I agree rifle is for the most part useless apart from the animation its at least decent on engi. But on warrior aside from cosmetically being cool its worthless. Plus what I never could understand is why does a bow (and grenades) have a further range then rifle? Makes no sense at all, sure you can say a warrior rifle is meant to be in closer combat. Well then turn it into a shotgun! CM dungeon has them I’m sure it can be done, plus would be great fun!
At least the rifle is good on sniper warriors and bunker engies. There are far kittentier weapons, just look at the torch, only used by a single class in a specific build.
Rifle on Engi is meta, but only 2 of it’s skills are used in the dps rotation, skill 2/4 is purely situational and 1 is crap.
Rifle on warrior is just purely single target pew pew damage, it does more damage then a longbow but has less utility, featuring a criple, knockback and vurn burst.
I use the rifle on certain fractals that I require ranged on, like mai trin, jade maw and grawl.
On mai trin i often use the long distance knockback to knock her into the lightning field, one could argue that the inmobolise could be usefull, but it requires her to already have lost a bunch of stacks.
On grawl fractal since it’s single target and I don’t need the inmobolise i prefer the higher damage
And the same for jade, only need pew pew safe damage.
In dungeons however rifle is quite useless for warrior, but so is longbow as about 99% of the bosses are done in melee.
It was a good backup while it had the bleed, then why they took that of I will never understand. There was absolutely no balance needed to nerf the thing, it had already been nerfed to death.
This is an issue of skin vs identity…
Warrior and Engineer Rifle skills are pretty clear on what weapon they are
Warrior Rifle is simply a Rifle
Engineer Rifle is actually a Shotgun (hence the hip shooting and blunderbuss)
the problem is that the Rifle is one weapon and has no sub group.. this makes skins for the Rifle kind of a pain since both classes are technically split between two different weapons entirely and its pointless to add in a clone Rifle weapon just for one profession..
suffice to say its just up to the player to choose suitable skins for the proffesions..
having predator on a engineer using shotgun skills is just as stupid looking as having a standard blunderbuss skin on a Warrior Rifle
I would not be opposed to weapon sub groups though if Anet were willing to take the time for them

I can’t see them ever taking time to do something like this though
but personally I think they should definitely have more focus on Rifle skins that are designed around both Rifle and Shotgun styles to complement each Rifle style
Shortbow, Longbow and Hammer are also used by only two professions currently.
The Hammer is a good weapon, and meta in WvW, for both Guardian and Warrior. Longbow is meta for Warrior and Ranger. Shortbow is a bit less commonly used.
Rifle is a bad weapon for Warriors. Engineers only have two MH weapons so it’s not like they have much choice really, Rifle or Pistol.
But Engineers use kits a lot, so the Rifle is still not very prominent, and it’s not even used as a Rifle which inherited it’s name from the rifling in the barrel that had the point of hitting far away targets more accurately.
So really we only have one Rifle, the other is a Blunderbuss and that just got meshed together. And that makes the weapon seem very atypical.

Exactly. I feel rifle is fine as far as warriors are concerned. If they buff it, HELL YEAH why not. but it has a specific use(single target) and the bow is aoe.
