends up being like a job and ruining the game for me. I just want to log on and do what I want, not what other people want. I get that all day at work. I don’t need to deal with that on my free time at home.

What I love about this game is that you can participate in dynamic events with random people that happen to be wandering by. It’s natural and exciting and always interesting.
When I join a guild, I end up grouping with the same 3 or 4 people everyday doing what everyone else wants. No thanks.
