I’ve been playing the warrior and having some fun, but I don’t know if I want to get him to 80 and have a lot of trouble in WvWvW, which I hear can be trouble for them in their state.

so I’ve been considering making a new profession, and was thinking between guardian, elementalist, and thief.

what I’d like to know is, which of these 3 perform most solidly in WvW (or other PvP aspects), whether it be roaming or zerging/defending, while also able to solo PvE content? because I’d like to work on map completions with this prof as well.

the warrior has had a pretty easy time of taking down veterans (even lasting against melee champions for quite a while until more people arrive lol), I’m curious if the other profs can do that. I know the guardian probably can, but how do ele and thief fare in PvE on their own?

I’m also interested in mobility and out-of-combat speed with easy upkeep (ie not needing to swap in a 3rd weapon set to use a swiftness skill, but more using a signet passive or what-have-you).

what’re your thoughts?

How do you like to play? They are all great in PvP in different ways.

Thieves are great roamers and small group skirmishers. I don’t think they are quite as good in a ZvZ fight, although some people may disagree. To me, a thief is at his best when someone is looking for him and there’s just enough confusion to make things interesting. Less useful when everyone is just swinging wildly. When I use to run a thief, I would team up with two other thieves or 1 thief and 1 mesmer and take out groups of 6-10 people.

Guardians make amazing tanks, but lack a reasonable ranged option. They are good at diving into a zerg, messing around a bit, and getting back to your side alive. However, Guardians add little or nothing to a siege.

I have played an elementalist the least of the three. D/D elementalists are also really good bunkers (probably not as good as a guardian) that rely on mobility to survive. Equip a staff and they can be helpful in a siege (both assaulting and defending).

edit:
Neither elementalists nor guardians have a good speed bursting sigil, but both have some access to swiftness. A guardian is intentionally one of the least mobile classes, thieves are intentionally the most mobile class. An elementalist is on the mobile side, but you have to swap attunements/use skills to keep up the speed.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

I love speed and mobility, so I think the thief might be fun to try. though I’m thinking I might have troubles initially by being squishy in PvE.

CC is pretty good too though.
I found with the warrior that, while maybe I didn’t choose the best weapon sets, I had little in the way of CC, and if an enemy was hard, I switched to rifle and kited it for awhile. big mobs would overwhelm sometimes though, perhaps that happens with all professions however.
