Im not kidding, i sent a report in about bugged drops mostly from champions and vets which in the nov 15th patch they said would always drop loot.

And the response was to check my system clock and make sure it matched the server clock, even down to the min/sec if possible.

So who knows i havent had a chance to try this yet but perhaps checking your clocks might be a good idea if you are one of the players getting really screwed by the RNG/DR for your loot drops.

However i have to think this is a complete BS answer, no game i have ever seen in the last 15 years at least would use the system clock for anything at all ever over there own server clock……..

But if any of you have had issues and the system clock was off and the issues went away after fixing the clock pleae post here im very interested to see if this does work.

I’ve killed many vets and champions without any loot, vets I can somewhat understand. But champions? I killed one last night solo and didn’t even get anything.

As for other loot, DR is again ~ forcing me to quit the game. Just did a fotm 10 daily, and got…1 molten core. Probably earned <1g for the entire run – simply amazing really, and not in a good way.

obviously, but you could use the server clock for that, i would think the RNG is being run on the server anyways, because if it isnt then holy security and exploit issues if the RNG is client side………..

So how do you check the server clock/your system clock? Is it the minimap clock and your desktop toolbar clock? If so my desktop clock is 7 sec faster than my ig clock.

ok, checked the in game clock against my phone and computer.

My phone uses the phone companies time, and it is 4sec faster than ingame server time.

My computer uses apple time server and is 5 seconds faster than ingame server time.

Is the time difference the reason for bad loot?

Last week, I purchased a new router and the front panel LEDs did not work. I called tech support, in India, and the tech told me to “taker the power cord and plug/unplug it as fast as you can for as many times as you can for 20 seconds”. I thought that’s was nuts. After I finished, the panel LEDs still didn’t work. The tech then told me “since the router works ok, you don’t really need the front panel LEDs anyway”. Really? I couldn’t believe he told me that.

My point being…..sounds like a bs answer to a problem they have no clue about.
Oh, and I returned the router to the store.

I heard GW2 tracks anything you do while using your computer and counts it towards your DR. So only turn on your computer when playing GW2 or you’ll be “hobbled” (but remember to let it cool off a bit before you shut it down again). If that don’t help, try pointing at it and cursing… Or eating a jam sandwich..

This is the solution to people who do their dailies and it is not being updated. Dailies monthlies are set up long before hand and the server sends out which to do, if your date time is out of sync for your region towards the server time you get the wrong information and you cannot advance. The customer care person did not know what they where talking about which is sad but happens. Send in a ticket so that they will hopefully improve the knowledge of the staff.

Edit: next monthly the WvWvW kills comes back yet again. I am not getting my monthly next month it seems unless they change this.

Most random numbers generated by computers, especially by games, are, in actuality, only psuedo-random.

For more information about that, check this out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudorandom_number_generator

But basically, the psuedo random number generators use a seed to generate a random number. The most efficient way to get a seed is just to use the computer’s system time (or a variation that still, in some way, uses the time).

It doesn’t make sense that any server-sided mechanic would use the client’s system time for pretty much anything, especially something as integral as the RND system. While it may be (a lot) more difficult to exploit than one may initially imagine, if someone is able to find a specific time slot wherein RND appears to be consistently higher, it could be used to exploit the system, i.e. get constantly high loot rates.

tl;dr Yes, computers use the system time to help generate random numbers. No, it (hopefully) isn’t your computer’s time – it’s the server’s time.

Also young karkas dropped 5 greens in a two hour farm and in a smaller farm the night before, 1 yellow and a few greens.

Who’s willing to research how different discrepancies between your system clock and server clock affect your loot?

I’m gonna assume that the maximal discrepancy is 30 minutes, ‘cause if some players are kittened by the RNG just because of their timezone, well, I’d be very disappoint.

I didn’t wanna buy into this, but I thought it was worth a try anyway. I had my system clock adjusted by a massive 30secs (haven’t sync’d it in a good few months) thanks to Atomic Clock Sync, I kicked on GW2 again and waited for the clocks to advance a minute. It seems that while mine is the ‘correct’ time, Anet’s time is behind by 5 seconds.

it is possible to use a clock in certain calculations.

when your clock is way off( and i mean way off like on 2000) certain certificates
wil not function either (gmail for instance wont work sometimes , certificate based wifi wont function, stuff like that)

but i never heard that a few seconds of even minutes will matter

But then again, no one (or maybe im wrong ) reverse engenered gw2 to check what calcs they do and how they do it

Hey everyone, I’m here to help clear up some of the confusion on this issue!

First, our apologies for the inaccurate response: your system clock does not affect your loot drops (sorry, conspiracy theorists). We’ve corrected this information for future responses.

If you’re not receiving loot from a champ/vet, it’s most likely because you’re not getting kill credit. We’re currently working on some improvements to this so that it will be easier to get rewards when you kill a creature.

Thank you for bringing this up!

So how exactly does kill credit work?

Scenerio:
I solo’d a champion spider and received no loot at all.
This reason for no loot is no kill credit?

Hope that also includes the situation for solo kills, and not just partial credit kills.

I can see how a contribution in a group might not be high enough to pass the threshold for a reward.

However, I’ve killed veterans in many zones which dropped nothing at all, even when I killed them without any other players around me.

Oh I just had to respond to this. Killed the Blood Witch yesterday in Kessex Hills map along with three other players. I tagged the Boss first and we beat him/her down. All I got was a soiled rag for my trouble. Killed all the Vets inside the cave, got a big repair bill but no loot. The barracudas dropped better loot than the boss. Nonsense.

Did many events yesterday including the Behemoth Boss in God’s Lost Swamp twice. best reward out of it? Copper dubloon, everything else was blue armor/weapon that I couldn’t even use for my character. Thanks. (Yes that is sarcasm).

I’m going to try to keep this as respectful as possible.
There is something obviously wrong with the coding in this game. There are literally hundreds of posts about terrible loot drops, all which started with the November 15, 2012 patch, so I suggest Anet look there first. Something is rotten in GW2 and it’s not the players. When you have a consensus of hundreds, if not thousands of customers complaining about a specific issue and you (Anet) chalk it up to not getting kill credit, RNG or bad luck then it seems something is quite wrong here.
